Guide to Equivalence of the American High School Diploma (H.S.D) 2024/2025
The American High School Diploma (H.S.D) is equivalent to the following examinations (I/II est) / (AP) / (Digital SAT) based on the following criteria:
1. The student must complete twelve years of formal education, as stated in Article 25 of the success, completion, and failure criteria.
2. The schools from which the students graduated must be accredited by an American educational authority, and their high school diplomas (H.S.D) must be certified by the (AMIDEST) office in Amman.
3. Jordanian school graduates must pass all subjects at all levels from the following subjects in the eleventh and twelfth grades: Arabic language, Islamic education (for Muslim students), and Jordanian history based on the approved Jordanian curriculum, in addition to the subjects of the American diploma.
Equivalence Options:
Students must choose one of the following options:
Option 1:
Six (6) subjects from est II, with at least three of them being scientific subjects, one of which must be Mathematics Level 2 to qualify for the scientific branch. The average is calculated as follows:
o 25% from the last three years (combined equally).
o 75% from est II scores.
Option 2:
Four (4) subjects from est II + one (1) AP subject, with at least three of them being scientific subjects, one of which must be Mathematics Level 2 to qualify for the scientific branch. The average is calculated as follows:
o 25% from the last three years (combined equally).
o 50% from est II scores.
o 25% from AP scores.
Option 3:
Two (2) subjects from est II + two (2) AP subjects, with at least three of them being scientific subjects, one of which must be Mathematics Level 2 to qualify for the scientific branch. The average is calculated as follows:
o 25% from the last three years (combined equally).
o 25% from est II examinations.
o 50% from AP examinations.
Option 4:
Three (3) AP subjects, with at least two of them being scientific subjects, to qualify for the scientific branch. The average is calculated as follows:
o 25% from the last three years (combined equally).
o 75% from AP examinations.
Note: A student may replace the est I exam or an exam from est II with the Digital SAT exam. It is possible for a student who does not wish to take the International exam to replace it with the same weight (two exams from est II or an AP exam).
Common Culture Subjects: The subjects from the Jordanian General Secondary Examination (Islamic education, Arabic language, Jordanian history) and the Arabic language (A-Level from the British curriculum, and Arabic A from the International Baccalaureate high-level curriculum) can be considered alternative optional (literary) subjects for est II subjects only in all previous options.
Important Note: Exams in Arabic language and Islamic education from curricula of countries that rely on the general exam to evaluate their students will not be considered, except for the Jordanian General Secondary Curriculum starting from the academic year 2022/2023.
Note: Students whose American high school diplomas (H.S.D) are equivalent without taking the equivalence exams (AP/EST/SAT) from the Jordanian General Secondary Certificate must prove that they have obtained a university degree (Bachelor's) from the same country recognized by the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education.
It is not allowed to combine the Digital SAT exam and est I; subjects from est Subject or ACT and SAT II subjects are considered similar and cannot be repeated.
