Martlets Mail Spring and Summer 2013 Welcome Welcome to our latest newsletter, it’s certainly been a long winter for us all but hopefully by the time you read this Spring will have sprung ... This edition of Martlets Mail has all the latest on our services and I believe really does show that your support makes a huge difference. I’ve been so inspired by the ways in which people raise money for us that I felt we had to tell you some of their stories, from Chris pushing his Uncle Andrew round Brighton Marathon to Rebecca’s Mum who made a beautiful miniature florist. It’s all in here; if you’ve got your own story to tell please do get in touch. Don’t miss this year’s beautiful open gardens and if you’ve been meaning to make a change in your Will, now’s the time. We’re running our Will Writing Fortnight again in May, the back cover has all the information. Thank you so much for your continued support – we really couldn’t do this without you.

Latest News Music Quiz Novembers Music Quiz raised over £6,000 for the Martlets – a big thank you to everyone involved, our host Mark Little said: “Another brilliant night at The Martlets Music Quiz. Robert Griffiths excelled as the quiz master. Full house and great funds raised for The Martlets. Everyone’s a winner....except all those who lost. See you next year.

Can you help? Can you help us to unlock more support from livery companies and charitable trusts. We are appealing to all our readers to let us know if you are or if you know someone who is a liveryman or a trustee of a charitable trust. We are always

looking to develop relationships with more trusts and liveries and it greatly helps our approaches if we can find someone who might be willing to make an introduction for us. Please contact our trusts fundraiser Gary Moyle if you might be able to help us on 01273 747455.

Saying goodbye Roger French has been the Martlets Chair of Trustees for nearly nine years, in April he stood down as chairman. Caroline, Martlets Hospice Chief Executive, said “Roger has been a tireless ambassador and wonderful supporter for the Martlets. He has been an inspirational and charismatic leader, and has led the Hospice through many challenging situations. Through his role as Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Buses, he has been extremely generous in allowing us to promote the work of the Hospice on the buses themselves. Roger will be sorely missed and on behalf of everyone associated with the Martlets we wish him a very long and happy retirement.” Roger said “It’s been an absolute privilege to be Chairman of such a wonderful organisation for the last nine years and see at first hand the dedicated work by the whole Martlets team and

the amazing support of the army of volunteers. I have learnt so much from these fantastic examples of selfless service and I am so grateful to everyone for their friendship and support and making my involvement so enjoyable. Thanks also to my colleague Trustees for all their support. I’m looking forward to continuing to help the Martlets in its vital work in the coming years whenever I can.” Details of Roger’s successor as Chair of the Hospice will be announced shortly.
