The Sweet LifeSTYLE Welcome to the August Issue of Marvelous Mode. This was such a fun issue to create. And it will get your taste buds running and imagination for mode going. This issue is dedicated to CANDY. I was watching Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and when Bow Wow Wow comes on with “I Want Candy” the idea was born. Candy can be sweet, tangy, sour, hot and good. When you hear someone talk about the Sweet Life it means a life that is fulfilling. Without fashion life would be dull. Barbie Mode The original Barbie came out in the 1950s. She was uber chic and my fav. Her black & white bathing suit has been copied many times over. My mom gave me her original 1950s Barbie and Ponytail set case. I have played with since a girl and that was my first introduction to fashion. Here from the www.houseofretro.com I found a 1961 Barbie Booklet. Barbie was a true high fashion plate during that era. And the original Barbie was strawberry blonde. In this issue I took inspiration from my childhood loves of candy and Barbie and applied it to modern looks. Enjoy!

Cover Look
The first ever Barbie is my fav Barbie of all time. She was hot hot hot. And she was more believable. The Retro 1950s look is back and so it is fitting to recreate her famous makeup look. These are the products I used. - Revlon Colorstay Eye makeup in Wild Sauvage (use the light base all over eye including a little on bottom. The teal goes on lid. Here’s a great tip use the brown shadow & little of the orange for the brow) - Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner in Black Out. Barbie did not have the fish tail at end. Just create a medium thick line on lid. - Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Matte in Sultry Samba & Carnival spirit. I first used the Carnival red orange as a base and then used the hot pink Sultry Samba on top. This created a fantastic Punch color for bright lips. - It Tightline Waterproof Mascara Full Lash. This mascara gives amazing length to lashes. - Besame Creme Rouge in Crimson. Love Besame. This is the best Rouge for Retro looks. Can also use as a lipstick. Barbie had light cheeks so go easy with this.

Futuristic Retro This look was inspired by Barbie, 1980s New Wave and Modern Mavens. Here are the products I used. Revlon Colorstay Eye Shadow in Exotic Exotique. I used the lightest color all over eye. Then the yellow on the lid and crease. Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner in Electric Blue. This time I did a long fish tail with a little liner on bottom lid at corner. Senna Cosmetics Sheer Face Color Powder Blush in Moonberry. Just a dusting and blended well. Senna Cosmetics Voluptulash in Black. Creates nice thick lashes. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Pearl in Ipanema. This line of lipstick is truly moisturizing and light but gives alot of color.

CC+ SPF 50 in Fair - This is a breakthrough in foundations. It’s alot of coverage but feels nice on the skin. What I love about this line is that it does something good for skin while you wear it. And for women this is a must. Heavy cosmetics can damage skin. But It has paved the way for the future of cosmetics. It gives luminous glow but it does not look shinny. Also, their Fair has nice color to it and does not look pastey. The foundation brush is a miracle to put on a smooth application. I used this foundation for the Barbiefied & Futuristic Retro look. marvelous mode

Fiery Copper Sands was a true surprise in the beautiful copper hair color it gave. This rich Amber hued red copper is GORGEOUS! The Precision Foam formula is very easy to use. Their onsite video How To’s were very helpful. I also tried out the Color Refreshing Gloss for Warm Reds. This product is a must have for at home Red hair colors. Reds unfortunately fade. Someone really needs to create an at home color that does not fade. Hint Hint. The color gloss is again easy to use and really gives the color more sparkle. Both are excellent products. I have been testing alot of at home hair colors for Reds and this so far is my fav for the brilliant golds it brings out. So many Hair Coloring systems use to much brown in their base when most natural red heads are golden copper based. John Freida marvelous mode gets copper colors.

This month I was focused on color with a glow. I chose products that gave me a color, hydration, protection and oilation. So many skin care lines are focused on getting rid of oil but the skin needs a certain amount to look fresh. As women mature their pH balances and they don’t need to strip so much oil away. Oil can give your skin a glow.
Here are the picks for skin care products in August. Vita Liberata 3 week Tan Mousse in Fair - By far the best self tanner on the market. It gave me a golden glow. Not a fake orange look. But an actual tan color to the skin. It does not have the self tanner smell either. It dries quickly and the tan produces over time. Using the application mit was extremely helpful and protects your hands. And this product is buildable. I found the fair to give alot of color which was awesome. June Jacobs Intense Age Defying Hydrating Complex SPF 25 - This is a lovely facial sunscreen. It left my skin soft and protected. Nice light scent and did not clog pores. Best thing is it did hydrate. Leonor Greyl Paris Huile Secret De Beaute - Beyond amazing product. If you have not tried this line of hair and skin care then DO! This oil based spray for hair and skin is a wonder. The scent it leaves is light sexy and reviving. I use it on my neck and dĂŠcolletage almost every day. French hair & skin care companies seem to approach taking care of oneself as a must not a vanity. They do not look at maturity with snubbed noses but treat it as a privilege. Therefore they seem to have products that really work.

Nailed It I love getting a mani pedi. It’s one the most and best girly things we ladies can do. But... we don’t always have time or funds for such niceties. So we do it at home. I love to try products for at home or taking to the salon. Revlon nails are probably my go to nail color line. I always get so many compliments when I use Revlon colors.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Enamel in Hot Hand & Jokers Wild. This product is a revolution in nail enamel. It is color and base. I did not use any base or top coat and it looks as though I did. It has left my nails strong and polished. And the colors are fantastic. The pink is a rich candy pink while the orange is a sherbet color. Ok, the coolest things almost ever! If you are into small space living like so many Urbanites then these new ideas are fantastic! Murphy Beds or wall beds have made a chic come back. During the early part of the 20th century apartments in New York installed these for space saving and then they went by the way side. Now they are better and posher!
