A Brooklyn Townhome

The design intent for this Brooklyn townhome was to bring more light and openess to the interior space. One of the design strategies was to open up the parlor floor and bring the heart of the home to the center spotlight: the kitchen becomes a feature and provides a boundary for the different programmatic spaces of the floor. By opening up the parlor floor, the townhome becomes more light and airy, bringing a contemporary feel within the traditional features that remains in the space.

A Co-Living Flagship

Co-living, although not a new housing typology, is being reintroduced at an urban scale as a solution for the city’s disparate housing market. As opportunities increase in the city so does the need for better housing. The Collective flagship is a 640-units new construction hotel and residential building located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Collective offers a fully furnished apartment: an individual bathroom and a small kitchenette with each space. The shared living component for each member is a series of amenities spaces distributed throughout the building, thus creating microcommunities and engagement within each co-living building.

The Paper Factory Hotel

The Paper Factory project involved a lobby gut renovation of an existing hotel to align with The Collective’s brand identity. The goal with the lobby is to redistribute amenity spaces on the ground floor to become a more informal hotel lobby while inviting the public into different amenity spaces. ‘The Light Box’, the backdrop and storage space for BOH, becomes the element provides an informal boundary for the different programs of the groun floor.

The Trinity Affordable Apartments

The Trinity is a 154-unit affordable housing project located in the Bronx. The building is made up of studios, 1-bedrooms, 2-bedrooms, & 3-bedrooms that comply with HPD guidelines. The design intent of the building was to showcase a play of light and heavy. The dark brick provides the anchor of the building mass while the white concrete panel provides a light and playful upper mass. The different shades of grey bricks were used to create a gradient facade from the dark to light materials.

60 Brooklyn Townhouses

For this project, myself and 3 other intern architects surveyed 60 townhouses in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, within the span of 10 months. We surveyed all floors, including the roof and cellar. After surveying the buildings, we drafted all 60 townhouse floor plans, roof plan, and exterior elevations to be included in a document set for record and future renovations.

(Un)Folding Facade

Hidden behind the brutalist brick wall is an institutuion essential to the Harlem community. The educational facility that exposes and guides children to the different disciplines of the arts is currently outdated and physically disconnected from its Harlem community. The current facility has a solid brick wall with no transparency to the community. Through a series of folded surfaces, the street wall creates transparency between the school and the community.
