WELCOME

WHY GALLATIN... BERETTA,

at 490 years old, is the oldest family-owned company in the world. Their longevity is a testament to their mission of “Quality Without Compromise”. Like all proud companies, Beretta protects its image. When they made a decision to relocate their only U.S. manufacturing operation, they chose Gallatin. Beretta still maintains its ancestral operations in Italy, but now these firearms – from rifles to handguns, including arms for the American military – are also made in Gallatin, Tennessee.

“Everything we were looking for we found in Gallatin.”

“Tennessee Promise Inspires National Trend” - USA TODAY NETWORK, Feb. 9, 2017 Gov. Bill Haslam and his advisers like to say that Tennessee Promise changed the conversation parents and children have about going to college. Three years after he introduced the landmark scholarship program, it’s conversations in statehouses around the country that are changing, placing the Volunteer State at the center of a national movement. In 2014, Tennessee was the only state with a wide-reaching program that offered recent high school graduates the chance to go to community college without paying tuition. Since then, several states — including Oregon, New York and Rhode Island — have followed that example, adopting or pursuing similar programs of their own. Experts say Tennessee’s role as a trendsetter could help shape higher education policy for years as students move through the pipeline, exposing the strengths and weaknesses of the increasingly popular model. The state’s move to expand tuition-free college to adult students . . . seems certain to keep Tennessee at the forefront of the education debate.

EDUCATION

First-time freshman enrollment in public higher education up by 13% since Tennessee Promise began accepting applications in 2014.

VOL STATE MECHATRONICS PROGRAM Volunteer State Community College (VSCC) tops the state in workforce training hours, providing 121,639 hours in 2016 – that’s 22% of the entire state total among all the Tennessee Board of Regents colleges and universities. The training programs match company culture with employee knowledge and skills base.

EDUCATION

• Classes for Volunteer State Community College’s new mechatronics degree program start this fall. • Graduates of the newly established Mechatronics Technology program will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. • They will also be afforded the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Certification Examination to become a Siemens Certified Mechatronics Systems Associate.

Mechatronics isn’t just a program for traditional “students, it’s a program with multiple entry and exit

points to accommodate non-traditional students, too. Workers already in the field who need to refine their skills can access the program.

WELCH COLLEGE, a 72-year-old institution, moved its residential-college campus to Gallatin, opening to 800 students in March of 2017. Welch offers 40 four-year degree programs, has a 10:1 student/teacher ratio, and requires its students to provide community service. The City has a tremendously successful partnership with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). This year alone, we’re working on more than $57-million in transportation projects, including center turn lanes in our industrial areas, a 5-lane bypass around north Gallatin, and widening SR 109 to five lanes from the new Cumberland River Bridge to Airport Road which is a main artery into Gallatin’s industrial community.

EXCESS UTILITY CAPACITY

INFRASTRUCTURE

A key dynamic that helps Gallatin streamline processes for you to locate here is that the City owns its utilities – electric, gas, water and sewer. The Gallatin Department of Electricity (GDE) and the Gallatin Public Utilities (GPU) partner with the Economic Development Agency to meet needs and overcome obstacles.

“GPU understands what it takes to operate as a “good

neighbor” and considers itself a critical asset, an anchor institution in the community. GPU will continue to be that anchor by demonstrating the attributes of a successfully managed utility.

David Gregory, Superintendent Gallatin Public Utilities

Drinking Water – Gallatin’s water treatment and distribution plant sits on the banks of the Cumberland River capacity to pump up to 16-million gallons per day (mgd). The current average demand is 6 mgd. Wastewater Treatment – On the other end of the spectrum, GPU’s wastewater treatment plant has the capacity to treat more than 12.5 mgd with a wet weather capacity at 30 mgd. Current average daily flow for wastewater is 5.5 mgd. Natural Gas – Usage capacity daily delivery of 22,000 million cubic feet (mcf). The average natural gas consumption in winter is 9,000 mcf. You can see GPU has infrastructure in place to grow and accommodate new manufacturing.
