Executive Report
BY DI TEGOVA DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS
Term 2 is drawing to a close and therefore the end of Semester 1 Our Year 12 students continue to prepare for their Trial HSC exams which is scheduled for early Term 3 We continue to support them academically and emotionally It is both exciting and daunting period in their lives as they face their first steps into official “adulthood” Collaboration between home and school is at its most crucial and working in chorus with parents and caregivers gives stability and a sense of purpose to all our young people Ensuring that there is study time but also time for family events, friends and some fresh air is part of a holistic and successful approach we advocate for every student
Our year 7 students have fully immersed into life here at Marsden It has been a positive transition for our new members of the Marsden family Next semester, the students will be experiencing new electives and exploring new talents, another facet of life at high school. Many recently went on camp Students arrived back, happily exhausted, after forging new friendships, galvanising existing ones and proud of the steps toward independence.
WINTER UNIFORM
It is difficult to keep on top of washing and ironing as the winter months, cold weather and rain descend upon us. However, it is a responsibility for each of us to come to school smartly dressed in a full Marsden uniform each day Students take great pride in wearing the Marsden uniform which is evident as I walk around the school each day It is appreciated that our students have families who are also proud of their children and how they are seen by our community.

Executive Report
BY DI TEGOVA

Marsden High School now has more than 1200 students. Our Learning and Support Team and Support Unit Staff support students who have difficulties or a disability which acts as an additional challenge for students to access the curriculum and have success in their high school journey. These students must be recorded on the NCCD It is a form of census so government agencies can plan for supports for these students. Please read the attached information which outlines in detail the NCCD and offers useful links to find further information
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School

Students with Disability (NCCD) Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: • year of schooling • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive. This information assists schools to: • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www education gov au/privacy-policy) Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school

Marsfest

Marsfest 2024 is the main highlight of the year! Thank you to all the staff, family members and students who were involved in our diverse range of performances and cultural activities on the day. Many students spent hours perfecting their routines, which built a sense of school spirit and connection between students across many grades An outstanding lion dance performance was shown in the second assembly with a range of performances from the Philippines, Pacific Islands, India, Korea, and China
Fundraisers will be held throughout the year to fund Marsfest 2025 Congratulations to all staff and students who made this day a success!

Year7Camp
~Brigitte Roman HSIE Teacher | Year 7 Advisor
Last week our Year 7's had their camp at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation in Narrabeen! Although slightly cold, they were able to build their team work skills by raft building, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Away from the water, we warmed up by the fire making damper and had a hilarious game of archery tag Nights were spent in the indoor centre playing group games and having a lot of fun with basketballs, pool noodles and blankets. I know there were lots of exhausted but happy faces on the way home! Thank you to all the parents, carers and teachers who made this camp possible for all the year 7 students to have some amazing memories to cherish

MAYOR TRENTON BROWN VISIT
Congratulations to Alise Monden and the PLT who received an award of recognition personally by Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown at a Special School Assembly. Alise represented Marsden High School in an Anzac Memorial Service at Anzac Park West Ryde. Alise spoke with poise throughout the service and was also mentioned by the Written Community Recognition Statements from Hansard 15 May 2024 stated below:
Mr JORDAN LANE (Ryde) I ask the House to join me in recognising school leaders from the Ryde electorate who assisted with Anzac Day services on 25 April 2024. Anzac Day is such a solemn occasion for our community, and it is fitting that generations - young and old - come together in remembrance I particularly acknowledge Alice Monden from Marsden High School, for agreeing to MC Ryde's official service. She represented her school with distinction and presided over a timely and professional ceremony. She was joined by a Holy Cross College student, who eloquently shared the stories and letters of soldiers from the frontline, reading passages from 'Ryde Goes to War 1914 - 1918'. Finally, I acknowledge a Epping Boys prefect, who recited 'The Ode', and with it, commanded the respect and honour befitting this occasion. These students represent a future that those on the battlefields fought to protect, and it makes me proud to see yet another generation carry the Anzac legacy forward We are blessed in Ryde with incredible local schools, with reputations built on the backs of their students. Alise and other students, have once again elevated this standard, and are deserving of our thanks.

YR 11 ENGLISH ADVANCED EXCURSION: OTHELLO SYMPOSIUM
Students went to the Seymour Centre to watch Sport for Jove's HSC performance Symposium of Shakespeare's Othello. A theatrical performance experience of major scenes from the play which is provided with analysis and critical insights into the text and its critical interpretations

Last term, the SRC team dedicated their project to raise awareness surrounding Autism through a bake sale! Proceeds were donated to Aspect Australia to aid their cause in educating people more clearly about the Autism Spectrum and assist in diagnosing undiagnosed neurodivergence. As the Autism Spectrum becomes further explored, stereotypes and stigmatisation should be reduced, and that’s what this event was all about. With the blue themed bake sale (blue for Autism Awareness Day) run by SRC and presentation run by Mr Lim, we raised $471 94 to donate to Aspect Australia and believe this event was an engaging and fun tradition we hope the next team will be interested in continuing. Additionally, this term the SRC held its annual 'Pay It Forward' event where students were able to write messages to their fellow peers and teachers. Pay It Forward day is always such a joy to organise and participate in, spreading kindness and raising school spirit! Finally, SRC is working with other faculties in order to bring back the 'Wrapped With Love' initiative, where students from all across the school participate in knitting or crocheting squares which will be sewn into a huge blanket at the end of it, then donated to charity to people in need of warmth for upcoming winters The 'Wrapped With Love' charity has been running since 1992 and Marsden is honoured to be able to contribute once more this year!

YEAR 11 VET STUDENTS PREPARE FOR WORK PLACEMENT
~Muneeza Rathore, Retail Services & TAS Teacher | VET Coordinator
On May 7th, our Year 11 VET students participated in a pivotal session hosted in the school library, facilitated by the VET Teachers with special guests, Peter and Eleni from AUSSIP, our local workplace provider. Tailored specifically for students enrolled in VET courses, where completing 70 hours of mandatory work placement is mandatory, this workshop covered essential topics including appropriate attire, effective communication with employers, and understanding pre- and postplacement expectations
Students gained valuable insights into workplace etiquette, such as the importance of punctuality, adhering to workplace dress codes, and following workplace rules diligently. A big thank you to AUSSIP for their valuable contribution to guiding our students towards success in their vocational endeavors!

A massive thank you to the staff, parents and students who contributed to the success of the first Melbourne fundraiser. Science Extension is running at Marsden High school in 2024 for the first time since 2019
Sarah Mosharraf (Yr 12) is currently working with mentors from Sydney University to complete her Student Research Project into "Octonol-water partition coefficient and medication absorption " Sarah has independently designed and begun to collect data on this project to show the solubility of different pharmaceuticals in the body. We are excited to see Sarah's final report which she will submit at the end of Term 3.
In Term 1, she planned a project to investigate the nature of light, looking at the importance of Blu-ray technology in data storage. Please see her poster for this project here.
Science extension is a one unit course offered in Yr 12 only that focuses on the authentic application of scientific research skills to produce a Scientific Research Report. Students propose and develop a research question, formulate a hypothesis and develop evidence-based responses to create their Scientific Research Report which is supported by a Scientific Research Portfolio. It is a course that promotes scientific inquiry and challenges students to use their critical and creative thinking skills
We would love to offer this course again in 2025. If any Yr 11 students have questions about this course, please see Ms Dalal in the Science staffroom.

An extract from a poem about landscape (Year 7)
Once damaged from human destruction, The rock is now free from human interruption. The elders are able to care for their sacred site, And all who visit stand back and marvel at her height. Red dust and desert grass as far as the eye can see, Uluru, what a spectacular place to be.
L. Inman
An extract from some imaginative writing (Year 9)
On that autumn morning, as the leaves turned shades of amber and gold, Elara sat, fishing by a large lake. The leaves, the ripples of water, and the waving trees all moved as if they were a show meant just for her. She flailed her rod into the water, intently staring at the bob floating slowly across the lake N.Karimian
A strong voice about an important issue (Year 10)
Together, we can create a world where every individual is valued for who they are, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background Let's educate ourselves and others, challenge stereotypes, and advocate for policies that promote equality and justice Let's build bridges not barriers In conclusion, the fight against racism requires collective action. We can challenge these injustices and build a world where diversity is celebrated and every individual is treated with dignity and respect We must work together and challenge the social norms for a brighter and better future for the generations to come Let us remember the words of Martin Luther King Jr.: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere " Together, let us rise above racism and forge a path towards a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
