The heart to heal, the strength to grow.

Our spirit is strong, it thrives as we embrace those who we must always care for.

Our journey has been long and we will continue to flourish as we open our hearts to those who walk with us. Always

Welcome

The ride that matters

Mater Foundation is excited to bring you the 2024 Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle for Cancer. We’re thrilled to continue the legacy of the iconic B2GC event.

B2GC holds a special place in the hearts of cyclists across SEQ. With over 5,000 participants gearing up to take on the iconic course, this event remains one of the most anticipated on the cycling calendar. Who wouldn’t love the dream roll through Brisbane’s traffic-free South East Busway?

Let me share some important information with you. While your entry fee covers the cost for us to organise this epic event, it’s the funds you raise that support world-class cancer research at Mater. By fundraising as part of your ride, you’re improving outcomes for the 444 people diagnosed with cancer in Australia each day*. And, offering another level of commitment—you can ride in honour of someone close to you battling cancer.

Your dedicated involvement and the incredible support from our sponsors, partners, and volunteers is what keep this event thriving. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, have a tremendous impact and we are truly grateful for your support.

Whether you’re riding for the sheer joy of cycling, or in honour of a loved one, we wish you a safe and exhilarating ride. Make sure you look out for each other on the course and enjoy every moment.

See you at the start line!

AllSports Physiotherapy and

My FootDr are proudly part of Healthia—your local healthcare leader—and I am excited to share these essential tips for your preparation and training.

As a physiotherapist, I know how important it is to make it to the start line injury-free. Here’s how you can take care of your body before the event.

Personalised training plan

To prevent overuse injuries, avoid overtraining. Tailor your training plan to consider your current fitness level, available training time, other forms of exercise, and your event goals.

Stretching vs strengthening

Rather than focusing on static stretching, combine strength training sessions with endurance training to help improve cycling performance and guard against overuse injuries.

Recovery

Effective recovery is crucial for training consistently and minimising injury risk.

Key recovery components include:

• Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours per night.

• Nutrition/Hydration: Follow Sports Dietitians Australia’s recovery goals—refuel, repair, rehydrate, and revitalise.

Other important factors for recovery include:

• Active recovery: 10 minutes of low-intensity cardio or movement post-training can reduce the severity of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

• Remedial massage: Help reduce muscle soreness, fatigue, and inflammation.

• Compression garments: These can help minimise muscle soreness and fatigue.

• Cold therapies: Immersion in pools or ice baths can decrease muscle soreness and fatigue. Try different recovery options to see what suits your body the best.

Bike-fit and biomechanical assessment

A professional assessment of your body’s capabilities is essential to ensure your training program is suitable. Plus, a professional bike fit based on your body and riding style can optimise your cycling posture, efficient and power while reducing the risk of injury. By following these tips, you can prepare effectively for the Brisbane to Gold Coast ride and reduce your risk of injury, ensuring you reach the start line in top condition.

Keeping safe

On-course safety

The Brisbane to Gold Coast event uses public roads that in some points are open to general public throughout the ride. Therefore, all participants must abide by the road rules, obeying police, traffic marshals’ and volunteers’ directions.

• Ensure your bike is serviced and in good working order prior to the start

• Seed yourself in the correct starting wave and ride to your own ability

• Listen for announcements and follow directions from event officials

• Only approach towards the start line tape when directed by officials

• Keep LEFT at all times unless passing to allow faster riders to pass safely. Road rules still apply at all times

• Marshals will also be around on the day to direct you to the correct assembly zone

• Use hand signals if turning left, right or stopping

• If you need to stop, please move to the left and be mindful of other participants riding behind you

Please follow the Queensland road rules, unless otherwise directed by Queensland Police. You can read the full Queensland road rules here.

We want the event to be fun and safe for everybody. Please ensure you follow the below safety procedures:

• The use of headphones or other listening devices is strictly forbidden

• First aid will be located on-course, and at the start line and Finishers’ Village

• The use of mobile phones while cycling is strictly forbidden, any riders caught using their mobile phone while cycling can expect a hefty fine from police

• Mobile bike mechanics will be roaming along the course and assist where available, but all riders should be prepared to be self-sufficient throughout the ride

• On course sweeper vehicle/s will patrol the course, any riders collected will be ferried to the next rest stop when able to do so

• Refer to the key contact phone numbers that are provided on the back of your ride plate, if you require a mechanic, first aid or emergency services

What to wear

Importance of having good kit for the ride (and what each piece does!)

Hey everyone, my name is Lizzi and I am the founder of NeoPro Cycling— and am proud to say we are the event clothing sponsor for B2GC for 2024. In this guide we will run through the importance of wearing good kit, and what each piece does. Riding 100km is both a physical challenge and an exciting experience. Whether you are a weekend warrior or a racer, the right gear can make or break your ride.

Bib shorts

Probably the most critical piece of kit, bib shorts are designed to provide maximum comfort and support during your rides. The integrated chamois, or padding, helps to alleviate pressure, which is essential for preventing discomfort. The bib brace ensures that the shorts stay securely in place without digging into your skin. This stability allows for greater freedom of movement and helps maintain proper posture, which is vital for endurance rides.

Cycling jersey

A cycling jersey is more than just fashion. Made from technical fabrics, they wick moisture away from your body, keeping you dry and comfortable. The snug fit reduces wind resistance, cutting through the wind better. Rear pockets offer storage for essentials like energy gels and a phone, making sure you have everything you need within easy reach. NeoPro Jerseys have UPF40 sun protection as standard, protecting you from that harsh Queensland sun.

The understated hero, an undershirt plays a crucial role in managing moisture and regulating body temperature. It acts as a base layer that wicks sweat away from your skin, helping to keep you dry. In cooler weather, it provides an extra layer of insulation, while in warmer conditions, it aids in ventilation and cooling. Weirdly enough, it keeps you warmer on cold days and cooler on hot days!

Arm warmers

Arm warmers offer additional warmth when the weather is a bit colder. Super easy to remove and throw in a jersey pocket if it gets too warm, providing flexibility as conditions change. They also offer sun protection, and a perfect fit for the early morning start on the B2GC route!

Neoprocycling.com.au has all of these on our website, and we are happy to help with any questions you have. All our kit is sent from our warehouse in Brisbane.

Our kits are designed and tested in our home Brisbane, Australia and ridden all over the world! We are so proud!

Thank you for being a part of the ride that matters, B2GC 2024!

Your dedication and support mean the world to people who have experienced cancer, like me, and to all those who have been touched by it.

The ride is long, but when you start to think about what other people have gone through with cancer and their treatment journey, it doesn’t feel that difficult.

Your efforts raise not only funds, but also spirits, proving we are never alone in this battle. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I can’t wait to see you at the start line.
