For the past 100 years, masjid Haji Yusoff has served the community by holding on to the simple philosophy of “Volunteerism (semangat Gotong-Royong)”. " the spirit of Volunteerism" is a book written to mark 100 years since masjid Haji Yusoff's inception. through carefully curated photographs and reflections, readers can appreciate the many ways the mosque's volunteers have contributed to its growth and transformation this past century. this book documents the rich history of the mosque and how its volunteers have made it a valuable asset to the community.
i had the privilege of witnessing this transformation personally. Back then, i was known as “ tabong Boy”, as i was responsible for collecting donations during mosque activities. i was approached by an ex-mosque secretary, tuan Haji tunnasir to join the mosque management Board as he feels that there should be someone from pewakaf to be active at the mosque. i n recent years, the mosque has carried out upgrading works like installation of a lift for congregants with mobility issues, as well as changing the carpets and installing air-conditioners. the mosque has also initiated religious classes for autistic children, under our sYAms programme. We established a weekly Quran and Fiqh class for i ndonesian maids to keep them positively occupied in weekends. the ability of the mosque to thrive for 100 years would not have been possible without the kind support from donors, volunteers and kindhearted congregants. We hope that you will enjoy the publication we have put together to celebrate the journey of our mosque. may Allah ease our affairs to continue improving the activities and services to the community. Amin.

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahiim, Alhamdulillah, All Praise to Allah SWT, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
the year 2021 is a special year for the masjid Haji Yusoff (mHY) Family, in singapore with Haji Yusoff mosque celebrating its 100th anniversary of its existence. to commemorate our 100 years of religious and community services in singapore, several "Hamba Allah" have produced this commemorative e-book, the spirit of Volunteerism.
Upon being tasked with this publication during mHY Retreat in December 2017, we were initially daunted by the sheer scale of this project. Although the concept and theme ( the Past, the Present, the Future, capturing the past, relating the present and our hopes for the future), were crystalized during the December 2017 Retreat, other questions came to mind:

• What is the purpose of the e-book and who is the target audience?
We aimed for this book to be informative and insightful about our volunteers (who have served, are still serving and will continue to serve mHY insya Allah) but yet thought-provoking, reflective and educational for all who have walked/will be walking this journey with us. the launching of this e-book and the 100-year mHY celebration was delayed until nov 2022 due to the CoViD-19 safe management measures imposed on all the religious organization. We are now proud to present to you the e-book: the spirit of Volunteerism for your reading pleasure and reflection. may Allah s.w.t bless all those who have contributed to the successful publication of this this e-book.

the majlis Ugama islam singapura (muis), also known as the islamic Religious Council of singapore, was established as a statutory body in 1968, when the Administration of muslim law Act (AmlA) came into effect. Under AmlA, muis is to advise the President of singapore on all matters relating to islam in singapore.
Prior to that, mosques in singapore had always been self-sustaining, independent and relied on the com munity to manage their daily affairs.

masjid Haji Yusoff is one of the Wakaf mosques in singapore that have been entrusted to two particu lar individuals ; shaik omar bin Abdullah Bamadhaj and Haji mohamad eusofe. this was to manage and handle all matters pertaining to masjid Haji Yusoff. this was way before mUis was established as the of ficial caretaker of all mosques.
Committees were created, management members were selected to further improve on the daily activ ities of masjid Haji Yusoff. most of these were done on a voluntary basis as to showcase the kampung spirits or better know as “gotong-royong” . this was the foundation of volunteerism that has prevailed till this day.

Haji tunnasir's sweetest memories as a volunteer was raising funds to rebuild the madrasah, adjacent to Haji Yusoff mosque (now known as madrasah AlArabiah Al-islamiah). He was only 14-15 years old then.
His hardest challenges included having to review and make sacrifices with regard to the redevelopment plans for the mosque when the government wanted to expand Upper serangoon Road in the 1990s. He also had to oversee succession plans and find individuals who were not only capable but also willing to be part of the new management board of Haji Yusoff mosque.
the biggest project that he had handled thus far was overseeing the redevelopment of Haji Yusoff mosque. mUis officials had informed the management board then that Haji Yusoff had to be redeveloped due to its old structure.
A piece of advice he has for the younger generation is to cultivate a willingness to help others with a sincere heart (ikhlas) regardless of background. this will help make the mosque a more prosperous place for all.
Haji Tunnasir noted several differences in the administration of mosque activities in the past compared to the present. Back in the old days, the mosque was fully run by volunteers. There were no staff except for the Imam and the Bilal. The spirit of vounteerism was very much alive back then.
He shared that one unique aspect about Haji Yusoff Mosque back in the olden days, was the kind of congregation it drew. Residents from nearby kampongs would actively participate in and enliven the mosque activities (e.g., the daily kuliah).
Haji Tunnasir had learned many valuable lessons from his journey as a volunteer. For example, when organising an event, he learnt that one should be prepared for all types of outcomes (be it good or bad). As people come to the mosque for various reasons, one cannot expect every Jemaah to have the same mindset. In addition, a volunteer should always accept feedback with positivity as he or she is carrying the image of the mosque. Volunteers should also be sincere and willing to sacrifice their time and effort to make the mosque a better place for all.

1969
Haji Tunnasir began a fundraising project to rebuild Madrasah AlArabiah Al Islamiah, which was first built in 1943, adjacent to Haji Yusoff Mosque. Haji Tunnasir, along with his secondary school friend from Sang Nila Utama Secondary School, Minhad, would often meet at Bus Stop STC 18B (in front of the old Yio Chu Kang post office). One day while waiting for the Friday (Jumaat) prayer to commence, an announcement was made by the Mosque representatives on the fundraising initiatives to rebuild Madrasah Al-Arabiah Al Islamiah. Feeling inspired and motivated, both of them went to Haji Yusoff Mosque after school and decided to volunteer for the fundraising project. They distributed donation request forms to the community and sought donations from companies as well as Malay Muslim organisations.
1973
Haji Yusoff Mosque carried out fundraising initiative for projects to upgrade the mosque facilities (i.e. offices, fixing of the 2 domes due to leakages and a new modern toilet). Haji Tunnasir heard this fundraising effort from an Islamic lecture (kuliah) that he attended and promptly registered himself as a volunteer to collect funds on behalf of Haji Yusoff Mosque. Various methods of collection were employed and the construction began a few months later.
1978 Due to the redevelopment of Singapore, residents staying at Jalan Serangoon Kechil were relocated to Lorong Liew Lian. Several of the residents formed up a committee for the welfare of the residents. They held gatherings and events, and collected funds to be given to the mosque.
1980
Haji Yusoff Mosque held its inaugural meeting to appoint the next management board members for the mosque.
Chairman – Cikgu Rafiee Abdul Karim
Vice-chairman – Haji Ismail Alang
Secretary – Haji Abdul Sharip Mahmud
Vice-Secretary – Haji Tunnasir Haji Abdul Hamid
Treasurer – Haji Yusoff Puteh
Vice-treasurer – Encik Kassim Hassan
Haji Tunnasir was tasked to review the processes for adult classes and the madrasah. His first initiative was to raise the honorarium given to the lecturers/speakers and lower the cost of fees for students, so as to attract more people to study in the mosque. He also provided light snacks for the students during recess. These tactics proved to be effective. The mosque soon organised more classes to accommodate the increasing students enrolment.
1st April 1981
A meeting was held by MUIS president, Mr. Haji Ismail Said, to appoint the committee members for a fundraising project to build a mosque in the vicinity of Hougang. The mosque was later named Masjid En Naeem.
Advisor – Haji Ahmad Ibrahim
Chairman – Haji Salleh Nordin
Vice-chairman – Haji Yusoff Ahmad
Secretary – Saini Salleh
Vice-Secretary – Halim Amin
Treasurer – Encik Abdul Qudoos
Vice-treasurer – Encik Mawar Razi

A fire broke out in the compounds of Madrasah Al - Arabiah. Based on the report from the police and fire-fighting agency, the fire started from an electrical trip at the Bilal’s house that was adjoined to the Madrasah building. The fire started in the wee hours, before Fajr’s prayer. Unfortunately, donation monies for the mosque and zakat were burned inside the Bilal's house.
1989
A biennial grand meeting took place in Haji Yusoff Mosque for the reappointment of management roles.

1991
A biennial grand meeting took place in Haji Yusoff Mosque for the reappointment of management roles. The new management had to deal with a new series of challenges. Sacrifices pertaining to the redevelopment of the mosque had to be made, as the government wanted to expand Upper Serangoon Road. The wakaf land size was reduced to make way for the expansion. The management was tasked to raise funds for the major construction (amounting to $2.1 million dollars) and also plan for the upcoming mosque. Some of the fundraising efforts included distributing donation forms to the public and corporations, establishing a specialised committee to collect donations at events and mass gatherings held by the mosque, chestbox collection at all mosques in Singapore, Pusara Aman and Abadi during Eid, as well as selling of coupons with an incentive, for the seller.

Puan Fatimah's sweetest memories as a volunteer included the first big event that she spearheaded - maulid nabi. Usually, the event consisted of Khatamul Quran and Berzanji. on that year (1984), they also had a maulid Walk around serangoon. Another memory was when the Berzanji group of Haji Yusoff mosque was invited to perform at the national radio broadcasting company hosted by salleh Ahmad and AmP; sanep Ahmad.
Her hardest challenges included the time when she had to go door to door in serangoon with other volunteers to raise funds to upkeep the mosque activities. in 1964, on her way back to the mosque via bus after a maulid nabi event at the Padang, her journey was impeded by the scuffling that was happening outside the bus. this was the year in which racial riot had broken out between the malays and Chinese.
Puan Fatimah was motivated to volunteer at the mosque after being advised by her mother-in-law, who also used to work at the mosque in the old days. Her mother-in-law encouraged her to spend time at the mosque and reap benefits instead of engaging in potentially wasteful activities. she was also encouraged by the values displayed by her seniors - honesty, sincerity and diligence in carrying out the tasks that were given.
Puan Fatimah's volunteering journey included being a board member of Haji Yusoff Mosque. Some life lessons she gained during her time included becoming more independent. She also gained the confidence to speak up and raise her concerns about things she was doubtful of - something she would be hesitant to do in the past.
Puan Fatimah's aspirations for Haji Yusoff Mosque included increasing the honing and sharing of Islamic knowledge with the community. This would make the mosque a more prosperous place.
Puan Fatimah is still volunteering with the mosque. Living close to the mosque is one of the things that incentivised her to continue volunteering. She also view the current volunteers and the management board to be very friendly and welcoming.

UstA z D R m o HA mm AD HAnnAn Bin HA ssAn
The mosque was not just my playing ground as a young boy, but more importantly, a field to sow a seed of a conscientious heart, a heart connected not just to a building, but to the community.
I was born by a mosque, brought up by a mosque, and spent my formative years by a mosque. As a young boy, it was not unexpected to be scolded for our mischievousness at times. Nonetheless, the mosque leaders knew what to do with us, and provided us with all the opportunities to serve the community and the neighborhood beyond the mosque. Those were formative foundational years that continue to shape my consciousness till today.

While I spent my formative years at the Hajjah Fatimah Mosque at Beach Road, it wasn’t the only mosque that I was attached to. One of the mosques I used to frequent during those years was Haji Yusoff Mosque at Hillside Drive. I must admit that one of the pulling factors was the Mamak Mee Goreng Kerang at one of the streets nearby the mosque. A young boy would not be attracted to something “spiritual” and intangible at first. It’s really a concrete stage of one’s development.
My mother, Ustazah Kalthom Marwan, who taught at Haji Yusoff Mosque since the 70s and throughout the 80s, used to bring me with her to the mosque. I recalled being asked to recite the Qur’an at a Maulid celebration unprepared. And it was also at this mosque I made my inaugural proper appearance as a qari at an event. I was already delivering ceramah (religious talks) as a young boy at various occasions, but never imagined that I would be a qari
My connection with Haji Yusoff mosque grew fonder when I later joined Madrasah al-Arabiah that was located at the mosque annex, as a full time student in the 70s. Now, my connection with the mosque wasn’t only weekly, but daily.
Haji Yusoff Mosque became another playing ground for me, and obviously allowed me to frequent Mee Goreng Kerang Mamak more frequently.
What attracted my young soul to the mosques were not the buildings, although the mee Mamak and Mee Rebus did help, but the people who touched my heart. This was true at Hajjah Fatimah Mosque, Haji Yusoff Mosque, and other mosques too. The people who welcomed me, notwithstanding my mischievousness, and nurtured potentials in us, were the reasons for the attachment.
For indeed, Prophet Muhammad has said, "Seven are (the persons) whom Allah will give protection with His Shade (of His Throne) on the Day when there will be no shade except His Shade (i.e., on the Day of Resurrection), and they are: A just ruler; a youth who grew up with the worship of Allah; a person whose heart is attached to the mosque; two persons who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a man whom a beautiful and high ranking woman seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying), ‘I fear Allah’; a person who gives a charity and conceals it (to such an extent) that the left hand might not know what the right has given; and a person who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes well up." (Bukhari and Muslim).
As Haji Yusoff Mosque celebrates its Centennial Anniversary, I trust it will continue to welcome young souls, as it did to me, and offer opportunities for all to be connected not just to the Divine but to all His creation until the next centennial anniversary and beyond inshaAllah.

My husband, the late Haji Abdeen Mohamed Hashim, had served at Masjid Haji Yusoff in the mid 70s. He was the Postmaster at Serangoon Gardens Post Office at that time and was approached by the Imam of the Masjid to serve as a member in the Masjid Committee. As I recall, the Masjid was forming its maiden committee to serve the needs of Muslims in the area, managing the operations and programmes offered at the masjid and overseeing the overall maintenance.

He was appointed treasurer of the committee in 1975 which he served till 1978. As treasurer of the Masjid’s committee, Hashim was involved in several fundraising projects for the maintenance and upgrading works at the masjid. One of the major projects he undertook was the upgrading of the toilets and ablution area. If my memory serves me right, the committee held a food carnival to raise funds for the toilets and ablution area upgrading project. Hashim also successfully engaged a contractor who sponsored the labour cost for the upgrading works for the toilet and ablution area. The masjid committee was very successful in their efforts to enhance the facilities at the masjid and to offer programmes that benefitted the Muslim community as a whole.

Selamat Bin Madon, also known as Ustaz Samat or Ustaz Madon was a Bilal at Haji Yusoff Mosque from 1950-1985. He also worked as a Quranic Teacher in Madrasah Al-Arabiah. There was a house built next to the mosque and madrasah, where Ustaz Samat lived with his family during the period he worked for the mosque. Due to his melodious voice, he was selected to record the Azan (call to prayer) and Takbir (recitation during Eid) at the local radio station, Radio and Television Singapore (RTS).

One of his cherished memories was when the nearby marketplace would leave fruits and groceries as donation outside of his house and he would go around Kampung Sirat and neighbouring areas to distribute them.

Madrasah Al-Arabiah, founded in 1930s, was once located beside Haji Yusoff Mosque. It provided Islamic education for children in the community. At one point in time, the Madrasah boasted almost 200 students in a single cohort, showing how important it was for Islamic education to the community. A number of the staff who taught and worked at the Madrasah were also part of the mosque committee. These included Ustaz Osman Wathik, Ustaz Selamat Madon, Ustaz Abdul Samad Bin Awang and many more. Unfortunately in 1981, a fire broke out due to faulty electrical wiring. The Madrasah was burnt down. After the fire, only 17 students returned, with lessons resuming within Haji Yusoff Mosque. Later in the 1980s the madrasah moved to a new site in Kembangan, along Jalan Selamat. The madrasah moved several times in 2005 at Lorong 13 Geylang and in 2009, it was finally relocated at Toa Payoh.

in 1984, Masjid Haji Yusoff was graced by S. Dhanabalan who was the then Minister of Culture. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and received the honarary title of Darjah Utama Temasek (First Class) which has only been bestowed upon 12 individuals in Singapore. The late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew even identified Mr. S.Dhanabalan as an in dividual worthy to take over as his successor but later on added that the 76% ethnic Chinese electorate were not yet ready for a prime minister of Indian ethnicity. The visitation was done to build a strong foundation for communication between the the government and the Mus lim community around Haji Yusoff Mosque.

Despite that, the mosque committee was able to get hold of the mufti of Johor to give a talk to enrich and enlighten the masses at Hj Yusoff mosque. the congre gants flocked to the mosque to listen to the lecture by the esteemed mufti.

Marhaban was a group formed by the ladies wing of Haji Yusoff Mosque
Marhaban, derived from an Arabic word, carries a meaning of welcoming others in a ceremony or an event. In traditional Islamic culture, the term marhaban refers to a form of Islamic entertainment that is associated with the praises to our beloved prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is also a poetic biography of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on his birth as its main theme.

This tradition has been uplifted by the traditional Islamic community as a form of communication that contains many kinds of information, such as history of prophets, social issues, and the blessings behind the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

t H e P ill AR o F t H e PR o GRA mmes mADRA s AHislam has always treasured knowledge since its inception. in fact the first verse in the Quran that was revealed to mankind was an instruction to read. With that notion in mind, one of the mosque’s roles is to spread knowledge. this has been true since the 6th century when the first mosque which Prophet muhammad s.A.W built in madinah was used to teach the community on islam, a tradition that has continued until to day.
education

begins at a young age, and the mosque used to provide education for the children in a programme called “madrasah”. i t is a part-time education programme that aims at teaching children religious education. there used to be a full-time madrasah adjacent to the mosque com pound called “madrasah Arabiah” up until an accident which caused the madrasah to burn down, forcing it to re locate elsewhere.

AlHA m DU lill AH
(Ke ARAH Pen G im ARAHAn mA s J i D)

Pertama: mendapat Petunjuk Dari Allah Kedua: Di Persaksikan Keimanannya
Daripada Abi Said Al-Khudri R.A bahawa Rasullullah SAW bersabda:

Ketiga: Disediakan tempat Di Dalam syurga
Daripada Abu Hurairah R.A, Rasulullah SAW bersabda:
Amin.

Korban, or “sacrifice”, is an annual affair that is celebrated during the Aidiladha period in the 12th month of the islamic lunar year, known as zulhijjah. on this holy month, millions of worshippers around the world congregate in the holy city of mecca to perform their obligatory pilgrimage (Hajj). i n ad dition, during this month, muslims emulate the willingness of Prophet i brahim A.s. to sacrifice his son, Prophet ismail A.s for the sake of Allah sW t. the moment when Prophet i brahim was about to carry out the command, Allah sW t replaced Prophet ismail A.s. with a sheep. this sacrifice is marked by muslims during Aidiladha when we sacrifice an animal and a portion of the meat is distributed to the poor in the community.

From the beginning, Korban operations have been managed by a specific group called Manpower and Korban Action Unit (UTMPK). UTMPK is tasked to perform and coordinate activities before, during and after Korban. The team is normally comprised of Welfare Department members with some key volunteers. Meat distribution is also done for needy families.

Volunteers were briefed on the procedures concerning the Korban. Preparations were also made to ensure safety and humane treatment of the sheeps involved.

MHY Welfare Department was established by Dr Halid Abdullah on 14th Mar 2002 with 8 dedicated volunteers, ever ready to serve the mosque and community. Now, the Welfare Department has a total of 16 members, focusing on developing the welfare of volunteers and the community, in general.

The Welfare Department has gradually evolved with having new members and conducting different activities. For some events where Welfare Department spearhead, there is collaboration with internal departments like Education, Youth, Dakwah, Maintenance and even with our Qaryah Majlis Amal Jariah Hougang St 91 (MAJH), to maximise resources and capitalize on each other's unique strong points.

This includes helping the needy, upskilling our volunteers through in-house courses, talks, health awareness, interest groups and other activities that benefit both the members and community.
Fidyah is disbursed to selected needy families and Welfare funds are used to provide bursaries for high achieving madrasah students who are needy, including those from the national madrasahs.
Moving forward, to nurture our members for a better tomorrow, one intiative will be to “Train our own trainers” to equip volunteers to have the chance to become great leaders.

We were able to see positive change when the students showed their eagerness in answering quizzes during lessons, and were able to explain in points what they have learnt at the end of the day. i n addition, the mosque received positive feedback from the parents too.
At the same time, we received feedback from some parents that they were unable to find an islamic centre which is able to provide islamic lessons for students with special needs (Au tism). that was when we started the aliVe Holiday Programme for students with special needs (Autism) in 2014. We officially launched sYAmil, aliVe Class for students with special needs (Autism) the following year and rebranded it to sYAms in 2017. Amal Jariyah Hougang (mAJH) has been serving the Muslim community for 22 years in Hougang Street 91 since its establishment. The MAJH Qaryah was formed to provide community services to the residents of Hougang Street 91, to get to know each other and bring them together through the Maulid Syarahan and community programmes. It is a place where everyone can meet and participate in mosque activities and programmes organised by the Residents Committees (RC).
mAJH was formally established in 1999. mr Haji nordin and m r sulai man were residents staying at Hougang street 91. in 1998, they invited m r Haji sam’an bin sainee, m r Haji muhammad Bakri bin Hamsi and mr zulkifli Bin en jom to attend a meeting in forming a Qaryah group in Hougang street 91. At the meeting, mr Haji muhammad Bakri Bin Hamsi proposed to begin with the appointment of members of the Committee as a first step. there were ap proximately 27 blocks in Hougang street 91 and each block could send their representatives to the group. these representatives would become the mem bers of the committee. A year later, the mAJH was formally established and the first mAJH meeting was held.

Haji sam'an bin sainee became the Chairman of mAJH. He is currently the Chairman of mAJH today. m r. Zulkifli Enjom, Chairman of the RC at Hougang Street 91, was appointed as MAJH's Secretary. He too has continued to serve in his post until today. mr. Haji sam'an bin sainee is also a Qur’anic teacher at Taman Baiyati. Taman Baiyati was started and set up by Mr Zulkifli Bin Enjom and his wife, Mrs Nasbiah Binte Mahmood, offering the Qur’anic classes for children living at Hougang Street 91. Its motto is “Kalam Wahyu Mewangi”, envisioning that the Al-Qur'an will continue to be taught and passed down to future generations. Taman Baiyati had an increase in student enrolment in 2004, the same year when Mr Zulkifli Bin Enjom was deployed to Brunei. As such, half of the students were directed to Mr Haji Sam'an Bin Sainee, who assisted to teach them. Eventually, Taman Baiyati was led and taught by Mr Haji Sam'an Sainee. After some time, Mr Haji Sam'an bin Sainee changed the name of Taman Baiyati to the Taman Baiyati Annor. The word Annor was derived from last two letters of his name Sam'an and the first three letters of his wife's name Norridah. Many volunteers from the area lend their support in attending MAJH events. MAJH youths, who are also students of Taman Baiyati Annor, help out in the planning and preparation of events. This presents the best opportunity to meet the parents of the Taman Baiyati Annor students, and encourage them to join MAJH and participate in its programmes. It also helps to further strengthen the relationship with the residents of Hougang Street 91.
In addition to Qur’anic classes, Taman Baiyati has also formed a kompang group. This started out as an initiative to engage the youths and help them to spend their time with more productive activities over the weekend. The Kompang Group is led by Mr Saifuddin Jaafar. He is also a MAJH volunteer and has been helping MAJH for over 10 years.
MAJH and Haj Yusoff Mosque have been working together since 2002. According to MAJH Secretary Mr Zulkifli bin Enjom, the youths from Hougang Street 91 are getting more acquainted with the mosque. They have been joining the mosque programmes, assisting with the Youth Programme, leading Bilal leaders and etc.
At the same time, the collaboration has helped to further strengthen the relationship with the residents of Hougang Street 91, providing the opportunity for them to come together to help the mosque prosper. "Not only that, Haji Yusoff Mosque has always been giving us support in providing transportation for the residents of Hougang Street 91 and the MAJH Committee Members to attend the Syarahan at Haji Yusoff Mosque", said Mr Muhammad Bakri.
MAJH has also participated in the various programmes organised by Haji Yusoff Mosque. Mr Haji Sam'an bin Sainee stated that he personally benefited from working with Haji Yusoff Mosque, as he can learn good practices from how Haji Yusoff Mosque organises events and programmes, handles administration matters and so on.
Mr Zulkifli Enjom shared that some of his unforgettable memories were when the MAJH held a Musabaqah Tilawah Taman Baiyati at Haji Yusoff Mosque. MAJH also held the Tadarus Al-Qur'an for mothers from Hougang Street 91 to participate in. This was also supported by Haji Yusoff Mosque.

MAJH members have also expressed their desire to continue being a part of the Haji Yusoff Mosque family.
For example, Mr Saifudin Jaafar, who assists in the Korban activities at Haji Yusoff Mosque, finds that programmes co-organised by Haji Yusoff Mosque and MAJH provide an opportunity to meet both new and old friends.
MAJH volunteer and avid gardener Mr Haji Ibrahim bin Baid has been using his knowledge to contribute to Haji Yusoff Mosque. One of his contributions and accomplishments includes growing small Ajwa palm trees. There are now more than 50 vases of Ajwa palm trees at Haji Yusoff Mosque. Providing a space for Artisic e xpression and spiritual music
The Nasyid Tasnim Group was formed in 2004 under the patronage and observation of Al-Marhum Al-Ustaz Abdullah Faqih, the group's founder.
The name of the Tasnim group is derived from the Qur'anic verse from Surah Al-Muthaffifiin: verse 27 which means the spring in Paradise. Tasnim initially consisted of several students from Madraah Aljunied Al-Islamiah, Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah and later expanded to secular students in the Serangoon neighborhood. The group began training at the Serangoon Neighborhood Committee (Serangoon RC) under the supervision of Haji As'at as manager.
In cooperation with the RC, Tasnim was given the opportunity to perform at the RC regularly throughout the Religious Council as well as festivals such as Hari Raya Meetings. On top of that, Tasnim continues to get invited to perform at weddings. Time and time again, the group moved to a temporary training ground at En-Naeem Mosque and subsequently based at the Haji Yusof Mosque to this day.

Under the roof of the Haji Yusof Mosque, we were once again given the opportunity and exposure to perform at mosques all over Singapore as well as the events organized by MUIS.

At first, Tasnim was only acting as a nasyid entertainer. Over time, Tasnim formed the Kompang Group to serve the local and corporate councils. Not too long ago, the club continued to expand by providing photographic services, sound systems and interpreters (Islamic DJs) during receptions. Over the 16 years since its formation, Tasnim members also served as volunteers in numerous community events organised by Haji Yusof Mosque.
Alhamdulillah and praise be to Allah, Tasnim's services are well-received not only by the Malay community in Singapore but from other communities as well. May Tasnim remain relevant as per mentioned in the Qur'an and continue to provide an exhilarating source of spiritual comfort as stated in Surah AlMuthaffifiin. Our endless thanks to the Haji Yusoff Mosque and to those who have helped in supporting these small efforts.

All AHU AKBAR
(Ren U n GAn eR ti tAQWA )

AntARA Ci R i- C i R i o RA n G YA n G Be R tAQWA
AntARA J A n J i All AH PADA oRA n G YA n G Be R tAQWA
