MARSHALL UNIVERSITY AUTISM TRAINING CENTER
OVERVIEW
The West Virginia Autism Training Center (WV ATC) is a statewide technical assistance and direct service agency providing specialized training and support to individuals with autism spectrum disorder, their families, educators, and other professionals and community members throughout the state of West Virginia. The center’s mission is to provide support to individuals with autism spectrum disorder as they pursue a life of quality.
The WV ATC’s Direct Services program, established in 1984, utilizes a system of multi-tiered Person-Centered support to West Virginians with autism, and those who support them in the home, school, and community settings. These services are provided at no cost to registered families living within West Virginia.
Through creative and collaborative efforts, the center’s commitment to enhanced quality of life has also contributed to the development of several additional programs including the College Program for Students with ASD in 2002. The WV ATC’s College Program helps students with ASD in navigating the college experience through individualized academic, social, and independent living skill supports. The College Program is located at Marshall University in Huntington.
The WV Behavioral and Mental Health Technical Assistance Center resulted from a collaboration between the WV ATC and the West Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Student Support. The WV BMHTAC assists teachers, students, families, and communities that are faced with challenging behavior and mental health issues through training, resources, and promotion of evidence-based strategies and interventions.
Although programs and service delivery models have evolved, the WV ATC remains dedicated to continuing its legacy of supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder throughout West Virginia as they pursue a life of quality.

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Friend:
Greetings from the West Virginia Autism Training Center, located at Marshall University!
The WV ATC exists to support West Virginians diagnosed with autism as they pursue a life of quality. However, to fully achieve this outcome one must have access to resources: diagnostic services, behavioral support, therapeutic and training options, family respite, etc. Access to resources better connect people to their communities and strengthen the resolve and resilience necessary to overcome day-to-day challenges.
We at the WV ATC provide this ASD Resource Manual to help West Virginians find autism-specific services in their communities or regions. The providers listed in this manual are not recommendations; rather, they are simply lists of providers known to provide a service typically used to support individuals with autism. It is imperative that individuals with ASD and family interview and check the references of providers to ensure the service provider has a reputation of quality.
Prior to the Internet, those searching for resources had to rely on word of mouth to find a provider. Even during this digital age, finding providers of quality can be a challenge. We hope this manual makes your search a bit easier and, as a result, helps improve your quality of life.
Be well.
Marc Ellison, Ed.D., LPC Executive Director West Virginia Autism Training Center Marshall UniversityRESOURCE LISTINGS
NOTES:
The WV ATC does not recommend one service over another, nor do we vouch for the quality of services provided by any individual, agency, or organization listed within this resource manual. Please be sure to review and verify information related to the availability and quality of services provided by contacting the individual, agency, or organization directly.
This resource manual is intended to provide a listing of known service providers specializing in services or supports beneficial to individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The WV ATC in no way considers this a complete listing of available WV service providers. If you are a service provider and are not listed in this manual, but would like to request to be included, please contact the WV ATC at 304-696-2332.
The WV ATC does not guarantee that any individual, agency, or organization listed accepts WV Medicaid for payment of services. Please be sure to verify acceptable payment options by contacting the individual, agency, or organization directly.
