Professor Hansjoerg Goeritz - University of Tennessee, Knoxville || 471 Integrations Design + Technical Design
Katherine Pennington + Seth Vinson
For the integrations studio, which combines research, design, structural details, and LEED and COTE achievements, I worked with Penngington and Vinson to propose an interactive car experience center for General Motors to be located at their headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas. I studied plant species native to the area and incorporated them into the landscape along with other green practices such as rain gardens and gabion walls.
Softwares: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Rhino, and Twin Motion

Kokkonen Survey Team
While studying abroad in Finland, I worked with a small groups to gather site measurements from Alvar Aalto’s Villa Kokkonen, including its interior, exterior, and property elevation changes. This data guided hand drawn site plans, elevations (see below), site plans, plans, sections, and a scaled physical model. All of these drawings and model are located in the Kokkonen Villa museum.

The pursuit of craft as an industry will reveal the strengths of the community. The raw and reclaimed materials from abandoned industrial building and other outfitters will be collected and barged to the common land, Patton Island, where it will be utilized by local crafters from the four cities to create site atmosphere and then for personal projects. This upcycling cycle will deepen connections between communal members and aid in the Quad-cities’ overall growth and prosperity. Everyone has a unique ingredient to be added to the mixture that bakes the beautiful handcrafted cake

Studio 496
In my final semester at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I collaborated with my architectural studio to design and build, The Trillium Pavilion located at Cherokee Farms Research Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. This project utilized large-scale three-dimensional printing of recycled materials, computer numerical control routing, metal bending machinery, and CAD softwares to fabricate the structural and aesthetic components. The triangular oculus, shown left, is placed at the center of the highest point in the pavilion. Based off the symmetry shown in the Trillium flower, it offers light throughout the evening and casts unique shadows during the summer and winter solstice.

MENTOR | STUDIO Professor Maged Guerguis - University of Tennessee, Knoxville || 271 City as Context Studio
Project Description:
My second year of undergrad, I worked with my studio to propose Super Habitats, a sustainable neighborhood located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. I utilized ‘Rhino, Grasshopper’ scripts to generate variations of housing designs and then implemented sustainable principles such as rainwater recycling, incorporation of double pane low-E glass for all apertures, UV purification process to for rainwater recycling, a green roof, and solar electricity.

MENTOR | STUDIO Scott Landis - Building Systems Incorporated
Project Description:
Under the guidance of Scott Landis and Building System Incorporated, I utilized existing site measurements to draft plans, elevations, sections, and details for the remodel of Gannon University’s, Mary Seat of Wisdom Chapel located in Erie, Pennsylvania. The project initiated the summer of 2020 and is now accessible to the public.

MENTOR | STUDIO Professor Mark Stanley + Micah Rutenburg - University of Tennessee, Knoxville || 492 Foreign Study Studio
Project Description:
Using research of the interconnecting tunnels located beneath Helsinki, Finland, I proposed a unique opportunity for people to share more interactions with those in their surroundings. This escalator ride encourages nonverbal communication between those riding up and down. It is a passage which sheds the layers of deceit and allows true colors to shine.
