As a CRNA your job will be to administer the anesthesia and watch the patient to make sure they are okay. The average annual salary for a nurse anesthetist is $100,000 or more. So it is well worth it for anyone wishes to be in this career field. However, it is not an easy journey to get to this level. It takes a lot of hard work and it starts with what you are doing in high school. Get a head start by taking math, science and health classes while you are in high school. If you can, during your senior year try to take a few college courses. Now once you get in college your first line of business will be to obtain your Bachelors Of Science in Nursing or BSN. Try to keep your GPA at a decent level. Competition to get into anesthetist graduate programs is really tough so you have to make sure you can stand out any way you can. Once you get your Bachelors degree you will need to get licensed as registered nurse and work in that field for a couple years. This is to help you gain experience and prepare you for the next level which is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Of course the amount of time that you will be required to work as a registered nurse will depend on what CRNA program you want to get into. Before you can get into any graduate program you must first take the Graduate Record Examination or GRE. Once you have taken the exam you can apply for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist graduate program. It is a good idea to apply for more then one program. This way you will have more then one option if your first on doesn't come through. Next you will have to attend an interview where you will be asked all sorts of questions about why you want to be a CRNA. Once you get passed the interview process you will be offered admittance into the program. Please know that there is usually a waiting list for students trying to get into these programs.
