CCC participates in 48 hour film festival By Caleb Slater, editor-in-chief The Film making process can be a long and frustrating one, months of time can go into just the editing alone! Cayuga Community College has an upcoming film making opportunity that has done away with the time consuming process of film making, with the 48 hour film festival! The competition is designed to see how students can utilize their creative skills and think fast on their feet in order to: write, direct, shoot and edit a film in just 48 hours! Film making teams ranging from 3 to 10 members must register by Tuesday, September 29th in order to participate in the competition that will be held from October 2nd until October 4th. For those who are interested, an informational session on the festival is scheduled to be held in the college cafeteria/student center on Wednesday, September 23rd at 3:30.

Former WDWN station manager, Lauren Maltese, and WDWN staff advisor, Jeff Szczesniak, will be traveling to the White House to represent CCC’s radio program.

Cayuga Community College radio station, WDWN, is one of five college radio stations, nationally, that have been invited to represent the medium of college radio at the White House. The visit will place on Thursday, September 24th as a prelude to National College Radio Day, which will take place the following week on Oct 2. During the visit, the representatives from the five college stations will be credentialed as members of the White House press corps and will have the opportunity to interview President Obama’s top domestic policy advisers about college affordability issues. They are also expected also have sessions with Vice-President Joe Biden and Press Secretary Josh Earnest. It is anticipated that President Barack Obama will meet the college representatives as well. WDWN has long been recognized as a leader in college radio. In past years the station has been nominated for several national awards by CMJ, including station of the year. This year the station has been nominated for CMJ’s “Biggest Champion of the Local Music Scene” award. Cayuga professor Steve Keeler, the general manager of WDWN, said, “the opportunity for a small community college like Cayuga to represent all of college radio at the White House is a testament to the high regard in which WDWN is held in the world of college radio.” Jeff Szczesniak, who is the staff advisor of WDWN, will represent the station at the event along with former station staff member Lauren Maltese. In 2013, Szczesniak was named national college radio advisor of the year by Tune-In. College Radio Day is sponsored by the College Radio Foundation.
