Martensville City Council Holds Last Meeting of the Month
Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger
Martensville City Council held their final meeting of the month on Tuesday, October 15th. The meeting began with a delegation from Doug Borsa, who was representing the residents of Aspen Parke Estates in Lake Vista.
Borsa spoke to Council regarding concerns that Aspen Parke Estates residents have over the persistent use of unregistered off-road vehicles, particularly within their area along 10th Avenue North.
“These vehicles pose significant safety risks to our community due to their excessive speed, noise pollution, reckless driving (on streets and sidewalks) and the involvement of underage drivers with some who fail to wear helmets. The impact on residents, especially those in the northeast corner of the city, is substantial and ongoing,” the letter to Council from Aspen Parke Estates residents, stated.
The letter requested that City Council take action to help address this problem, suggesting that they revise bylaws to prohibit the operation of unregistered off-road vehicles within city limits, increase enforcement in affected areas and prioritize safety
The October 15th meeting also consisted of two discretionary use requests that were brought back for approval from last week. One was for Wag Martensville Daycare and Boarding who are looking to move into a larger location at 910 8th Street South and the other for New Feathers Industrial to operate a welding shop at 800 Centennial Drive North.
The final item on the agenda was regarding a proposed Patron Code of Conduct, which would replace the existing Zero Tolerance in City Facilities/Parks Policy. The policy was shared with user groups and customer-facing work groups of municipal facilities for feedback in September with no additional feedback received. This policy was created to help create clear and concise expectations of patrons in municipal facilities.
The next Martensville City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 4th in Council Chambers at City Hall beginning at 5pm. More information on City Council can be found by visiting www.martensville.ca.

Lions Club Supports Food Pantry Over Thanksgiving Weekend
Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger
The Martensville & District Lions Club held a BBQ at the Martensville Co-op Grocery Store in Martensville from October 11-13 in support of the Martensville Food Pantry.
The public was encouraged to bring a donation of non-perishable food items or a monetary donation and then receive a hot dog or burger and a drink.
Donations of soup, crackers, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, pork and beans, rice, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and nut-free children’s snack items were some of the ideas suggested by the Lions Club.
The Martensville Food Pantry helps ensure local families have regular access to food at no cost and is able to provide this service thanks to the support of local residents, businesses and community groups like the Lions Club.
Let’s help re-stock the shelves at the Martensville Food Pantry following a busy Thanksgiving with over 40 food hampers provided to area residents. For more information on how you can ‘Help Halt Hunger Here at Home’, contact martensvillefoodpantry@gmail.com or (306) 280-1255.

Inaugural Game at MRC Ends in a Win for U16AA Marauders

The U16AA Martensville Marauders were honored to be the first to host the inaugural game in the new Martensville Recreation Centre against the PA Renegades on Saturday, October 12th that ended with a win of 8-2.
All the players lined up on the ice with Jeff Oblander starting the afternoon off welcoming everyone to the beautiful new arena.
“The Martensville Recreation Centre is the result of a decade of dedication from volunteers, coaches, athletes, user groups and Indigenous communities to help bridge Martensville’s love of sports, recreation and community events. Once the MRC is complete, it will be home to an additional leisure ice surface, indoor batting cages, a pitching tunnel, a full indoor soccer pitch as well as a place to host year-round activities in our community,” he stated.
A ceremonial first puck drop followed, with MCRP member Ahlana Ehalt, Broden Wotherspoon, Ryland McConnell, and Easton Woytiuk joining everyone on the ice.
“Ehalt is one of the hard-working group of people who helped get us here today. She is a MCRP member and the Lace’Em Up co-chair.”
“Wotherspoon was the captain of the 2023-2024 15AA Marauders provincial champions. Woytiuk and McConnell were the alternate captains. Some of their faces will look familiar as they were part of the original ad campaign for the Martensville Recreation Centre. The vision of the U16AA Marauders is to play at that next level, and these three boys have all found homes in the Saskatchewan AAA league as well as being drafted by SJHL teams in the June entry draft.”
Cooper Sawatzky, the captain of the U16AA Marauders, along with alternate captains Kohen Oblander and Cruz Harrison joined with Lennon Fetterly, the captain of the Prince Albert Renegades for the ceremonial puck drop.
“Once again the U16AA Martensville Marauders want to thank everyone involved in getting the Martensville Recreation Centre up and running. Without your dedication of time, knowledge and hard work we wouldn’t be here today.”
Royals Clinch Regular Season Finale with Convincing Win Over NBCHS
Submitted by Coach Tyler Munday
The Royals capped off their regular season in style with a 37-21 victory against the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings on the road Friday night.
The game started with a bang as Aidan Low connected with Cam Kliewer for an electrifying 80yard touchdown on a trick play, setting the tone for the evening. The Vikings quickly responded with a scoring drive, aided by an interception thrown by quarterback Hawkley Dereniwski. However, Dereniwski rebounded impressively, leading the Royals on back-to-back touchdown drives that pushed the score to 21-7.
As the first half neared its end, Low showcased his versatility by returning a punt 65 yards for a touchdown, extending the Royals’ lead to 28-7 at halftime. The Royals' defense also put on a stellar performance, stifling the Vikings and forcing critical turnovers throughout the half.
The second half proved to be a tougher battle, with the Royals forcing a safety early in the third quarter to widen their lead to 30-7. North Battleford managed to score on a lengthy drive, capitalizing on some undisciplined penalties from the Royals. But just when momentum seemed to shift, Aidan Low returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, restoring a commanding 23-point lead.
The Vikings fought back with an impressive eight-minute drive in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 37-21. Nevertheless, the Royals effectively managed the clock, kneeling out the final moments to secure the victory and a home playoff game against the same Vikings squad this Friday at 4:00 PM.
With the regular season wrapped up and a playoff berth secured, the Royals will look to carry this momentum into the postseason as they aim for a championship run.

The Martensville Recreation Centre is Officially Open
Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger
In Martensville, there was much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, with the opening of the Martensville Recreation Centre (MRC) following more than a decade of dreaming of this moment.
This new 145,000 square foot facility will benefit the community for years to come and was made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of countless individuals. Throughout the years, there has been an endless amount of work being done behind the scenes to make this facility possible, as well as a wide range of fundraising events held to raise funds to ensure the MRC could become a reality.
On Friday, October 11th, the Martensville Recreation Centre hosted an open house where the public was invited to come see the facility and take part in some free programming.
“It was so great to see so many people out this weekend enjoying and seeing the space for the first time. The construction continues to be on track with a planned official grand opening for January 2025,” Mayor Kent Muench stated.
Amenities within the MRC include a regulation-sized ice surface with seven change rooms and a dryland training area, spectator seating for 900, a leisure/practice ice surface, an indoor playground, a wall climbing area, multi-purpose rooms and rooms available to rent, a second-level lounge and viewing area, concession space, over 7,700 square feet of commercial and retail space, an 8,200 square foot lobby which can accommodate activity space and future expansion, reception, office, storage, mechanical and support spaces and more.
Work is still being completed on a portion of the MRC, including the Fieldhouse area, which is scheduled to be open in January of 2025 and will include 61,570 square feet of indoor soccer and turf area and 7,600 square feet of baseball pitching and batting tunnels.
Future plans for the land include the addition of a second and third ice surface, although there is no current schedule in place for this.
