Dear MassJCL,
This past year has been quite unpredictable. We sadly could not hold state convention, and will not be personally attending Nationals in Richmond, VA, as was planned. It's sad that we have to send off our seniors like this. However, many memories were still made this year. I hope this scrapbook serves as a reminder of those times. We shall see what the future holds, but I hope that we will be able gather again soon. Sara Rhouate

THEME EXPLANATION
A journey to Rebirth The Underworld is often viewed negatively because it's home to the dead, and the fiery depths of Tartarus. However, it is also a place of rebirth. In the Aeneid, Anchises describes how spirits destined with a second body gather around the River Lethe to drink its water and forget their past life. While MassJCL doesn't forget it's history, it's reborn every year. Each year, we welcome a new executive board, new members, and new friendships. Follow us as this year's MassJCL spirit journeys from the Underworld, and through the Gates of Ivory and Horn, until it reaches Olympus. II

CLASSICS DAY DECEMBER 5, 2019
Boston University Classics Day is an annual event planned by the 1st Vice President, Lia Van Der Linde. Every December, students from all over the state take a field trip to Boston University to attend workshops presented by a variety of professors, scholars, and SCLers. Before being sent off, schools partake in a skit contest based on the yearly theme:
Greek and Roman Calendars

This year we welcomed...
Michelle Wu
... to give a workshop titled "The Road from NJCL President to Boston City Councilor"
Michelle Wu is a Boston City Councilor-at-large, and was it's first woman of color president. From 2002-2003, she served as NJCL President during her time in ILJCL. In her workshop, she discussed how the Classics and being a National board member influenced her career in politics before holding a Q&A session. We cannot thank her enough for taking time out of her busy schedule to speak to us. Michelle Wu
