SANDRO MONETTI British Entertainment Journalist

9 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017

“The secret to happiness is helping others and if ever my work helps anyone learn, laugh or feel inspired then I’m a very happy guy,” says Sandro Monetti.

Sandro Monetti has worked at leading international news organizations including the BBC, Sky News and CNN, is a bestselling author, acclaimed playwright and created the world’s first Bachelor of Arts university course in celebrity journalism.

A leading international entertainment reporter regularly-seen on CNN and BBC covering Hollywood, and a Journalist of the Year nominee for the last two years, this Beverly Hills-based Brit is also a pop culture expert on Bravo TV series ‘Then and Now.’ In addition, he’s a mentor, educator, author and scriptwriter who has written hit plays for the New York and London stages and is next writing for film and TV. “It may seem like I do lots of different things but to me they are all the same thing – telling a compelling story with insight, enthusiasm and passion.” He adds, “While living and working in LA, I’ve been lucky to meet just about every big name in showbusiness and I’ve learned something from every one of them.” But he says the message that resonates most with him now is a quote from actor Kevin Spacey that, “Anyone who experiences any degree of success has a responsibility to send the elevator back down.” It’s those words that drove him to become chairman of the BAFTA LA Newcomers, a program set up by the British Film and TV Academy in Los Angeles to help talented Brits new to Hollywood climb the showbiz ladder. “We give them networking and mentoring opportunities where they meet the kind of great teachers I’ve been lucky enough to have,” adds Sandro. Another way he “sent the elevator back down” was by creating the world's first Bachelor of Arts university degree course in Celebrity Journalism – now being taught in Britain – as an attempt to raise standards and status of showbiz reporters. Something else he created, “to share my love of movies with fellow fans,” was the Celebrity Insider Movie Locations Tour of Los Angeles with tour firm Tourific Escapes.com, and it rapidly became the number one rated attraction of its kind on Trip Advisor. “Instead of seeing the supposed homes of the stars, I wanted to see the homes and locations where my favorite films were shot and as that tour didn’t exist I decided to create it.” Sandro grew up in England as a huge fan of films and TV with American stars a particular influence and he long dreamed of moving to the United States. Now he does, he still retains the same child-like enthusiasm for Hollywood and that accounts for the passion he brings to all projects.

After a career working for Britain’s biggest newspapers, covering sports, royals, news and ultimately celebrities, he relocated from London to Los Angeles to report on Hollywood and soon went on to write two bestselling books on two of his favorite actors, Mickey Rouke: Wrestling with Demons and Colin Firth: The Man Who Would be King. He quickly established himself as the man the stars talk to, first as a Q&A moderator for BAFTA and then hosting spectacular celebrity interview events on stages around the world with Hollywood greats like Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino and George Clooney. Interviewing is his favorite aspect of his work. “I’m fascinated by people and everyone has an interesting story,” says Sandro, who also teaches interview technique. His status as a showbiz insider has made him a much in demand Hollywood expert on countless TV and radio shows, most notably on CNN International’s ‘Newsroom Live’ and Bravo’s ‘Then and Now,’ and he also co-hosts BBC radio’s Oscars coverage each year. He is an expert on business as well as showbusiness having been managing editor of the Los Angeles Business Journal and host of the leading annual LA business conference, the World Funding Summit. Talking of conferences, Sandro was recently at the World Government Summit in Dubai where global leaders gathered to discuss the future of the planet. But while he was covering that one as a reporter, Sandro was one of 179 “creative thought leaders” from around the world invited to participate as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly at a recent event called Novus where ideas-filled creatives like him helped the UN find alternative solutions to the problems facing the planet. Giving advice to others is a big part of Sandro’s latest project, which combines that experience and expertise in media with his passion for making a difference. He’s now a consultant to boutique international PR firm Right Angles, working on publicity strategy to raise the profiles for leading business figures and firms. Meanwhile his own profile as a scriptwriter is on the rise. He has written a series of acclaimed and award winning short films and plays in recent years and enjoyed a huge success in 2016 when his play ‘Marilyn and Sinatra’ became a big hit around the world, with sellout runs Off Broadway in New York and then in London’s West End. The show tells a little known true story he discovered of the romance between showbiz icons Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. It has just been released as an audio play now available for download from bigfinish.com and coming soon to Audible and other outlets.

13 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2017

“Seeing how that show moved audiences to both laughter and tears was really impactful and gave me confidence that telling little known stories of well known stars was a good path to pursue in future and that’s what I’m doing in the scripts I’m working on now,” added Sandro, who is represented as a scriptwriter by leading British agency Cole Kitchenn and has both a film and TV series currently in development. His own story is fascinating and it’s one he tells in a one man show he has performed around the world. Called “Clooney, Cruise, Pitt and Me” it tells of his amusing encounters with stars from Madonna to Michael Jackson. Such stories will form the basis of an upcoming book he has planned – just as soon as he can find time to write it. Whatever happens next we know Sandro will do it with a smile on his face because, like he says, “I’m doing what I always wanted to do in the place where I always wanted to be and getting to help others achieve their dreams too.” Sandro will be hosting the World Funding Summit at the LA Convention Center November 17 and 18 - details at worldfundingsummit.com photos by Brenda Saint Hilaire Photography Hair and Makeup by Ximena Rolfe (CNN America Inc.) Our Mission To Feed, House and Educate the Children of Orange County

Our Beginnings

It all started with Mama Caterina 2005, Bruno and his mother, Caterina, visited the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim down the street from his restaurant (Anaheim White House), where his mother noticed that there was a 6-year old boy eating potato chips for dinner, because his family couldn’t afford a proper meal. Caterina insisted that Bruno make some pasta for the child. They soon realized that there were many more of these hungry ‘motel children’, so Bruno began making pasta for 72 children, 5 nights a week, giving birth to our program “Feeding the Kids in America”. Today, that event has expanded to feeding nearly 3,000 children, 5 nights a week. Frustrated that feeding the children was not enough, Bruno began a second program called “Welcome Home”, where we provide qualified families, living in the dark environment of a motel, with the necessary resources to move into the safety and stability of an apartment or condominium. Most recently Caterina’s Club began Chef Bruno’s Culinary Program where high school aged students learn hospitality skills to join the work force after graduation and not return to unsafe motel living. Join us Sunday August 27th at 5PM to help Caterina’s Club raise funds at the 12th Annual Red Carpet Gala. The annual Gala will feature a gourmet dinner, orchestra music by Carlo Ponti Jr. (son of Sophia Loren), a children’s dance ensemble and silent and live auction items available.

This event is a “Can’t Miss”

Retrieving Wisdom beyond Mind Chatter By Tara-jenelle Walsch

Lately my mind has been overactive with philosophizing every thing that is (or isn’t) going on in my life. I mean literally, every.little.thing. This happens from time to time and I’ll admit, I sometimes ignore it, but more often than not, I’ve surprised myself by listening and found insight beyond the chatter. Take last night, for instance, when I got up for a sneaky, “I shouldn’t be eating at this hour” snack after 10pm. I grabbed a week old bag of blue tortilla chips and a half an avocado then made a beeline back to the bedroom for a late-night chow down (ahh, the pleasures of being single). As I’m scooping out segments of avocado with each chip (why dirty a plate?), I notice that some chips are breaking, half way in. They just can’t handle it. Even with the avocado’s exquisite level of ripeness – the chip just looses it. “Ughhh!” I catch myself scowling. “That would’ve been a perfect bite.” I go in for a second attempt and it happens again; total chip break. This time the break was complete with an actual fumble, and my nails got the green dunk. Luckily Sascha, my furry food companion, had been patiently awaiting a slip-up since I nestled in with the goods and was there to save the day—because we’ve all seen what avocado can do to a dishtowel, my current napkin of choice. “Hey,“ immediately debates the other side of my brain “who says every bite has to have avocado on it in order to be perfect?” “Oh come on!” my other side mocked, “You can’t be serious.” “I am indeed.” The first side continued. “Sometimes the simplicity of a plain chip is even more delicious. If there were avocado on every chip you would loose taste of what lies underneath and the essence of authentic layers would also be lost.”

19 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

“Seriously, you wanna play that game, Miss Spiritual?” (Important Note: Incidentally, I don’t have schizophrenia, just an extremely overzealous awareness around my thoughts and feelings.) Then things started to get unseasonably deep as I began to ponder, “Geez, maybe I subconsciously put more force into the scooping of certain chips to self-sabatoge the “perfect” bites in order to remind myself not to be attached to things having to look a certain way—in order to redefine my idea of perfection.” “Wow (my ego chimed in), did you see how you just embedded a life lesson for yourself into such a simple act— you’re aMAZing Tara!” Just then Sascha saved my sanity (again), barking for another scrap and bringing me back to reality. And now thinking straight, I wouldn’t quite call it “amazing,” I think I’d call it something more like “bored.” Yet I’m picking up on what my mind does with boredom, which counts for something. As obnoxious as mind chatter may seem at times, it can also carry some profound insight. And though most of us have a similar experience when we listen to our thoughts (this is where everyone shakes their head or I’m in big trouble), we are often unaware of it while, or even shortly after it occurs. Sometimes it takes days, or even years, for us to experience something physically and tie it in with an astute thought we had earlier. So often we dismiss our mind chatter immediately and may even make ourselves feel bad about it. The interesting thing is that the same thoughts that ramble on and seemingly steal the zen right out of us in one moment, can also step up and reveal the utmost widsom, in the next. And when we’re patient with it’s initial meaninglessness and can surrender to listening beyond it, we may be delighted to hear insightful retortions that ring of true wisdom. Much of it is the gift of allowing ourselves to let go of what we think we may need to control in that moment and trust that our true self (soul) has the answers. We’ve all thought about the possibility of that at some point (head shake), but then likely told our minds we didn’t need to move through a filtering system to reach connection with our soul. Because, of course, we’re evolved enough to know if our life experience was being polluted with such 20 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

insideous white noise (right?). Yet, interestingly enough, most of personal evolution is about sifting through the fog and finding our inner life rope to guide us along. It makes you wonder: If we really believe that most answers are within us, when will we consciously make a comittment to shift out of the unhealthy patterns of our linear thinking and move directly to the wisdom of the soul? One might suggest that we lean in for closer examination when we discover ourselves gaining valuable insight from a late night snack. That would probably be a good starting point, anyway. RoadMap for Retrieving Wisdom beyond Mind Chatter 1 – Increase mind chatter awareness 2 – Don’t immediately dismiss it 3 – Watch as it debates itself 4 – Notice which side makes more sense 5 – Find the wisdom within it 6 – Hush the other side & surrender to soul’s voice Are you in a soul quandary? Your Soul’s Choice

22 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

By Rhys Thomas What does your life purpose have to do with your soul? The term soul is defined by Webster’s dictionary as “a person’s inner spiritual self,” not necessarily anything that is religious. Instead, soul points to an ineffable quality that is within us all and forms a core part of our being. Your soul has always been a part of you, even before your birth, and carries the qualities that make you unique as a human being. You can connect to your soul through your deepest feelings and emotions, often coming to you as a sense of energy that is not entirely physical. This “soul energy” is your life energy, the force that animates everything you do. It reaches through you in every moment, connecting you to the world and letting you contribute your unique flavor to all of life. It transcends the physical world, it is eternal, and it is your truest essence. Barbara Brennan, the spiritual healer and former NASA physicist whose classic Hands of Light put energy medicine on the map, writes of the soul in her recent book, Light Emerging: “It has been there within us since before the beginning of time . . . it is beyond time, space and belief. It is the individual aspects of the divine . . . We recognize it easily as that which we have always known ourselves to be since birth. In this place, we are wise, loving, and full of courage.” Your life purpose is not chosen by you but by your soul. Because it is your soul’s choice, it is nonnegotiable. It never changes. It is yours and yours alone for life, and only when you tap into the energy of your soul does your life become directed, purposeful, and even magical. To truly know your soul is to free yourself of all illusions that limit your creative force. This freedom comes as you realize that your power to create—your life purpose—is a gift you have been given. You accept that gift when you stop chasing after someone else’s ideal life and rediscover the source of your own life—your unique core soul self. It would seem that since your life purpose is your soulderived birthright, living it should not be difficult. You were born doing it. You can’t help but know it and live from it. But because life inevitably inflicts wounds on us

and we form beliefs in response to these wounds, the job becomes more complicated. You must first identify your life purpose, then align with it and allow it to become your source of motivation and energy to courageously act according to it. That is the life you were destined to live—and can live when you have the right tools. In Rhys Thomas’ Discover Your Purpose, you learn to unlock your hidden potential and live the life your soul chooses to live. The key that opens the door is the Rhys Method Life Purpose Profile System, a tool that helps you to determine your unique soul profile, the design of your original mission, and how best to work with it to bring forth what you are here to do. Once you know who you are, you can live to the fullest the life you were meant to live.

Reclaming Your True Self

with Angela Dunning

The Energy of Engagement By Angela Dunning

Engagement is a two-way process requiring self-belief, intention and energy. Whether we are wishing to engage with another person, a horse, or life in general, any form of engagement and progress requires us to take the first step. We must locate the drive within us to tentatively reach out and do something before we can reap any rewards. Sort of like The Law of Attraction suggests: for anything to respond to us, we have to first move towards it, even if in the smallest of ways. As a highly sensitive introvert, with an Animus (masculine-side) who is still very much healing and developing into a more positive part of me, my confidence levels can vary from day to day. Therefore, I can sometimes find this initial action difficult. There is also a part of me that hopes, (fantasizes), that somehow, life will respond all on its own and that I can just sit back and wait for the things I want to transpire. Yet this is just that: a fantasy.

24 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

25 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Yes, sometimes life sends us the good stuff seemingly without our direct input first. Yet I’ve found that this often happens when in fact we have been taking steps within ourselves to effect some change, maybe in letting go of our attachment to dreams or wishes. Or perhaps we have been taking better care of ourselves – tending our sweet inner-garden more gently through rest, healthy eating and much, much self-love. As a creative person I can also let this non-active part of me let this fantasy seep into my work at times, until I remember that it is I who must reach out, in whatever way, and sometimes even just in the smallest of ways – a phone call, an email, a piece of writing. Basically, a connection of some kind to someone else to kick-start the process and energy of engagement once again. When we interact with horses, generally, they show us that this is also the case. To invite the horse to connect and participate in something with us usually requires us to take the first step towards them. We need to have a clear intention about what we’d like. And be able to raise our energy levels sufficiently so that the horse feels our desire to engage and, is therefore, more likely to respond to us; just as with life generally. I frequently work with clients to help them increase their ability to reach-out and invite the horse to join them. However, to do this requires some degree of self-worth to be in place first. As without this missing ingredient it is hard, if not impossible, to believe that the horse will want to be with us. Many times people try to simply raise their energy levels, in fact, many horsemanship approaches teach this, yet without digging deeper and uncovering why the energy is not available to them in that moment. Again, if our confidence is low, or our selfworth is not solidly developed, our energy will reflect this and not yet be accessible to us. I notice in others too, especially creative, introverted sensitive people, sometimes a reticence about taking that first step and engaging the world to respond to their art or work. A holding-back, usually for fear of rejection of them or their creations, and/or being unable to stay with their vulnerability as they dare to show the world what comes from inside of them and their imaginations. It takes courage to venture out. To put ourselves out for all the world to see, especially in this instant social media world which we live in where we can receive instant feedback or a lack of responses. It can be harsh, scary and downright heartbreaking as we sit and wait for the engage26 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

ment process to happen after mustering so much courage and bravery to reveal ourselves to the world. Yet reach out we must. Engagement is a two-way process. If we think of it in terms of two partners dancing: it literally takes two to tango. If only one is keen then no dance is possible. And if we really want to dance with a particular person, or to a particular tune, then we must take that first step and invite them to dance with us – human or equine – with clear intention and sufficient energy present so that the other party feels our desire. When I have been feeling low, going through a period of vulnerability, or lacking self-confidence, I find it helpful to remember all this when I am wanting life to send me certain things. To remind myself that I must take the first step towards whatever it is I desire. This usually encourages me to take that step which also usually fuels my confidence to take another, and another, as life begins to respond to me. I think of the horses, or imaginary dance partners, and ask the world to dance with me again.

The blessing of having nothing By Roxana Jones

Many perhaps will find the following affirmation a bit contradictory: In the absence of everything I once had was where I finally recognized all the blessings life had already gifted me. ~HealThruWords Quotes by Roxana Jones How does one see a blessing where there’s nothing to feel blessed about? This is where millions of people get stuck when transforming their wishes into realities. The majority of people in this world want something they don’t have. Everybody is ‘missing’ something, whether it is related to love, health, career, wealth, and so on. Many will deny it, but consciously or unconsciously, this is simply the natural way of learning how to master the human game. The reason why so many are not having a life with everything they want is so simple that the mind cannot fully grasp it at first: They focus on the absence of that which they want. And because this universe can only bring to them that which they are focused on, well then,

the universe brings more absence of that which they want. Not too long ago, I was part of the many and I used to focus too much in the absence of what I wanted. So one day, life decided it had to take drastic measures, as it couldn’t bring me the things I had been asking for so long. For months in a row I lived in a tiny and modest studio with no furniture. A laptop, a cell phone, a mattress, some few kitchen utensils, some bathroom toiletries, and a small closet to put 3 medium boxes with all my clothes, were all that I had. A couple of weeks after this stage in my life started, I realized I had two ways of experiencing this lesson life was offering me. Using the famous proverb, I could choose to live depressed and with a negative attitude while focusing on the part of my glass that was empty, or, I could choose to feel happy and stay positive while focusing on the part of my glass that was full.

29 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Honestly, my surroundings were so dull that it was quite easy to choose the empty part of my glass and ignore the lesson life insistently wanted me to learn. Until one night, in the middle of my slowness I finally got it. There had been no emptiness in my glass whatsoever and there would never be! You see, even when the glass seemed empty to the naked eyes, the glass was always full of… air! How come I had been focusing for so long on an emptiness that didn’t exist? Of course, my ego-mind jumped right in to suggest I had to continue believing in the absence of the things my limited vision still couldn’t see. “Look around! You couldn’t be in a worst condition! You don’t even have where to sit, or where to eat!” Patiently, I did my best to appease and ignore my dramatic ego and started questioning myself: Was I fully alive? Yes Did I have all the energy to make my brain and body function properly? Yes Was my heart allowing me to feel love? Yes Did I have all the tools I needed for my work? Yes Did I have water and food to nurture and replenish my physical self? Yes Did I have a place where to sleep and spend the night? Yes Could I take a shower and keep my body clean? Yes Could I meditate and exercise daily? Yes Did I have fresh air and natural light everyday? Yes This questioning process went on for a while, until I got the point. Life had simply ‘erased’ my old material reality so I could stop being ‘distracted’ while I was learning how to stay permanently focused on the full glass that was already overflowing within me. The majority of us have been taught to create life from the outside-in. We believe we must do in order to have and then be. But what if the only way it truly works is if you create life from the inside-out? What if we first need to be in order to do, and then have whatever we want? How come I had been focusing for so long on an emptiness that didn’t exist? An Email from a Librarian By Janine L. Kimmel

33 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e Augsut 2017

What appears as random, may be, but more likely it is not random at all. One late afternoon, in mid February, I received an email from a librarian of a middle school in Orange County, California. I live in New Jersey, 2,873 miles from Orange County, California! She told me how much she and the students loved both my books, The Magic Gown and The Yawning Rabbit River Chronicle. And she went on to say that the students have been wondering why my books are not with the Renaissance Accelerated Reader 360 Program because they would love for the books to be a part of that incentive reading program. They wanted to take a quiz on both these magical adventure stories. As I emailed her, to thank her, and tell her that I would look into submitting my illustrated chapter books to the

34 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Accelerated Reader 360 for consideration, which I did, I realized that just a few days prior, I had been asked to come to the Los Angeles area to visit family in early May and I said to the librarian that I would be delighted to come to her school for a visit, being that I would only be about an hour and half away. She replied, ‘Yes, that would be so great but that they were a low-income school and could not pay me.’ And my response was, “That’s ok, I’d love to come and say hello to the enthusiastic readers and meet you as well.” So, come May, I packed my large art scrolls of my vibrant paintings, that inspired the story, The Magic Gown, that I use in my presentations, called, ‘The Art of Storytelling & Illustration’. And as I teach in these workshops, ‘some stories start with an image.’

Now in California for a few days, there I was leaving Topanga Canyon, following the GPS in the car my family had lent to me. Lately, I love to share the story about Carl Jung, the break-through mystical psychiatrist, who came to the realization, that ‘…enchantment is the oldest form of medicine.’ He came to that realization when he treated a young woman, just once, who was suffering from severe insomnia. Seeing he was not ‘reaching’ her in their session, he intuitively began to sing and hum an enchanting lullaby to her, having run out of ‘what else to do’. The song was a lullaby his mother had sung to his younger sister about a sailboat on a soothing gentle lake. A year later, Carl Jung would find out from a colleague that her insomnia was gone since that day she had seen Dr. Jung. Prior to the students coming into the room, I was told by the librarian, that many of the students were ‘motel’ children or homeless and that they lived by the river in secret, too embarrassed and perhaps fearful to tell the school. I found my self, standing in front of 90 precious fifth graders sitting on the floor. It was palpable to me in that moment, that this was a privilege and an honor, and special, that my path had crossed these extraordinary youngsters and their dedicated librarian. As I unraveled the vibrant prints of the magical door paintings and landscapes, I quoted the mythologist, Joseph Campbell, with, “The big question is whether you will say a hearty YES to ‘your’ adventure.” And also, Albert Einstein, who said, “Logic will take you from A to B, but the imagination will take you everywhere.” A third of the class I had been told had recently read out loud together, The Yawning Rabbit River Chronicle in their classroom. When I had finished my presentation, it was time for questions and discussion> For more than 45 minutes I was asked the most extraordinary insightful, pure questions by them. They delved deep into the story: “Did Sean, the rabbit thief, ever tell Meeka the wild horse that he loved her,” a girl asked? What a question of the heart!

They wanted to know about Penny Boy, an unusual character. In the perfect chemistry of enchantment, the magic had filled the room; it encompassed us all, perhaps from the time we started that day or maybe even in February when the librarian and I planned this encounter. These ‘things’ interest me. They change us, improve us and bring us together for the better, and they are part of the mysterious creative world. They told me, no author had ever come to their school. They asked if I could come back and teach them about art like the magic doors and forests in The Magic Gown. Did I have more stories, one boy asked? Yes, I have more stories! Yes, I will return! And I will in the Autumn 2017. The questions, and conversations from the 90 fifth graders, went on and on. I was enthralled, impressed, so deeply touched, and forever grateful to these beautiful children and the wonderful librarian who wrote me.

The Joy of Living… Combining Holistic and Mainstream Therapies By Barry Eaton

My life changed drastically the day my ear nose and throat doctor informed me that what I naively thought was just something caught in my throat, was actually a cancerous throat tumour. Immediate surgery was the next step and “perhaps that may solve the problem”. The very word cancer is enough to send a chill up anyone’s spine, let alone when it comes in a medical diagnosis. The burning question for me was: what next? Would surgery solve the problem or was this the start of interminable medical treatments? Surgery did not remove all the cancer cells, and to top it off a biopsy of my thyroid also showed signs of cancer and would have to come out. Good grief, more surgery! Then following that, I faced the daunting prospect of radiotherapy, or even chemotherapy, to kill those recalcitrant cells. The big dilemma – do I go mainstream or alternative? More lost sleep, which only I could decide. One thing I knew intuitively was that I would survive the ordeal – somehow. My ticket to the afterlife would not be stamped just yet.

37 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Over the years I had chosen the holistic approach, preferring alternative procedures when health problems arose. Of course there are times when we all need to visit a doctor, and take prescription medicines. Now with my thyroid gone I faced a lifetime of taking Thyroxine tablets to provide the hormone not being naturally generated by my body. As a general rule I prefer treatments like acupuncture, osteopathy, bush flower essences, natural medicine and spiritual healing. So I was faced with the biggest health decision of my life. During deep meditation I received explicit instructions from my master guide whose wisdom has played an invaluable role in my life. Spirit wanted me to combine mainstream and alternative therapy and afterwards write a book about my experience. The story would help alleviate fear and inspire people to take a positive role in their healing. My decision made, I agreed to radiotherapy, following my guide’s recommendation. I refused chemotherapy. I could then open myself up to the full range of holistic solutions and trust that my footsteps would be led in the right direction. They were. My family was surprised, fearing that I would reject mainstream medicine, and end up as another disastrous statistic. Synchronistically, one-by- one, a variety of therapeutic support options dropped into my lap. A healer friend offered regular energy clearing to offset the effects of radiotherapy; a very talented hypnotherapist guest from my radio program , RadioOutThere, prepared me for the thirty five hospital treatments I was facing, and I was loaned a crystal bed from John of God’s healing centre in Brazil, which I had visited in 2008. Since being introduced to the rune stones over 25 years ago I have found them an invaluable way of tapping into my inner wisdom. Each message I received from the runes during the course of my treatment proved uncannily accurate. They clarified some of my inner turmoil and helped me understand what was happening at the time. My friends and family gave me widespread support. My partner Anne who co-wrote ‘The Joy of Living’ from her perspective, was a vital and loving part of my journey. My son Matt provided me with the backup I needed most in the early stages. Matt has written his thoughts in

38 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

The Joy of Living about the way events unfolded. I also appreciated a local congregation praying for my wellbeing, even though they didn’t know me. When I anxiously started radiotherapy, fortunately I was emotionally and spiritually prepared. The specialist radiation staff at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital was caring and supportive throughout the whole process. Yes, I did face challenging times, but combining mainstream and holistic practices worked exceptionally well for me, and four years down the track I am still cancer free. Looking back, my life has changed in ways I wouldn’t have expected, and I’m a better person for the whole experience. I believe it’s important to take some personal responsibility in challenging times like this. To collapse into fear is not the answer, nor is it always enough to simply expect one form of therapy to provide all the answers.

What is Old is New Again

AYURVEDA

By Greg Soucy

The 5000 year old therapy duo to that brings us to the edge of living in harmony and being in balance... When we think about therapies in spas it is generally of Swedish massage, facials, steams and pedicures, what I would like to talk about is a 5000 old tradition of wellness and longevity, whose teachings were passed down the ages as oral tradition and eventually as Sutras, or poetical verses in Sanskrit. 40 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

When speaking of well being in the context of health, one is not speaking of the market-driven ideas of the present day, but of the intimately related emotional and physical aspects of health and well being (Mind, Body & Soul). The more we nurture ourselves with the purity of the environment, the more radiant we become physically and expressively regardless of our particular body shape or proportions. We will glow, things flow smoothly, its as if a light has come on that has been out.

Ayurveda is perhaps the most complete system of living, embracing not only medicine, but also philosophy, psychology, lifestyle, and health. It is India's traditional natural healing system, believed to be more than 5,000 years old. The term Ayurveda derives from the Sanskrit words ayus and veda. Ayus translates as "life" and Veda as "knowledge" or "science" Ayurveda thus means the "Knowledge or Science of Life." According to Ayurveda Ayus is union of the mind, body, senses and soul. It is energy and vitality and is eternal. Ayurveda teaches us to live in harmony with the basic laws of nature. According to Ayurveda, health is a continuous and participatory process that embraces all aspects of life: physical, mental emotional, behavioral, spiritual, familial, social, and universal. Achieving balance on all levels of being is the true measure of vibrant health. All organic and inorganic substances are made up of five basic elements, Ether, Air, Fire, Water, & Earth. These are the building blocks of all material existence. Everything we know has a varying ratio of the five elements. Since we as humans are a combination of the five elements we also have a distinct pattern or map for each person, and no two people will be the same. We nourish ourselves with foods from the earth, and eventually, our body returns to the earth, from where it came. Water is our life sustaining fluid, making up a large percentage of our total body mass. Fire is within us accounting for the heat and radiant energy that exists within all metabolic and chemical actions. Air flows freely throughout the body, giving movement to biological functions and feeding every cell with oxygen. Space is ever-present, patiently residing in the background, providing the other elements with an opportunity to interact in this way. The five Elements also explain why substances of the natural world are harmonious with the human body. We utilize plants, herbs, minerals, and water because these substances are the same in composition and character to our own underlying make-up. Clearly, as each individual has all these principles at work, each person is a combination of the three doshas. Typically though, one or two doshas dominate lending unique character to the individual's mind-body constitution.

Here are examples of each dosha (body type): Vata = Air + Ether Vata is responsible for energy, movement, thought and perception of senses. The air element keeps the body fresh and cool the ether creates space within the body between cells causes involuntary air movement for respiration Allows for mobility. Pitta = Fire + Water Pitta represents Transformation Creates our digestive fire, regulates our body temperature. It moves the warmth and circulation of the body. It's sharpness enables sharp memory, sharp pain or sharp words Kapha = Earth + Water Kapha represents the structure and stability. Kapha's coolness helps maintain body temperature. Considered the dynamic force of our body tissues represents the mucous membranes and lubrication of our joints creates insulation within our body and it's movement is slow. Here are a few examples of what it is like to be in and out of balance with your specific dosha (body types): VATA - When in balance Vibrant, lively, enthusiastic, clear and alert mind, flexible, exhilarated, imaginative, sensitive, talkative, quick to respond. PITTA - When in balance Warm, loving, contented, enjoys challenges, strong digestion, lustrous complexion, good concentration, articulate and precise speech, courageous, bold, sharp wit, intellectual. KAPHA - When in balance Affectionate, compassionate, forgiving, emotionally steady, relaxed, slow, methodical, good memory, good stamina, stability, natural resistance to sickness. VATA-When out of balance Restless, unsettled, light interrupted sleep, tendency to over-exert, fatigued, constipated, anxious, worried underweight. PITTA - When out of balance Demanding, perfectionist, tendency towards frustration, skin rashes, irritable, impatient, prematurely gray hair, premature hair loss.

41 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

KAPHA - When out of balance Complacent, dull, oily skin, allergies, slow digestion, lethargic, possessive, over-attached, tendency to oversleep, overweight. What aggravates VATA Irregular routine, staying up late, irregular meals, cold, dry weather, excessive mental work, too much bitter, astringent or pungent food, traveling, injury. What aggravates PITTA Excessive heat or exposure to the sun, alcohol, smoking, time pressure, deadlines, excessive activity, too much spicy, sour or salty food, skipping meals. What aggravates KAPHA Oversleeping, overeating, insufficient exercise, too little variety in life, heavy and unctuous foods, too much sweet, sour, salty food, cold, wet weather. The pressures of modern life can and will wreak havoc with our natural state of well being. In past times people were in close contact with the earth and changes of the seasons, working the land, hunting and harvesting the food. Today we have traded this time tested habit of natural and direct experience for our creature comforts and conveniences. More of us live in cities, spending the waking hours in man-made environments. Simple things like light and heat, which once ruled our work and sleep patterns have become controllable at the flick of a switch. Foods flown in from all over the world are available to us year round, all but extinguishing seasonal selection. The world of the computer has on one hand made life simpler, but has also encouraged a sedentary existence. Supposedly we have more control, but the further we get from the earths natural rhythms, the more stressed our daily living becomes. Why is this you ask? It is these simple and modern connivances that interfere with the energy flows in our bodies. As a direct result, the body's natural balance of elements is disturbed. In an Ayurvedic context one would refer to this as an imbalance in our doshas (body type). The results could be stress, insomnia, anxiety, hypertension, hair loss, flu or common cold and many other disorders that affect lives and well being. Bearing in mind we cannot drop out and return to a natural existence, what can we do to help restore our own natural balance in modern times? 42 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Popular cosmetology and medicines focus primarily on outer beauty, treating the symptom rather than the cause of the disorder itself. Ayurveda recognizes that individual positive health results from a balance of five fundamental elements. When this balance is disturbed, ill health issues occur. Ayurveda addresses well being from the sites of origin in the mind and body, and capitalizes on all efforts relating to positive health, treating people as a whole, unique individuals rather than mere cases of some skin or scalp disorder. The most basic idea of Ayurveda is the concept of balance. We are healthy and happy when our doshas (body type) are properly balanced. Most disease results from an imbalance of our doshas. To heal the disease, the Ayurvedic practitioner attempts through various treatments to restore the balance. The balanced body then heals itself. In essence, Ayurveda is a system that uses the body's own defenses and re courses to restore and maintain health and happiness. It pertains to the achievement of the perfect state of well being, balancing the mind, body and soul. The Ayurvedic approach to health is twofold: heal sickness by restoring the body's natural balance of energies (doshas), and preserve health by carefully maintaining that balance through daily and seasonal routines. Two 5,000 Ayurvedic year old, wellness and longevity therapies, Abhyanga Marma Point Massage and Shirodhara can help return and maintain the doshas (body types) balance. When we combine them we will allow the body's energies to be restored and the inner mind to find peace, thus leaving us to live in harmony and be in balance, disease free. Abhyanga literally translated means 'oil application'. Marma Points (vital energy points) are positions on the body where flesh, veins, arteries, tendons, bones and joints meet. They are also junctions where Vata, Pitta and Kapha elements meet. They are points which have great importance to a person's mind, body and spirit. The major Marma Points correspond to the chakras. The minor points are found around the torso and limbs thus healing through marma affect the chakras, physical health and the doshas. This massage can be done with two or four hands, when using four hands it stimulates both the left and right side of the brain simultaneously, and also allow for deeper oil penetration. The therapists are moving in synchronicity and the pressure is applied equal at all times. They will

also be working either from navel towards head or from navel towards foot, or on the left hand side and right hand side of the body. It is a well choreographed dance full of grace, giving and gratitude. This treatment utilizes dosha specific herbal oils to pacify the client's imbalance in their doshic type. Because the marmas are the junctions of all five elements, it is these points that herbal application and pressure can most effectively restructure or re-balance the health and longevity of the body and mind by ensuring the proper balance. Abhyanga therapeutic oil application combined with Marma Point Massage helps eliminate toxins from the body, allowing healing and restoration of the tissues, channels, digestion and mental functions. General benefits may include the following: • Calming excessive mental activity • Improving circulation • Removing stiffness from joints • Improving concentration and intelligence • Promoting good vision • Stimulating the lymphatic system • Remedying insomnia • Balancing hormonal and nervous system • Making the body feel light, active, energetic • Stimulates antibody productions thus strengthening the immune system Shirodhara Shiro means head/forehead region and Dhara literally means flow - in this case with therapeutic oils. This traditional technique is quite powerful in its ability to relieve emotional and physical tension by working on the third eye (the center of the forehead). Shirodhara is a modern therapy based on an ancient Indian technique. The patient lies supine on a flat surface with head back and a rolled towel or pillow beneath the neck. A stream of warm oil is poured very slowly onto the center of the forehead (the location of the "third eye"), known as the window to the soul. The effect is indescribable. People emerge from this therapy with a new sense of tranquility that is reflected in a healthy glow as a free flow of energy emerges. Typically, the treatment lasts half an hour. Sesame or other base oil is blended with a few drops of aromatic essential oil to create the liquid. It is then warmed to a comfortable temperature and the treatment begins. he third eye is a vital marma and the chakra for mental

powers; it is not unusual for some people to find this a very powerful meditative experience. It is critical that the room be quite, clean and free of drafts. Shirodhara has over the generations been applied to treat various disorders of the head, neck, eyes, ears, nose and skin, throat and nervous system. It is specifically suited to ease any Vata imbalance located in the head and chest area. Wonderful also for Pitta issues, this treats cholesterol, enlarged prostate, ulcers and reduces heat from the systems. Some simple benefits are: • Provides deep mental and physical relaxation • Reduces insomnia • Helps treat asthma, allergies and rheumatism • Alleviates excess perspiration • Helps resolve mental conflict The combination of Abhyanga Marma Point Massage followed by Shirodhara is the a way of fighting back, of getting back to the natural rhythms of the earth, a means of warding off the effects of the modern day and keep us in touch with ourselves. These Ayurvedic Therapies are two of the best kept secretes that no longer needs to be kept. As a friend once said "anything that is good or valuable we retain... any thing that is irrelevant is lost or forgotten", as is true of a tradition that has not been forgotten after 5,000 years. How can you now not have any interest in locating a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or discovering a Spa/Resort that offers these Ayurvedic treatments, in order to lie down a nd close your mind to stress and anxiety and open it to a balanced mind, body and spirit. At this point you are probably asking which body type am I, if you want more help determining here is a self test you can visit to assist you further.

THE

POWERS OF

CHOICE Who wants life to be easy bravely confront reality keep dreaming you can never run away from self. By Michael White Ryan

Each of us has the ability to choose who and how we function in this world. And yet, every day repetition repeats itself, the fact we notice drives us crazy. In life we are constantly confronted by situations leaving our mindset facing various multiple choices, ending in a single choice. In keeping to an example, as simple as possible, lets agree in this moment, a choice is to be decided upon, and we only have two options, agreed. To my knowledge there exists three players. Option to choose (A) option to choose (B) and thirdly you and your free-will. In this example option (A) decision if chosen, you already know the outcome, and you know this from past experience, the past repeats. When choosing option (B) you’re not sure of the outcome as this effects your future, so there may be hesitation. Hesitation is a pattern already

living in your existing conscious behavior. This then also comes from the past but has the opportunity of creating a different future or a future that already exists from the past. In the middle is you, of course you are involved in both A and B choices. The third option is your free-will, this doesn’t come from the past or future, it exists in the present moment, commonly referred to as NOW. Free-will, reminds me of freewilly and Robin Williams. Hey guys if you haven’t seen “The Fisher King” do yourself a favor, it’s about our weakness, the male’s state of emotional entrapment. Moving along, free-will gives you the power to decide/choose NEW. If you choose A or B, you relive the past, commonly referred to as hell. If you choose from free-will then possible becomes probable, commonly referred to as I am in heaven.

45 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

The inability to choose, to remove ourselves from confusion, to not know what is necessary to be successful, basically created the training/seminar business. Consider for a moment the idea of creativity, those fortunate enough to be creative, the intellectuals tell us, they function from their “right brain”. When the majority of us make a choice, we come from knowledge, the logic left brain, hence the saying “we can only create who we are.” It’s a dilemma, a catch 22 in which way to turn. Diversity came and went, let’s face it, some of it was pretty scary, and yet I believe it has powerful meanings for us all. When choosing something new and different, the first thing to be considered, is this a pattern dressed up/disguised as a newbie. Next, did you eat your Popeye spinach today so your Courage can be a resource to support you as you move from repetition to free-will and make that newbie choice. The difficulty it seems, is how to escape from existing patterns of mindset thoughts. Mindset is part of who I am, and so was grade one schooling, therefore when I try to discard, escape from, pretend they don’t exist…I disrespect myself. The only option is to acknowledge that part of me, now move on to new horizons. Finding the courage not to think in a situation, but instead focus how do I feel, then you have an opportunity to function and choose differently. It may not be easy, but it is definitely possible. Because life constantly throws us a curved ball, we will always be flowing between our various states of being, it’s our personal evolution. It’s called, “what is the learned outcome”. No awareness, no change, then we repeat. Sometimes it’s far better to have someone else tells us if we’ve changed, as it can be difficult when standing to close to ourselves. Acceptance of who you have been, acceptance of who you are now is mandatory if you wish to move from states of conflict, confusion, doubt, shame, guilt and all the other 10,000 things we dump all over ourselves daily. Love, love and move into acceptance of all your conflicts, every single one of them. You are a powerful being with a free mind to do as you please, and go beyond anything that stands as a rock in in your path. BE and express a desire/intention towards the life you wish to live, that deep longing desire to discover who, what, when, how you can express the amazing essence, empowered presence of YOU! Mr. Silverback motivator will tell you to jump up and down, and it feels great, why, it’s a newbie. Then what, when you go back home look to find that which excites, 46 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

dig deep for those expressions which have laid hidden from childhood and you stand a chance of discovering you from the inside out. If not, you may continue following in the generalization footsteps of the masses and feel good knowing you are connected with many others. This unfortunately will be a loss of the rare individual you truly are. You hold in your hands, a gift so powerful, this gift of FREE-WILL that not even the gods have power over you, let alone some other two-legged creature. Mankind in all his/her glory has the power to choose between their past or their future. In doing so some past needs to be respected, this would be that which we deem sacred. A future evolves upon a foundation, that foundation is as a mother, protecting/supporting us every single moment we have breath. Understand this and your future is assured. Being mindful is a discipline, disciplines are foundations that all good is birthed from. Go out into the world and find your style. Blessed, we are!!!

How to stop Worrying By Nancy E. Yearout

48 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

49 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

I am intrigued with a book that I have been reading about how to stop worrying. I picked it up at an old book warehouse in Rockport Texas. This hard cover book that I paid $1.00 for was written in 1944 By Dale Carnegie. Yes, the same Dale Carnegie that wrote “How to wind friends and Influence People". He has included numerous heart felt stories from people of that day and how they learned to stopped worrying. As you read each person’s life story you begin to realize that there is no reason for anyone to worry. It seems they all learned, some early on and some later in life that worrying got them nowhere. They concluded that the worrying caused much havoc in their lives until they learned how not to. He said to instead do a good deed for another person every day. When you are busy helping others you will not have time to worry about yourself and life will fall into place. Your worries will disappear. He talks about the adverse health issues that occur when we worry. He discusses the energy that goes out into the world when you worry and its affects. He tells the stories of events that occurred in people’s lives. Events that made them realize that worrying did not get them anywhere. You begin to realize that you should count your blessings every day for what you have in your life and not for what don't have in your life. The doctors interviewed in the book explain that when you get angry and try to get even with someone that the anger hurts you physically by causing high blood pressure, heart trouble, stomach ulcers, and many other ailments. The doctors that Carnegie worked with said, “high blood pressure was caused by resentment!” Carnegie talks about how Jesus said to "Love your enemies". He explains that Jesus was teaching us good ethics, and how to keep our bodies healthy and vibrant. There are many profound quotes from the book. Here are a few I want to share with you: "Every day is a new day to a wise person" "Count your blessings not your troubles" "Think and act cheerful and you will feel cheerful" "For it is in the mind we see, and in the mind we live, whether we know it or not" "Prayer like radium is a source of luminous, self-generating energy" The book is still in print today and the lessons still apply: How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, By Dale Carnegie This book reminds me quite a bit about what I talk about in the book; Wake Up! The Universe is Speaking to You. 50 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Within its pages you will discover, how to use Universal Energy to your advantage. You will learn how to draw things to yourself by the energy of your thoughts, your words, faith and prayer. I also explain how negative energy can cause all kinds of havoc in your life if not cleared out. I bring to light the urgency to stay away from negative places and people. This exposer lowers our vibration and in turn lowers the immunity system in our bodies. This is very similar to what Carnegie was telling us about worry. The result of long term exposure to negative vibrations causes illness within in your body. This unwanted energy can also throw you off your life path. It seems the message has not changed after all this time. Pay attention to your thoughts, your word and your surroundings. We are made up of energy and the energy of worry can affect your health. Take every day as it comes and be grateful for what we grow!

How Many Missions Do You Have? By Mark Thurston

An excerpt from Discovering Your Soul’s Purpose

53 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Are you a busy person whose life is full of responsibilities and demands? Is almost every day packed with multiple tasks and challenges? If so, then the idea of a solitary mission may seem foreign. You might expect boredom if your life is focused on just one spiritual task. Since you are already accustomed to juggling several balls daily, why not take on many soul purposes? After all, more spiritual growth can be accomplished that way, right? The Cayce life readings shed some light on this riddle. First, we should keep in mind that ultimately we all have only one purpose in life. It can be stated in a variety of ways, but it is essentially the same: • To bring love consciously into the physical world • To make the infinite finite • To know ourselves to be ourselves, yet one with God Second, the Cayce readings propose that each soul chooses just before birth a customized and specific mission that relates to the universal purpose. It’s customized because it fits the needs and the abilities of that soul; it’s specific because it focuses on certain ways of serving and creating. However, you have many meaningful experiences that don’t exactly conform to your mission statement. There are many supplemental opportunities to serve and create throughout your life. As an analogy, consider what happens if you marry. You make a commitment to love a particular man or woman, but marriage doesn’t eliminate relationships with others. There are many ways of lovingly interacting with people that are not romantic. For example, a woman may be devoted to her husband and still love other men. The way she expresses her love and caring to the other men will be different than to her husband, but marriage doesn’t necessarily cut off other ways of reaching out. In the same way, the mission you have chosen as a soul is not the only way you will serve and create in the world during your life- time. There are likely to be many additional approaches. So your life will probably continue with many balls to be juggled. The Cayce readings suggest that some of the issues have to do with karmic problems you’re trying to overcome in this lifetime. Other focal points involve new talents you’re attempting to develop for later in this lifetime—and

54 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

for those willing to entertain the concept of reincarnation, perhaps to develop in another incarnation. And yet, in the analogy of juggling, one ball corresponds to your mission in life. Finding your soul’s purpose doesn’t mean that you drop all the other balls and keep just one in the air. Certain balls may take on a special importance— you might want to toss them up a little higher than the rest—but all of them are meaningful experiences for you. This conclusion leaves another problem unanswered. Can a soul’s purpose change in the midst of one lifetime? Do we ever fulfill a mission before one life ends and therefore qualify to take on a new one? This is a genuine possibility. From a spiritual angle life is continuous and so the milestones we call birth and death are somewhat arbitrary. There is no reason why a mission couldn’t extend well beyond one lifetime—or, for that matter, be fulfilled in less than one lifetime and prepare the soul to take on a new direction. Going public with your personal growth By Anne Tucker

Most of us are funny about our weaknesses. We want to keep them secret. We have the mistaken idea that publicly admitting our growth areas makes us vulnerable, when in fact it can make us much, much stronger. Why don’t we want to share our development areas? Because if we do – how embarrassing – everyone will know! Here’s the uncomfortable truth –despite your best efforts to put your best face forward, everyone already knows. Some people may know you better than others, but on some level, the people around you have a pretty good sense for your strengths and weaknesses. Even the checker at the grocery store has the opportunity to observe that you are a little controlling, or indecisive, or disorganized, or maybe a little too blunt sometimes. So when you acknowledge your development areas, you aren’t telling people anything new. You are just letting them know that you know it, too. 56 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

There is a powerful reason for going public with your growth areas. When you tell people what you are working on and how you plan to do it, you enlist them in your transformation. Not only do they become a support system, but you’ve put them on alert to start looking for changes. They are much more likely to notice your increasing self-awareness and growth if they are looking for it, which means you start enjoying some of the benefits of self-improvement much faster. On the other hand, if you take your personal growth agenda into your cave and keep it secret, you can be making huge efforts to improve and no one is going to notice. Not for months. People are much too busy sorting through email and putting out their own fires to really look at each other. Once people have formed an opinion about your strengths and weaknesses, they file it away and don’t think about you anymore. Even if you are behaving differently, they’ll just assume it was something you ate and that you’ll be back to your normal self tomorrow. When you are working hard to change and no one notices, it can be really discouraging. A dear friend of mine started a diet but wouldn’t tell anyone because she wanted to keep her left-over baby weight a secret. She thought that if people knew she was on a diet they would suddenly become aware that she had some extra pounds. She was making progress, and after two months she was feeling healthier and her clothes were fitting better. The problem was, no one noticed. Not one person. She began to feel like it wasn’t working, that noticeable progress would take forever, and she gradually lost her motivation. Several months later, some co-workers started a diet pool. It was easier for my friend to join because everyone was doing it, so she didn’t feel like she was admitting to being overweight. The interesting thing was, this time around, everyone knew she was on a diet, and everyone was looking to notice her progress. She was encouraged and complimented all the time. Her coworkers even held her accountable when there were donuts in the conference room. She stuck with it, and has still kept the weight off. If you are trying to grow as a person, tell people what you are working on. Tell them what your development area is and what you are planning to do to improve. Not only will this create a support system for your change effort, but people will be looking for your changes and be open to thinking about you differently. Best of all, you’ll start to benefit from your efforts much faster because your new vision of yourself will be reflected back to you by the people in your life.

Here’s a challenge for you. Think of something about yourself that is holding you back that you want to change or improve. Think through who you can enlist in your change effort and tell them about it! If you’re ready to shift your own personal growth into high gear, you’ll get amazing insights about the strengths and weaknesses of how you think and solve problems according to your own personal soul type in my new book, Undoubtedly Awesome. Now, with your focus centered in your heart, follow my words as we journey to that moment when you took your first breath upon this world. Feel yourself there in that sacred moment. Yes My Beloveds, you were in such joy at your time of birth. Although being in a body was a new experience for you and required you to learn how to be, you were in joy. You had the full awareness of your truth and were in great delight that your time to experience life on Earth had begun. Take some more gentle breaths and feel the truth of these words. Feel into that moment of great joy at your arrival, the beginning of the dreams of your heart.

As you focus on your first breaths in a body, feel into that joy. Tune into it with your intention. Feel the sweetness of love that filled you to over filled ness. Joy is your divine nature. Even though you began an adventure of discovery how to be “you” in a body, you still knew joy. With that joy, you also had full awareness of yourself, your divine nature, the truth of you and of all that is. Take another focused breath and feel with your heart into these truths.

My Beloved Children of Heart, “Yes, it is our special time once again. I celebrate with you as we walk upon the pathways of light together. Indeed it is a time to celebrate. What unfolds for us now can be considered a great marvel. What you are offered today in your perfect timing is of such splendor. It will certainly delight your hearts. Today we embark upon a journey of the heart. Let me take you back to a defining moment in your past. First, place your hand on your heart and take in a breath of air. Relax, and now breathe out. Do this three times, relaxing more into your heart with each breath

Ah, the joy of life filled you with such excitement at the infinite possibilities that lay before you. You knew it was going to be amazing. Your knowing self was not attached to time and knew that during your journey, you would at some point fully remember yourself. Feel the sweetness of this as you began breathing life into your beautiful little body. As you now are experiencing the pleasure of life, you are filled with such joyfulness. Your heart turns to gratitude for this gift from the Creator. Now as this moment in the past has made a new imprint for you to reflect upon, the threads of remembering are strengthened. Take a moment to allow these words to be accepted into your conscious awareness. Now take another breath, breathing into your heart and center back into the present moment. Feel yourself now wherever you are, comfortably becoming aware of your surroundings. 59 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Can Whole Body

Vibration Increase Income? By Becky Chambers What if you could light up your brain - become more creative, productive, focused, motivated? Suddenly write that proposal, brief, or marketing idea, and do it brilliantly! Come up with new creative solutions to the problems stymying your business, and implement them with incisive verve! If there was a way to instantly wake up your brain to its nearly unlimited potential‌ you would leap on it‌. So jump on a whole body vibration (WBV) machine and wake up that sleepy brain! When you are standing on the vibrating plate of a WBV machine, every neuron in your body will automatically shoot signals through your body and into your brain at the same rate that the machine is vibrating, 20-50 times per second. This massive neurological stimulation triggers a cascade of beneficial effects for your nervous system. Immediate effects include rapidly rising levels of two neurotransmit-

62 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

ters, molecules in your brain that are essential to communication between neurons. The first, serotonin, is a neurotransmitter in your brain that contributes to sounder sleep and feelings of mastery, pleasure, and relaxation. This is the same neurotransmitter that is targeted by prescription antidepressant drugs such as Prozac and Wellbutrin, as well as many street drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and Ecstasy. WBV is a natural, safe, rapid, nonaddictive, and legal way to increase serotonin. The second, norepinephrine, is both a neurotransmitter and a hormone, and low levels of this essential molecule have been linked to depression and low energy. Norepinephrine (along with epinephrine) underlies the fightor-flight response, giving the body sudden energy in times of stress. It increases the heart rate, triggers the release of glucose from energy stores, increases blood flow to skeletal muscles and oxygen supply to the brain, and can suppress nerve inflammation.

Studies done on rats have shown rapid increases in serotonin levels with WBV. 1 Although physical measurements of brain serotonin levels can only be done in animals (as brain tissue samples must be taken), anecdotal evidence of increased serotonin and norepinephrine levels with WBV in humans is strong. Hundreds of my clients, and many thousands of users around the world, report rapid and dramatic improvements in mood, energy, and sleep within days of beginning vibration. As of July of 2017, Googling “whole body vibration improves mood” resulted in 660,000 hits. My clients also report increased motivation, focus, and activity levels. In addition, exercise has been shown to be the most important factor for brain health, leading to increased neural cell growth and strength. In fact, the latest research is that nothing helps your brain develop and stay healthy more than exercise. A 2012 New York Times magazine article, “Jogging Your Brain,” states, “For more than a decade, neuroscientists and physiologists have been gathering evidence of the beneficial relationship between exercise and brainpower. But the newest findings make it clear that this isn’t just a relationship; it is the relationship. . . . Exercise, the latest neuroscience suggests, does more to bolster thinking than thinking does.” 2 Neurogenesis is the creation of new neurons in the brain and throughout the body. This was once thought to happen only before birth, but it is now known that, at a slower pace, neurogenesis in at least the brain does continue throughout life. Neurogenesis allows for brain “plasticity,” meaning that the brain can continue to grow and change throughout life, making new neural connections that allow you to not only learn new skills and knowledge but also to increase your ability to learn, think creatively, and change. Research showing this connection between exercise and the brain has primarily been done with aerobic exercise. However, similar neurological and muscular processes are involved with weightlifting-type exercises, to which whole body vibration is most similar. Perhaps WBV, with its massive neurological stimulation, will eventually be found to stimulate brain development even more effectively than other forms of exercise. I can personally testify as to the benefits of whole body vibration for your brain. I spent forty years telling people that I couldn’t write, that I had terrible writer’s block and was too depressed and repressed to write. This was true, for forty years. Writing was a nightmare, to the extent that I dropped out of a high-school course

64 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

because I had to write a term paper and I majored in biology at college, because I liked the subject but also because you didn’t have to write papers. Despite exercise, good schools, and interventions of many types, I didn’t improve for many years. But from the time I started vibrating about 12 years ago with the best type of whole body vibration (see previous articles, my website, and/or my books) I have written two books and many articles. And as one of those books is the best-selling book in the United States on this worldwide booming health and wellness system, I am happy to say that my once abysmal financial picture has brightened considerably. If you too would like to increase your creativity, productivity, learning potential, and income, I recommend you vibrate your way to success. M. Ariizumi and A. Okada, “Effect of Whole Body Vibration on the Rat Brain Content of Serotonin and Plasma Corticosterone,” European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology 52, no. 1 (1983): 15–9.

Important Surprises from Science By P. M. H. Atwater, L.H.D.

Sometimes from the most unexpected places comes news that is mind-blowing. Scoot over Harry Potter, science is the magician now. Here are two recent findings that challenge what we think we know about our world and the workings of our own brain. TIME CRYSTALS EXIST AND WE CAN CREATE THEM Initial Announcement: Two teams of researchers, one from Harvard University and the other from the University of Maryland, had their peer-reviewed work on time crystals published in the journal Nature. The Harvard-based team used an experimental setup that created an artificial lattice in a synthetic diamond. The Maryland team, on the other hand, continued on their previous work using a chain of charged particles called ytterbium ions. Both studies built off of time crystal theories developed from Princeton University. Unlike other, more conventional crystals, time crystals

66 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

are lattices that repeat not just in space, but also in time, breaking what is known as time-translation symmetry. A time crystal is a quantum phenomenon that has movement while remaining in its ground, or lowest energy state. In other words, it moves without spending energy and does not settle into a thermal equilibrium. These two teams were, since early this year, developing ways to actually create time crystals. Their published works further confirm that time crystals can exist – with one possible application: a new phase of matter for protecting information in quantum computers. https://futurism.com/physicists-time-crystals-existand-we-can-create-them/ What this means: We are now long past theory, as the first time crystal ever was created last October, proving that we can create crystals made up entirely of TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they are a potential tool for protecting information in quantum computers. But, they are much more.

67 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

Hang with me on this. Within the hologram is another form of matter we can use to create. . . time crystals. We live in a holographic universe. Everything that moves, talks, sounds, motion, noise, all created things, all energy – including time – are emanations from edges of 2-D reality, a single source of information that has the ability, the power to outpicture thought. We now have the ability to create “science.” Time crystals are a “new-to-us” form of matter, just discovered in 2016, just invented and used in 2017. This explodes our ability to process and encode all aspects of 3-D reality. Imagine: infinite storage of infinite knowledge from infinite creation, infinitely. We are there! We discovered the “how” by recognizing the what and why of the hologram of infinity, of existence. In essence, we are the hologram’s outpicturing. Nothing is real as we define real. We are like actors on a stage, responding to a rhythm and pulse beyond what we can define or imagine. Time crystals enable us to use and to store the emanation we are. We can do this by stepping outside the system, bypassing what appears to be matter, by creating/forming a time-based matter system that encapsulates what forms and maintains the hologram. Pay attention to what science does with this. By creating a time crystal, a new form of matter has just been discovered – and is now being used. The Human Brain Can Access 11 Dimensions What Has Recently Been Discovered: Using mathematics in a novel way in neuroscience, the Blue Brain Project demonstrates that the brain operates on many dimensions, not just the 3 dimensions we are accustomed to. They have uncovered a universe of multidimensional geometrical structures and spaces within the networks of the brain – up to eleven dimensions. The research, published June 12, 2017 in Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience, shows that these structures arise when a group of neurons forms a clique: each neuron connects to every other neuron in the group in a very specific way that generates a precise geometric object. The more neurons there are in a clique, the higher the dimension of the geometric object. “We found a world that we had never imagined,” says neuroscientist Henry Markram, director of Blue Brain Project and professor at the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. “There are tens of millions of these objects even in a small speck of the brain, up through seven dimensions. In some networks, we even found structures with up to eleven dimensions.” This finding shows that the brain constantly 68 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

requires building networks with as many high-dimensional structures as possible. “It’s as if the brain reacts to a stimulus by building then razing a tower of multi-dimensional blocks, starting with rods (1D), then planks (2D), then cubes (3D), and then more complex geometries with 4D, 5D, etc. The progression of activity through the brain resembles a multi-dimensional sandcastle that materializes out of the sand and then disintegrates.” Upshot: “This may explain why it has been so hard to understand the brain,” notes Markram. “The mathematics usually applied to study networks cannot detect the high-dimensional structures and spaces that we now see clearly.” http://neurosciencenews.com/blue-brain-neural-network-6885/ Science has at last verified a timeless truth: We are multi-dimensional beings, with multi-dimensional brains that enable us to accommodate the multi-dimensional aspects of our inner and outer worlds and of creation itself.

Bring Hollywood Home Foundation’s Musical Benefit Photos by TracySaundersArt.com

On July 14th, at the Historic Harvelle’s Nightclub in Santa Monica, CA was where Bring Hollywood Home Foundation’s Musical Benefit took place to celebrate increasing California’s Tax Credit Incentives to keep Film & TV Production & Post-Production jobs in California. Bring Hollywood Home Foundations is a non-profit organization with a mission to fight for jobs, to stop job outsourcing and to bring film and TV production and post-production back to California. Bring Hollywood Home has written legislation (includes a 30% incentive for independent productions up to $10M) led by co-founding advisory board member Bob Jimenez, that would give independent filmmakers a chance to work in California and be able to access the same kind of tax credits they get when they go to out of state to Georgia, Louisiana, New York and other states, that are far more generous to independent productions. "We at Bring Hollywood Home believe there is a great deal more to be done in California to create an even playing field for independent and women and minority led small and medium sized production companies. Breaking the code here in the state where Hollywood was invented, has been our challenge since 2010, when we founded the first lobby non-profit, to represent those filmmakers now underrepresented in tax credits. Bring Hollywood Home is led by public policy professionals and independent filmmakers with a passion for fairness and first amendment rights." Arthritis Traced To PastLife Actions By Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt

Are physical and mental illnesses the result of karma acquired in a past life, and if so, does uncovering that lifetime lead to healing? That is what I set out to prove during a yearlong research project. Fifty volunteers, ranging in age from 34 to 74, participated in the project, coming in with such conditions as diabetes; heart disease; leg, back and foot pain; liver and kidney issues; head-related concerns; mental and emotional issues; drug and alcohol abuse; weight and digestive problems; and even sexual concerns. Employing past-life regression and augmenting the session with soul writing, i.e. writing in an altered state of consciousness, the project sought to find the buried past-life story behind the present-day malady. The results were fascinating. During the course of that study, I met Gary, a 68-year-old Navy veteran and defense contractor who was complaining of arthritis in his thumbs. His session was so compelling that he was included as one of 23 case studies highlighted in my latest book, Karma Can Be a Real Pain: Past Life Clues to Current Life Maladies. 72 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e August 2017

At the start of our session, I asked Gary to do a body scan to determine whether he felt any sensitivity, discomfort or birthmarks in a particular part of his body. Body scans often preview conditions that come up in the regression and they enable the participant to focus on areas in their body where they have experienced repeated problems. Gary’s body scan brought up the memory of a wound in the back of his thigh, as well as wounds above his digestive organs on the right side and a punctured right lung. He also recalled injuries to both thumbs and said his right thumb was tingling. This was an important piece of information, given what he would uncover during the regression. While under hypnosis, Gary went to a Civil War past life in Virginia where he saw himself as a 35-year-old man named John who was an officer in the 32nd Virginia Infantry with men under his command. The significant event in that life occurred during an early battle. “I’m on horseback,” he recalled. “My saber is drawn during a skirmish. I struck the hand of my (Union Calvary) opponent and severed his thumb. We would fire our pistols first and then we would resort to sabers. I tried to hit the hands of opponents rather than the body [so they] can’t ride, hold guns or wield a saber.” John dies a year later as the result of a gunshot wound to his chest. Gary’s case is an example of physical karma that is a direct reflection of a past-life act. John drew his saber and struck the hand of his opponent, severing his thumb. In this life, Gary has arthritis in both thumb joints. He clearly saw the correlation between the two. “Yes, I do feel that the pain in both my right and left thumb joints are due to my past-life practice of intentionally injuring the thumbs/fingers of my opponents while fighting them with sabers,” he admitted. “At present, I have experienced arthritis in no other part of my body, though I am now a 68- year-old disabled veteran. I feel this is a karmic debt I am now facing due to my past life’s view of how I would fight, intentionally wounding or disabling opponents with saber strokes aimed at their fingers and hands.” Gary’s revelation that his current chronic condition stemmed from actions in a prior lifetime was echoed by the other volunteers in this research project. The

participants were all respected in careers that ranged from university professor to nurse to aerospace contractor— not the sort you would expect to make up incredulous tales of the past. Many who came to the project were skeptical of the validity of past lives, but upon meeting their past-life aspects and discovering the karmic origin of their chronic condition, they embarked on a healthier, happier life. Statistically, the results of the project were encouraging. Within three months of the session, 17-percent of the 23 individuals highlighted in the book, reported a complete healing while 30-percent reported their condition improved substantially. Gary was in the 35-percentile group that said nothing had changed after our session. Even so, all who said their condition neither improved nor worsened admitted that their attitude about their condition had shifted as a result of their regression. Just knowing and source of their malady was, in and of itself, a healing experience. Like everyone in the research project, Gary was enthused about the healing potential of past-life regression. “It would be nice if medical science and organized religion would be more accepting of past-life experiences and of karmic debt incurred by our past-life actions,” he said. “It is good that you do such research in these fields. We need more of it.”
