So much has happened since we last gathered in Uluru in November 2019 to celebrate the achievements of the best our industry has to offer through the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

Bushfires and the health and economic shocks of COVID-19 have caused. They are still causing stress and anxiety for so many, not only in the Master Builders membership but the industry, supply chain and of course the community. But we as master builders are resilient. We are committed to working together, to supporting each other to see our way through this together. That is why the strength of our federated organisation is so critical at times like these. Despite the crisis, the awards are about being positive, and it’s a celebration of all that the building and construction industry can achieve. Like the Master Builders community itself, these awards are special. They are unique. No other national awards recognise the skill and prowess of building construction contractors in all three sectors of the industry. Master Builders Australia’s National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards celebrates the achievements and the projects of small, medium and large businesses in the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors. From the most affordable display home to the most complex commercial, industrial, or civil infrastructure construction project, these awards showcase the skill, innovation and commitment to quality and continuous improvement. This is what makes winners of these awards exemplars of our industry. This years’ finalists and winners have overcome substantial challenges to deliver outstanding projects for their clients, underlining in the process, the high standards of professionalism that are such a feature of Master Builders’ membership. We commend our Member Associations, who with the exception of Victoria, which is totally understandable, were able to proceed with their own awards to enable the national awards to go ahead. Congratulations to the winners. We know how tough things will be over the next few years, so awards such as these are all the more important in a competitive environment. Bellevarde Constructions HOUSE TAURUS NEW SOUTH WALES This project involved an extremely difficult build on a battle-axe block spanning from an upper street level down to the Sydney Harbour foreshore. Manual handling and construction activities required the use of water barges, tower cranes, and complex machinery to create the base foundations. The overall project highlighted the skills and expertise of the builder.

Dean Scurrah Building TASMANIA The Builder has overcome a range of access and construction challenges to add a finely detailed extension to the rear of an existing Federation Home, including a new Tasmanian Oak Timber cathedral ceiling in the living room, and a curved vault ceiling in the reading room. Fabricated from 350 tonnes of locally produced structural mild steel and 170 tonnes of high grade imported Duplex 2205 stainless steel, the bridge comprises four segments with a maximum span of 50 metres.

NOA BY THE BEACH PROJECT Little Cove Noosa Noa By The Beach was truly an accomplishment for all parties involved. With three levels, six bedrooms, four bathrooms, media room, lounge, pool, outdoor bbq/fire and entertaining area, this home was designed to cater for high end luxury living. Once the project commenced it was full steam ahead for 7 months. A mixture of timbers, concrete, steel and alloy were incorporated into the design and contribute to the feel of the home. Original bridge beams from Tasmanian wharfs dating back to pre World War were a must keep, as were the original recycled Oregon rafters used throughout the main level. The house is situated in Little Cove, a stones throw from the famous beaches and backing onto the lush Noosa national park. The detailed custom finishes of oak timber seating, floating benches and stairs, curved concrete stairs, custom alloy pivot doors on entry and custom steel add bespoke touches to the space.
