Art meets industry at Brabant Cultural Capital 2018 Material Sense is working hard on a ‘Wunderkammer’ or miracle room, in consignment for Brabant Cultural Capital 2018. An international jury will decide whether Brabant will become the 2018 Cultural Capital this September. “We were approached to come up with images for the future of bio-based materials,” says Simone de Waart. The theme was chosen because the current scarcity of oil-based materials has caused a marked growth in the palette of bio-based materials industry and science has to work with. “These new materials will delight and even tease your senses,” Simone continues. Apart from offering an experience of the materials themselves, Material Sense works with BioArt Laboratories in Eindhoven, and shows examples of what cooperation between artists, scientists and business can do. Think of things like a morphed natural world or a synthesis between biology and art. A world that can be transformed, degraded and then revalued after a period of time. All this is visualized in installations, objects, film and materials. The Wunderkammer is definitely not only meant for the inspection of a jury: the general public is very welcome to see the future of bio-based materialization for themselves during Dutch Design Week 2013.
