From her life being changed to changing others lives, Keisha SnowVeley tells us how she does things the nine-finger way!

Level up is more than just a brand, it’s a motto to live by. Clothing designer Tanisha Woodard wants to inspire others to chase their dreams all while rocking the latest Level Up gear.

A man of many talents. Meet author, mentor, poet, and peaker Kwesi Jackson.

After six months we decided to revisit salon owner Tina Allen to see how her business is doing.

A landmark in East Rome, The Finishing Touch has been around since 1985 and salon owner Connie Newman has no plans on moving anytime soon.

Author and screenwriter, Marlon McCaulsky, shares with us about wanting to branch out into different genres of movies.

KEISHA SNOW-VELEY WE ARE NOT OUR DIAGNOSIS

Sometimes

you hear someone’s story and for some reason it sticks with you. Keisha Snow-Veley has one of those stories. Originally from Toledo Ohio, Keisha moved to Dallas Georgia in March of 2017 to enlarge her organization. She is a cancer survivor. Her battle began when she was just 10 years old. It all started when her teacher at the time sent home a note to Keisha’s mom informing her that Keisha had a lump on her finger. Her mom then proceeded to get the lump checked out. The doctors removed the lump and sent it off for testing. On the follow up visit doctors discovered another lump, but this one was larger. Before Keisha’s mom could get a second opinion, the test results came back that the previous lump was cancerous. Keisha went through various test to determine the severity of the cancer. The form of cancer Keisha had was called Fibrosarcoma which is extremely rare. It was then that the doctors recommended that Keisha’s finger be removed immediately. Keisha’s mom was devastated and had a hard time coping with the reality of what was happening. On May 29th, 1996 Keisha underwent surgery to have her finger removed.

Having a finger removed can be a huge adjustment. Keisha recalls her recovery period, “I had to stay home to recover, and during my time of recovery I taught myself how to braid.”

She was unable to go outside during that time because the doctors were worried she could cause further harm to the area. During surgery they accidently cut a nerve in her middle finger causing her to lose feeling in it. Unfortunately, they didn’t think she would regain sensation, but they were wrong. “By me working with my hands and playing with my dolls, I worked it back to life!” And that was the beginning of her journey to becoming an entrepreneur and hairstylist. I mentioned to Keisha how kids can be cruel. She had this to say: “The kids were really mean. Kids would stare, they would call me names. In high school I was still getting called names. In hair school, There was one teacher that would tell me I wouldn’t make it in the hair world because of the way I talked, the way I dressed, and many other things. I had a lot of people really second guessing my gift”. What advice do you have for someone who maybe going through something similar?

“I would tell them their diagnosis does not determine their future. I would tell them that whatever they want to do they can or if they have a dream in their heart to go for it. Don’t let their diagnosis hold them back, I want them to know their pain has a purpose behind it.” We all have a story to tell And im hoping to change the way the world sees beauty AND STOP BULLYING! It is important to know that medical differences aren’t reasons to stare, mistreat, or make assumptions. Together we can show the world that we are NOT OUR DIAGNOSIS. What is Transform My Beauty? “Transform My Beauty is a nonprofit organization that was created to inspire young girls with a serious medical condition. Through Transform My Beauty we provide cuddle packages to children in the pediatric unit around holidays. We connect with churches, shelters and other nonprofit organizations and provide free cosmetology services. And we also provide complimentary wigs for women and children going through cancer that have lost their hair due to chemo. “ How did Transform My Beauty come about?

“It came about when one day I was doing hair and my coworker’s client came in upset because she got news she had cancer. She was worried about her hair falling out. My coworker asked was there anything I could do, and I said I could make her a wig. After helping her I was like I could do this for other people as well” That same year Keisha made 14 wigs and she took them to Race for The Cure which is a breast cancer walk. She gave the wigs away to women that looked like they were suffering from hair loss. Shortly after the race she was contacted by 13 abc news to get a story on what she was doing and it went viral. From this news story she was overwhelmed with request from women all over the world. It was after that someone informed Keisha she could turn her personal charity work into a nonprofit organization and gain support from the community. What do we have to look forward to with Transform My Beauty? “I want to do a tour with Transform My Beauty and we need at least $10,000 to even start the tour. On my tour I want to visit the main cities around the country. I have an event I produced specifically for children with a serious medical condition, called Kool Kids Rip The Runway.

KKRTR was produced to create awareness of so many unknown diseases affecting diverse populations. This show also allows KoolKids to showcase their talent and give them the opportunity to be whomever it is that they want to be!

I want to give every kid around the world a chance to rip the runway and showcase their talent. With the tour I want to have pop up salons, stop at elementary and hair schools, hospitals, and share my story.

If I can change the life of just one girl I will have completed my personal mission it is amazing to see others in similar challenges like myself overcome the diagnosis and make a great outcome. How can the community help you? “You guys could help me by Donating to my organization and getting my story out. KING THE CONSCIOUS RESPONSIBILITY

If I am in harmony with my family, that’s success. ~ Ute proverb In an era where so many people want to feel validated and accepted it is hard to sometimes feel like you are woke or conscious enough in this generation. I promise you that if you take conscious responsibility of your empire as a KING you are doing fine, no pressure. We all have our vices and we all deal with them differently some people use religion, others have spirituality, and many resort to substances to deal #medicateinsteadofmeditate. The real question remains, what are some of the conscious responsibilities should a King in the America keep in his mind. Of course, people differ in reasoning as to what should the Kings in Amerikkka focus on consciously but one of the most important things you can ever do, is self-reflect on legacy and how you are building it. The key word here is consciously, the mind is the gate to the divine and as Kings we can choose to let our divine power escape us or fuel us, through the mind.

With each breath we have the opportunity to respond to the world that has tried to shatter us in numerous ways physically, mentally, and spiritually. Remember, we were born rich, so we have to use our minds to acquire our inheritance.

What is our inheritance…. Of course our 40 acres and a mule. But what does that look like in 2017. I for one would have no idea what to do with a mule in all honesty, and at times I’m conflicted about what I would do with 40 acres. I do know one thing, it is my responsibility to consciously set up my family for success if I am to call myself anything. My 40 acres and a mule might be land that I own to reap the benefits of growing my own food and crops, and tilling the ground to produce the things that my family needs to survive. It is my responsibility to teach my family how to not only live from the land, but how to do that in an informational age. This is difficult because you are really taking on the responsibility of the agriculture era, the industrial era, and the information era, but it is well worth it to set up your family for future success. Land equals ownership and that is a responsibility that you must take seriously while you are alive.

To own something at the end of the day and not repeat the cycle of building something that no individual could take away with a single swipe of a pen/legislation is important. It is also my responsibility to control and adapt to my A.A.E., my actions, association, and environment.

One of the most important resources that we have Kings is our network. You see we have always operated with the “Mind of Africa”. We are at our strongest when we are engaging in a Poly(Many)-Consciousness mindset of the many instead of the barbaric narcissistic ego centered views of the individual(#eurocentricaf). Our network is our strength, we must bridge our multiple divine spirits, creative minds, and strong bodies to fight this war that we far out last this flesh. Make no mistake the war is not with people, but with the spirit and what is hindering the flesh and blood. We must use our network to fight against institutionalized racism. In this day and age it is easier to find a network of black entrepreneurs, we have apps, magazines, social media, digital marketing etc. We must use the information to communicate and align with our fellow brothers and sister. If your association is not tight, then you’re not in the fight. We must also be conscious of the actions that we make every day, especially to our personal development, we must study the past to gain an understanding of the future, we must read, and communicate our thoughts and feeling with each other. We can easily get together for a party if there’s alcohol, marijuana, food, or music, but what we fail to do is take that opportunity to network and see how we can work together with each other.

We must put more energy into our networks and utilize them well. That also means that you have to grow into a person who can be truly useful to the black wall street marketplace, growing your mind is a great place to start.

It’s as simple as finding a book on youtube and listening to the audio version (I am currently reading the destruction of the black civilization on youtube). We must also consciously figure out how we can best help our family structure, once we start to grow we can help our children and Queens grow. Technology can help in this way as well. There is so much information that is out there as far as making financial moves, homeschooling, and making sure your children are learning.

That is our responsibility we are the protectors and providing, but we must protect our Queens and our children’s mind. What are they looking at on their phone, I-pad, or gaming device? What subconscious messages is it sending to them and how can we replace those messages with beneficial messages that will allow them to be able to join the fight when they are older. I was recently notified that they have a Yoruba beginning language app on the android market, what if your child looks into that for 30 minutes a day, understanding the cultural roots that can build him up. It is our responsibility to take the initiative and use technology for the advancement of our people. We must be cognizant of what environment we are putting ourselves, and our family into. In many ways your environment shapes your reality, but only in the physical. We are spiritual beings, so we can shape our own reality, do not fall prey to your surroundings. This is very important because you can be a product of your environment(society) very easily, or your environment can be a product of you. This includes a revolutionary mindset of changing values, principles, and organizing systems.

This past year i have had to make a conscious effort to not go to the club and bars so much and really spend that same “free time” (time you should spend finding ways to be free from the system) on really developing myself. Now sometimes you can’t just up and move your physical space, but luckily the universe works in reverse, so change your spiritual environment, take care of your temple, meditate, pray, figure out your country of origin, then mentally clean that environment of the negative and self-hating thoughts that society projects on you, and then one day you might have the opportunity to move out of your physical environment if you don’t think you are growing there. Remember, if you are not growing then you are dying. Point. Blank. Period. If you are in the middle decide now, because your legacy awaits you at the other side of growth. If your environment, that same block you hang out on is not conducive to your growth, then as a King you have to self- examine and make a decision. Where you are from will hold you back if you are looking at the physical terrain and the access to resources, but spiritually, the divine allows you to acquire everything you need. We also need to make sure we are putting our families in the best possible area conducive for growth, a flower cannot grow easily in a desert. It is draining on the flower spiritually and eventually it physically withers and dies. We cannot afford to die in this fight.

Our local churches (the moral governing body within the community) must stop with all the confusing mysticism that has pushed some to the brink of mental illness, and begin to tell the whole truth about the freedom found in higher consciousness.

We must utilize the public facilities to train, develop, and uplift our up-and-coming youth to go further and come back home to revitalize our communities.

Its time out for all the frivolous spending – buying rims and J’s and the next new iPhone… following trends – and really being to invest in the places we call home… especially our youth who will be the next generation of leaders.

We must fall back in love with neighborhood strolls ‘down the street’ to Auntie Debra’s house. And the smell of BBQ chicken and hot dogs on the grill on any random sunny afternoon. We must even fall back in love with the trunk booming, picture rattling on the wall sound of bass passing by on the streets right in front of our homes.

We’re in a pivotal place in society right now where we not only see the injustices and understand the warfare that is so clearly against us, but where we have access to every tool necessary to start a worldwide movement to take back our rightful place in our communities and in this world.

FEED THE HUNGRY We

cover the 3rd Annual Feed The Hungry sponsored by Helecia Brewster of Helecia’s Dinners & Catering. This was the first year they were able to host it at a central venue. In previous years they drove around town and personal delivered the meals. But this year Christ Temple opened their doors and allowed Helecia to use the fellowship hall for the event.

How did you come up with the idea to host this event initially?

“I watched my kids on Christmas morning open their gifts in a warm house and we have food. But then you have the people that don’t. After we finish doing what we do we want to go out and give back. So I want my kids to always remember it’s not about receiving its about giving. And I love to cook,” What all did you to get the word out to the community about the event?

“Social media is the bomb. So I did a lot of advertising on social media and I printed out flyer and rode around to different parts of town and handed out to people. I went to the Salvation Army, the Community Kitchen, just different places I know people would be at. And you don’t have to be homeless to be hungry.

You don’t have to be poor to come here and get this meal.This meal is for anybody. We just want to eat and everybody enjoy themselves for Christmas. This may be as close to a family they may get.

Do you have any plans on what you’re going to do next year?

“Yes, we’re gonna do this again. Hopefully it will get bigger and bigger. I am liking the one location thing.

Maybe we can use it again next year. If the event grows, we’ll move to a bigger venue.

What is your biggest reward from do this event?

“Just seeing people happy and eating. It warms my heart. It makes me feel like I’ve done something. I just want to give back.

How can we people contact you for booking?

“I am on Facebook. I have a business page it’s Helecia’s Dinners and Catering. You can find my phone number on there as well. No job is to big or to small. I cater business events, Christmas parties, etc. Just call me and my prices are reasonable.

LIFE’S A GAME SO YOU BETTER

LEVEL UP

It comes a time in every person’s life where they must make a move for the better. In other words, they gotta LEVEL UP! And that’s exactly what clothing designer and Level Up the brand owner Tanisha Woodard did.

A native of Rome, she was known for her basketball skills. She graduated from Rome High School. And with the help of Coach Strickland she decided to attend Clayton State University in Clayton County, Georgia where she continued her basketball career. Later she was afforded the opportunity to play basketball overseas in Germany, Sweden, and Finland. She described her experience there as nothing short of amazing.

It also thought her survival. Being so far away from home she had to learn self-reliance. But it was there she told a fellow teammate that when she returned to the states she would start her own clothing brand.

Unfortunately while overseas, Tanisha had to come home after suffering an ankle injury. She was faced with a harsh reality. “You go from being a superstar to having to come home and you’re just like where does life take me now. You mean to tell me I have to get a real job. I never worked a job before.” She had start from nothing but she worked hard to gain ground. Tanisha mentions that her favorite rapper is Fabulous and his album Level Up was all about what she had been going through. “Everyday I’m trying to go one level up to be the best person I can be. So I was like, I’m ready!”

In May of 2017, after creating her logo, she started with t-shirts. She recalls the orders coming in fast.

She quickly moved on to shorts, tank tops, bandanas, and hats. But it really started to pick up when she

unveiled the V-neck mesh jerseys.

“That was really like a turning point for the brand.” From there Tanisha branched out to all types of sports jerseys.

In October of this year, LEVEL UP appeared in the Georgia’s Fashion Show & Expo. They showcased the men and women’s fall collections. It was a wonderful event, and Tanisha plans on hosting her own LEVEL UP fashion show at some point.

Far from a one woman show, she commends the support she gets from her team. “The thing about my team is they’re brand ambassadors. They’re models. I have Makayla. She’s great. We have a Shorter University basketball player from Detroit. We have a track star from Shorter University. I have my managing director Maresha Lee. Labreya does just as much as I do.

I have Athena, she’s actually in the Atlanta area.” Tanisha is excited to have such as amazing group of people to work with.

We have talked a lot about the brand but its about more than that for Tanisha. It is also about giving back to the community. She has a YMCA youth basketball team called the LEVEL UP BALLERS. She will be sponsoring them with LEVEL UP gear. They practice at 5:30 every Thursday. Make sure to take the opportunity to support the team.

We can never predict the future but from what I see now it looks bright for Tanisha and LEVEL UP. “I’m gonna keep working hard everyday because I know what’s destined for me is gonna happen. Also as long as you’re working hard and putting work in, God is gonna bless you.”- Tanisha Woodard 10

A

native of Rome Georgia KWESI JACKSON is a teacher, author, and motivational speaker. Initially I discovered him through his daily FACEBOOK live morning post and was intrigued. Prior to seeing the post his name came up in an interview with author and friend NAKITA JACKSON. With so much to work with I jumped right into the interview.

Tell me about your book CASHMERE & LICORICE? “The book was a mesh of poems I had done over the course of two years. I’ve dabbled in poetry my entire life. A friend of mine suggested that I start blogging. I didn’t want to be driven by fear anymore and anxiety is something that I have dealt with my whole life. So I decided I was going to self-publish this book and just put it out there. The purpose was not to be a best seller or make a lot of money. It was I did not want to be defeated by fear.”

Are you currently working on any new books?

“I have one book I am working on called “WHEN NATURE SPEAKS”. It’s a book of poetry again but I am focusing on speaking poetically from the perspective of nature.

One of my ideas was about a bee. And in the poem it talks about the bee’s prospective about how ungrateful humanity is. Also up next it a motivational book because I’m looking to become a full time motivational speaker. Then I have “LETTERS TO MY STEPDADS”.

Go more in depth about LETTERS TO MY STEPDADS. “I’ve had a few stepdads and I know the impact of a stepfather can either have a great impact or it can rob them of a great future. And of course I got consent from my mother before I started work on the project because I didn’t want her to feel like I was exposing our private life to the world. So I wanted to write an open letter with no names involved where I tell them the good and the bad affects they had on my life. And I hope someone gets blessed by it” When can we expect a new release?

“I notice when I pressure myself for quality material, I fumble and I fold. And I don’t ever want to get to a place where money is the goal. Money or fame has never been the thing with me. It has really always been about saying what I feel and hoping there’s someone out there that feels the same way I do. So I said I’m not gonna put that pressure on myself of having to meet a deadline.

So you’re a teacher. What made you choose that career path?

“I gonna steal a line from BUBBA SPARXXX, he said I didn’t choose rhyming, rhyming chose me. I didn’t really choose that path for myself, but because I feel like my strength is public speaking I am able to flourish at it. Once I started teaching people would tell me I’m really good at it. But I don’t love it, but I do like the talking part of it.”

How did you get started doing your daily FACEBOOK live post?

“I’m really trying to become a full-fledged speaker. So I thought a way to do it was to use a free platform like FACEBOOK. And its ok to start with only 4 or 5 viewers.

I always said if an individual loves me enough as a friend, then show me you love me by sharing my videos. And that invites me into the world of their thousand or so friends and start to create an audience like that.

And hopefully they hear something they like along the way.”

What are some of the topics you’ve covered on your morning show?

“One of the topics I cover is anxiety. As a young man I battle anxiety and I had no idea what it was. The suicide rate of people with anxiety is increasing because they are trying to figure out how to cope with something. And there’s a solution that they know themselves.

I found out my anxiety was coming from me wanting to please a lot of people. And back then I was always worried about things I couldn’t change. So as I got older I learned to get in my own lane. So I will get on live and try to convince people to jump, stop, and get out of the rat race. So anxiety is a big topic. Also systems and how they are broken is another one.”

Do you have any upcoming speaking engagements?

“I’ve been working with NAKITA JACKSON and following a lot of what she’s doing with speaking engagements. I’m always open to do service engagements. I’ll go to churches and speak to young men. I just recently spoke at a rites of passage ceremony. As far the one’s I create for myself, I want to start in my hometown of Rome. And I am aiming for next summer.

What are you looking forward to in the future?

“What I look forward to is being a minister of hope. I really like the idea of packing venues out and having people listen to me tell them on how to unplug from the matrix. But the fact that there was a single individual who was so unplugged from everything and he just needed someone to tell him and push him to join a team of people who are unplugged was awesome.

My cousin, TONY WOODS, says stay woke a lot and so does TRAVIS CARTER. And those are guys I looked up to.

The movement that went on with “THE BACKYARD POETS” with TYRELL JOHNSON and AL GOODGAME, it was my dream just to dance with them. I thought they were ahead of the time. And that’s what I want for myself. To be that guy who marches to the beat of his own drum.”

“One of my main focuses for 2018 is going to be on building my non-profit organization called “HER TILTED CROWN”. Its going to focus on girls within our community and showing them different aspects of life. We also want to provide them with mentors; women who they can look up to. We want to take the girls outside their everyday life and teach them what it is to be a true Queen.“ Tina and I briefly talked about her event called UNSTOPfirst talked to Tina Allen, owner of Cashmere Faces PABLE WOMEN OF 2018 Pajama Party, which you can Glam Bar & Salon, back in July of 2017 when she first read about in detail in the February issue of the magaopened her salon. POUNDS DOWN My name is Peter Stubbs and I’ve come a long way from where I use to be as far as weight is concerned. People always ask me what motivated me to get fit and get healthy. I tell them it was a series of unfortunate events.

There wasn’t one single thing that I can point to and say, “This is what made be become health conscious”.

For starters I was in a car accident while I was in college that caused me to have to go through physical therapy.

My weight made it difficult. Even though I’ve always been big, having to go through rehabilitation really let me know how out of shape and unhealthy I was. Then I got a new phone and while fumbling around with it I discovered it had a step counter. I kept playing around with it, but then I challenged myself. How can I get 10,000 steps in a day? So what I did was, I took all the energy I was putting into nonsense and I rerouted it into working out. I got to the point where I would walk in the morning, walk in the evening, and every day I wasn’t working.

Then it got to where I would workout every day regardless of if I had to work or not. I would try to get at least 3 to 4 miles in. At some point I got into weight lifting. Then my friends, who are super athletes, got in and started pointing me in the right direction. Eventually I found my own way and I just kept going with it.

One of the hardest parts about my journey was identifying my limitations and then knowing when to push them. The goals I had originally set for myself started to become less of a challenge. So I started going longer distances, speeding up my pace, and adding incline. Over time I have learned to switch up my workouts to keep my

body from hitting a plateau.

I got the workout part down. Then I had to tackle my unhealthy eating. I got to the point where I wasn’t eating any fast food. I also cut back on sodas and I mostly drank water. As I worked out more it made me want to eat better. I feel like now it wouldn’t feel right to eat any of the old foods I use to put into my body A typical day for me: Eat Breakfast. Usually something light like a boiled egg, toast, and a cup of coffee. Morning workout with an hour of cardio and some weightlifting. Eat Lunch. Either a smoothie or a salad. Maybe one piece of meat and some greens. At the end of day I may do another walk or go for a hike. Then I have dinner. Usually something similar to what I have for lunch.

I am very proud to say I lost 100lbs. I was able to do without pills or surgery. It definitely wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it. This is still the beginning and I still have milestones that I have to reach. And to the individuals who are where I was 3 years ago I say this; the only way you’re gonna start is if you do it. And luckily I have made some friends along the way.

Looking around 1300 block of Maple Ave you see a lot has changed. Many of you may recall the laundromat and carwash down the street and Crane street park which was always packed especially during the summertime.

But the one place that’s always remained untouched is THE FINISHING TOUCH. Conni Newman is the owner of The Finishing Touch Salon. She has been in the same location on Maple Ave for the past 32 years. To some it’s a landmark hair salon, but to others it is their second home.

While most Conni’s peers were aspiring to be teachers and nurses, she had something different in mind for herself. At a very young age it had always been her dream to become a hairdresser. At the age of 38 she decided to pursue her. She enrolled Coosa Valley Technical College, which is now known as Georgia Northwestern Technical College. It did not take her very long to finish all her courses and graduate. Instead of working for someone else, she made the decision to open her own salon.

Conni was blessed to have been able to obtain the building that to this day she still calls her business. Starting out it was only herself and one other hairdresser. But eventually she was able to obtain other hairstylist as 17

time went on. Conni recalls only a total of 15 people, including barbers, have had the opportunity to work at her salon. She spoke about one individual in particular who was able to work under her as an apprentice. Conni says some people may not want to take the school route and a great way to supplement that is through apprenticeship. He was able to get his license and work in the salon for several years afterwards.

After being in business so long, the place just seems to run itself. Conni describes herself as being semi-retired.

She was fortunate enough to find referable hairstylist and barbers who she trusts will run the salon while she’s away. Which is something that seems to be quite difficult in this day in age.

To reach such a pinnacle in life as Conni Newman has is nothing short of rewarding. We all dream of the day where the long hours end and living for yourself beginnings. Well Conni has reached that point and she’s coasting from here on out!

“Getting played and getting deceived. But that’s what comes with the territory. I’m prepared for it, that’s what keeps me going. I like a challenge. People are gonna lie to me, they’re gonna cheat me, and scam me but now I know what to look for.”

MARLON McCAULSKY MEET AUTHOR AND SCREENWRITER

Marlon McCaulsky was born in Brooklyn, NY but was raised in Florida. In 2006 Marlon and his wife relocated to Atlanta, GA where his career in writing started to take off. He was offered his first publishing deal with Triple Crowne Publications. One thing lead to another and he ended up meeting Lamont Gant, who was originally just commissioned to design a cover for one of Marlon’s books.

“He approached me with the idea of turning one of my books into a film. So that’s how we got started with Creative Genius Films.”

At the time the two met, Lamont was doing graphic design and also took it upon himself to create book trailers to help authors with advertising their books. Lamont ended up loving one of Marlon’s stories and suggested they turn it into a film. In 2013 they released their first feature film “USED TO TEMPORARY HAPPINESS”. Following they collaborated on “NO TIME FOR LOVE” and “ANNULMENT” In 2014 they decided to step outside the box. They put together a sci-fi film titled “RETURN”. It took them about a year and half to wrap up filming. Once it was completed in 2015, they received national distribution for the film through a company called Novus Content. What’s amazing about the film “RETURNED” is that it’s a sci-fi thriller with an all-Black cast. Now that’s something you do not see every day. It was a step outside the box of what viewers seem to expect for Black filmmakers. It’s an attempt to break the mold of what a movie with an all-Black is to suppose to be.

Prior to collaborating with Lamont Gant, Marlon had published several books. In 2008 he released his novel “PINK PALACE”, an urban fiction book, which followed the lives of a few exotic dancers who worked in a club in Atlanta. He followed up with the sequels “PINK PALACE 2” and “PINK PALACE 3”. He also released several short stories between 2009 and 2011. Marlon’s latest book, “A DANGEROUS WOMAN”, was released in September of 2017. It’s an action thriller that chronicles the life of a presumed dead CIA operative. Marlon compares the novel to such movies as the Bourne series, Columbiana, or John Wick. It was a refreshing process for him to be able to step outside his normal realm of urban fiction.

Currently in the works is the sequel “RETURNED 2”. Once again Marlon is teaming up with Lamont Gant and Victoria Marie. Production is scheduled to start no later than February of 2018. But further on down the road, Marlon eventually sees Creative Genius Films taking off. Not only does he want to be able to put out independent films themselves but also obtain studio backing.

Also without a doubt Marlon plans to continue writing. And most importantly he has no plans of just sticking to the stereotype of what people expect from a black author. Branching out to other genres is definitely in the future for Marlon.

AN OPEN LETTER TO

BLACK AMERICA

The United States of America is in an odd position. We very well may be falling apart. From the election of Donald Trump to the sexual harassment allegations of some of the most influential men in the country to the repeal of Net Neutrality, America is going through it.

The constant struggle many people in America face isn’t surprising.

Since the founding of this nation, minorities have suffered. Black people, Hispanics, women, the LGBTQ community and basically anyone else who isn’t a white straight Christian male. The thing that we as minorities all share in common is that we’re all facing underrepresentation. We can never truly flourish in a country that wasn’t made to benefit us. The systems that were put in place for America were made for white people, and more specifically white men. In the entire history of America, we’ve only had 10 black Senators. It’s 2017 and this needs to change. In order to effectively alter this country, we have to run it. Black interests can’t be achieved if there aren’t any of us working in the legislative system. The black narrative can’t be changed if there aren’t black journalists telling our stories. Black students can’t be pushed to their full potential if they don’t have black educators motivating them to be their best selves. Our generation loves to voice their opinions on social media or by protesting, and that’s a good start, but we need to be active and have active roles in stimulating change for our country. People want change and people want to have their voices heard, but in order to see results you have to take action.

Seeing people who look like you in power can be a strong motivating factor. Growing up and seeing Barack Obama as the president made me feel like I could do anything. I was motivated to make honor roll throughout elementary and middle school. I challenged myself to take college level classes in high school and I even decided to further my education by going to college. Not only did this motivate me, but other black students as well. It was kind of like saying, black people as just as capable to do what the white man can do, and sometimes more. Living in Atlanta, the Black Mecca, is empowering in itself because I see black people making a difference in their communities and being in positions of power for their city. We have a mayor named Keisha. Seeing things like this shows people of color that despite their obstacles and they can accomplish their goals. We might have to work harder, we might face trials and tribulations, we might have to struggle, but we can do it.

This country wasn’t made for us, but it was made by us. This country was built on the backs of slaves and immigrants and manipulated to ensure it benefited and advanced white people. Now we need to take the steps necessary to ensure that it works for us too. Being a minority doesn’t make you a minor citizen. America is going through it and America has always gone through it. It is up to the people fix it, and that includes people of color.

P.S. You can’t make America great again, when it was never great to begin with. Let’s make America great for once.

Mindset: Unworthy Piece “UNWORTHY” is a word that defined most of my 20’S. Why would others view me differently. I was just another statistic who had a college degree. What made me so different than the rest of the world?

I graduated from college with no purpose. I was another lost soul, pretending to the world I had it all figured out. I lacked confidence because of the way my body appeared to the world. I hated my body and the changes that took place in it. I gained a lot of weight and I could care less about fixing it. But, my confidence dropped tremendously when I graduated from college and still lacked purpose. My family and friends where so proud, but I wasn’t. I had no idea, what to do next.

My mindset was complete college and everything else would fall into place, at least that’s what I thought. So, I partially completed college for me, but mostly because I thought it would define me as a respected person. Having that piece of paper behind my name, seemed like the logical thing to have. Yet, there was still an emptiness inside of me… feeling unworthy.

I felt unworthy to allow others to view me differently than I viewed myself. Unworthy to have a better life, unworthy to be loved, unworthy to see my greatness within. The issues within myself where deep rooted. I was afraid to face them because that meant I would have to shift my mindset. Mentally, I wasn’t ready. So, I kept soaking deeper in my pain. I allowed my anger, self-doubt and rage to carry on internally without an outlet.

Why am I feeling this way? Where is all this coming from? Why do I feel so unworthy?

This “unworthy “, feeling started from my abandonment issues as a child and it followed into my adulthood. I didn’t realize it at the time. See, I told myself it 23

really didn’t matter and I would be fine without him. So, I brushed this issue underneath me. I carried on with my life as if this issue didn’t exist. But, my father played a major role in me feeling unworthy. So Dad, I write this letter to you: Dear Dad: You hurt me in so many ways and all I ever wanted was to be loved by you. I have always been drawn to older men because I was searching for love in all the wrong the places, looking to replace you. I questioned my identity and who I was as a person and a woman because I needed your love. My unworthy issue started because of you. But, this letter isn’t intended to hurt you, but to let you know I have forgiven you.

This letter is mostly for me, to move to the final phase of my healing process. More importantly, its geared towards defining my purpose. So, I thank you for abandoning me, because you served your purpose. God had this in his plan all along for me and now I’m in a space to be more receptive about sharing my feelings. My mindset has shifted above those unworthy thoughts. Now, it’s a part of my purpose to share with the world.

Love, Your Daughter If somebody out here is dealing with abandonment issues, I’m here to tell you this… this issue does not define who are. You are worthy. I am worthy. It’s a stepping stone set in place to make you stronger, it made me stronger. It’s now a big piece of my testimony. So, Dad I’m not mad anymore and this anger and rage I once felt has left my spirit. I’m finally at peace and I forgive you.

I’ve completed my healing process and now I can close this chapter in my life. I am no longer a victim of unworthiness. I’m a survivor and you can be too. That was deep. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief and release.

WEL NONPROFIT- A MOTHER’S DREAM Laketch Debebe was born in a small town in the country of Ethiopia called Adulala. Although she came from humble beginnings, she still had big dreams. Laketch’s goal was to give back to the children of Adulala by opening a school. Unfortunately she was unable to accomplish her mission, but her children have vowed to see to it that her dream comes true.

To fulfill their mother’s mission, they started the organization called WEL NON-PROFIT. Through this organization WEL Elementary School will be created. The school will offer two meals a day, uniforms, transportation, and minor medical services to the children of the area. Services such as these are so valuable to this disadvantaged and poverty-stricken area. So it is a must that we as a community see to it that this project is completed.

A typical day for a WEL Elementary School student would be no different than any other elementary school. The day starts out with breakfast and a prayer then it’s off to class. There is a strong emphasis placed on academics, but time is set aside for recess as well. After recess they would have lunch and return to class. Following the end of day activities they would be dismissed at 3pm.

A mission such as this takes a lot of funding. WEL Elementary recently broke ground but they still have a long road ahead of them. The organization needs financial support to purchase school supplies, provide meals, pay for staff, and to continue with building up the infrastructure. There are a few ways individuals and businesses can contribute. You can donate through their website WELNONPROFIT.ORG. Currently all funds are being directed towards infrastructure. Once the school is open and operating, you have the option to sponsor a child

for just $15/month. You will receive periodic updates on the child’s progression in school along with pictures and information about their family. LeBron James

One of the greatest to ever play the game of basketball, Lebron James is nothing short of amazing. Hailing from Akron, Ohio, the NBA superstar started his professional career in 2003 after being drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron is a 3-time NBA champion, 3-time NBA finals MVP, and a 14-time NBA All Star player. LeBron is not only great on the court but off it as well. When it comes to some of the most controversial issues, for instance the Trayvon Martin case, Lebron had no problem speaking out on injustice. He has made it clear he wants to use his platform to effect change. His most recent humanitarian efforts, headed by the LeBron James Family Foundation, was to open a school for at risk kids in Akron, Ohio. The efforts worked because the school has plans to open in the fall for 3rd and 4th graders with more levels coming in the future. An activist, a philanthropist, and an all-around standup guy, LeBron James is making Black History.

Spike Lee

A Morehouse graduate, Spike Lee AKA Shelton Jackson Lee is an American Film writer, director, and producer.

Lee is noted for his films addressing race relations, urban life, political issues, and other topics pertaining to the Black community. Lee’s cinematic contributions have gained him much recognition. In his early career he won the Student Academy Award and later won an award at the Berlin International Film Festival for Get on the Bus. In 2015 he was given an Honorary Academy Award for his contributions to film-making. One of Lee’s latest films titled Chi-raq focuses on gang violence on Chicago’s southside, which mirrors the current real-life state of the city. Lee was a trailblazer of his time and has opened doors for other Black films makers.

Thurgood Marshall

Born July 2, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland, Thurgood Marshall was an American lawyer. He graduated from Howard University School of Law in 1933. Marshall argued several cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, but his most notable case was Brown v. The Board of Education.

It was a landmark case that affirmed racial segregation in public education was a violation of the Equal Protection Clause thus integrating the schools. In 1967 Marshall was appointed Associate Justice to the Supreme Court, making him the first African-American to be appointed to that position. Prior to becoming a justice, he founded the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund which he served as executive director. Marshall played huge role in making advancements in the judicial system. He is one of the great ones in Black history.

The Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare that allowed a great number of the population to gain affordable health insurance coverage. The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 extended tax relief provisions that were enacted in 2001. Before becoming the top man he is today, he started from very little. President Obama spent much time living with his grandparents. He has talked about his struggle with the absence of his father. When Obama was 21 years old his father passed away in a car accident. Obama later wrote “At the time of his death, my father remained a myth to me.” From humble beginnings to the White House, President Obama remains an asset to Black history.

Michelle Obama

Former First Lady Michelle Obama was born in Chicago Illinois. Prior to stealing the hearts of most Americans, she was employed with the Sidley & Austin Law Firm.

A Harvard Law graduated Mrs. Obama left the firm to pursue a career in public service. In 1993 she became the Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies which was a nonprofit organization for youth leadership development. Following her work with the City of Chicago, she served as associate Dean of Students at the University of Chicago. And in 2002 she served as the director of community affairs with the University of Chicago Hospitals and 3 years later was asked to serve as Vice President. Harriet Tubman

There is no one other person that has ever displayed such bravery and resilience as Harriet Tubman did during her life. Fellow abolitionist Frederick Douglass spoke very highly of Tubman and her efforts to free their fellow brethren. Known as the conductor of the Underground Railroad, she escaped from slavery only to return 19 more times to free her family and several others. Harriet Tubman, whose birth name was Araminta Ross, suffered a serious head injury during her childhood which caused her severe headaches. It also caused her to have visions which she interpreted as divine premonitions for her to act and God would protect her. Tubman used various tactics to keep the group safe. It was also told that she carried a revolver and stories say she was not afraid to use it. She did not hesitate to take out one of her own if they threaten the safety of the group. Tubman went down in the history books for her community service.

Angela Davis

Activist, author, and educator Angela Davis spent her career speaking out on social injustices. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama in a neighborhood known as “Dynamite Hill” because of the bombing of homes by people who were upset at blacks migrating to the area.

Angela later moved up north and attended Brandeis University and graduated in 1965. She earned her master’s degree from University of California, San Diego. While there she become associated with the Black Panther Party as well as the U.S. Communist Party. Angela became a supporter of the Soledad Brothers, who were accused of the murder of a prison guard only after the death of a fellow prisoner was killed at the hands of a guard. On the day of trial, they attempted an escape and chaos ensued ending in the death of a judge. It was later discovered that the gun used was registered to Angela. A warrant was issued, and she fled. She was captured and brought up on murder and conspiracy charges. Angela ended up beating the rap and gained worldwide support from fellow revolutionaries. She has had the pleasure of teaching at universities such as San Francisco State University, Rutgers University, and Syracuse University. Angela’s current area of interest is in reforming the U.S. prison systems. She founded the Critical Resistance whose goal

Keoanna Shaw, Shakeela Hill, and Erin Jones. Ahmad is the founder of the group and hails from Adairsville, Georgia. He is also currently serving as the worship pastor at the North Rome Church of God in Rome, Georgia.

Keonna, a resident of Rome, met Ahmad through a play in which they both were involved in. Erin., who sings alto, was born and raised in Cartersville, Georgia. She describes being in the group as therapeutic. Alegna is from Rockmart, Georgia and is a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Rome. Shakeela, the newest member of the group, is from Acworth, Georgia. Being from a rural area and the music scene being relatively small they were bound to gravitate towards each other, says Erin.

Being in a group is not easy. It can have its ups and downs just like a family. Although its called Ahmad Hall & Friends, its more like Ahmad Hall & Family says Erin.

When Erin was dealing with the passing of her father the group was there to comfort her. Alegna says she enjoys being around such wonderful people. Although they all have different personalities, they still seem to mesh well together. The vibe surrounding them is welcoming and that’s what drew Shakeela in. We know how people can be judgmental but that was not the case as Shakeela would find out after talking with Ahmad. And for Keonna, who was previously in a group, had reservations about joining but the more she sang with the group the more she became attached.

A funny story behind the group is that they were never supposed to be a group. After having complications with a previous group, Ahmad vowed to never do it again. But as always never say never. In 2014 someone approached Ahmad to do a concert. He called up a few people he knew (Erin, Keonna, Alegna) and on May 10th put on a beautiful concert. Thinking it was only going to be for one night, Ahmad suggested they call the group Ahmad Hall & Friends. After the concert Mr. Marvin Williams, Alegna’s father, approached Ahmad and told him that he needed to keep the group together at all cost. Ahmad agreed and 4 years later we have been blessed to enjoy some amazing music from the group.

What happen next was quite interesting. Ahmad says Shakeela hated the song initially. But over time and after multiple rehearsals she of course fell in love with it.

With groups its typical for members to come and go but there is one special lady who will always be apart of Ahmad Hall & Friends. Joy Hill passed away in May of 2017 but her spirit lives on within the group. She is truly missed and her contributions to the community were tremendous. She was a Tuskegee graduate, curator at the Nobel-Hill Wheeler Memorial Center, and the author of the magazine “Our Story”. Erin describes her as a force within the community.

The dynamic of the group is like no other. The future holds so much for Ahmad Hall & Friends. “Malcolm X’s Rawest Speech”

In honor of “Black History Month”, I decided to watch a speech by the late, great Malcolm X. The speech was referred to as “The House Negro and the Field Negro.” It was given in 1963, and applies today. Malcolm went IN during this speech!! He never held his tongue, which made him one of the greatest speakers of all time. Malcolm breaks down what a House Negro is: someone who falls over themselves for “Massa”. There are many House Negros who go out their way to ingratiate themselves to white people.

They love white people more than white people love themselves. Then there is the Field Negro!! A Field Negro can’t stand “Massa” and everything related.

Field Negros outnumber House Negros. Field Negros are about separation, while House Negros support integration. My dude Malcolm was a Field Negro, and unapologetic about it!! During the speech, he called out some famous House Metros, the most notable was Martin Luther King Jr. MLK, Jr. is highly celebrated during “Black History Month” while Malcolm isn’t mentioned by the masses. That is the biggest clue when determining between a House Negro and Field Negro. MLK Jr even has a national holiday, the highest honor for the top House Negro. Malcolm obviously doesn’t have a day that’s recognized by the government, which I personally am happy about. Being recognized by “Massa” is not an accomplishment.

“Black History Month” is not an accomplishment. All BHM does is reveal who’s House Negro and who’s a Field Negro. I am a proud Field Negro!!

Kennitra Pohl, owner of Global Tax Service, is not only a business owner but also a humanitarian who enjoys giving back to the people around her. I had the privilege of getting to know Kay a little better and was able to speak with her about her car ministry as well as her business Global Tax Services.

I was first introduced to Kennitra, who goes by Kay, around Christmas when a colleague of mine forwarded me a video. I was not sure exactly what was going on in the video, but I was quickly brought to tears. There was a lady who was a current employee of Global Tax Services, that was going through a tough time in her life. Two coworkers knew of her situation and reached out to Kay to see if she could help. The interesting thing Kay mentions is that both the coworkers were unaware that the other coworker had reached out for help. And of course, Kay being the giver that she is wanted to assist. It was a surprise to everyone what Kay had planned. So, the day came when it was time to reveal the big surprise and luckily Kay’s sister Brianisha Freeman was there to catch it all on video. Not only did Kay present her with toys and gift cards for her little ones, she presented her with a car. The lady had been using public transportation and with children that was a difficult task but now those days were over. I remember having such as amazing feeling while watching the video and wanting to touch someone’s life just as Kay had. It was a wonderful moment for everyone.

What few may know is that Kay is a few years into her car ministry and that this was not her first time. It’s something that she genuinely enjoys, and her business allows for her to make such charitable donations to the community. When Kay originally got into the tax business she was under another franchise, but like most great businessmen she quickly wanted to branch out on her own.

Mickie Garrett is a 43-year-old mother of three. Residing in Rome, GA for the past 16 years, she is originally from Calhoun GA. Mickie and her husband are the proud owners of Favored Beauty Supply Store located in Calhoun.

The journey to becoming a business owner started back in January of 2017 after God revealed his vision to Mickie. A short time later she suffered an unfortunate hardship. Four hours after purchasing a vehicle she was involved in a terrible car wreck causing her both physical and mental harm. “How can I start a business and I don’t even have transportation to get to work” Mickie asked.

Late September of 2017 God answered by once again revealing the vision he had previously shown her.

Doors started to open, and things began to fall into place. Taking in all her blessings and walking in her purpose she is now the owner of a beauty supply store. Favored Beauty Supply is located at 404 Oothcalooga St in Calhoun and their business hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am-4pm. Products sold range from hair extensions, to perfumes, cologne, purses, and hair products. With plans expanding her inventory, Mickie also has wants to open at least one additional store in the surrounding area.

It’s strange how Black women are the largest consumers of hair extensions and hair products and only own a small fraction of the Black beauty supply industry.

Mickie is one of a small number of Black beauty supply store owners but hopefully that number will continue to expand. Let us show our support by investing in those who invest in the community.

He loved with an intensity that rivaled my own, and with a pureness so sincere it pierced all my defences.

He broke every wall I put up and endured every test.

I did everything I could do to push him away, yet he loved me through it all.

He saw through my “I’m okays”, and made it okay that it wasnt.

This is why I love him He is my rock, my ride or die To him I owe my loyalty, gratitude and respect He dubbed himself my king, and lived up to the name Regal in his strength, and loving in his will He is truly my rock, my bestfriend.

I’m so proud to now be his wife.

I’ve been feeling pain and the pain of feeling unhuggable! Having chest pains at night from feeling unlovable! Waking up in cold sweats witnessing what devils do!

I’m telling you life is too short to be trying to pick and choose. I was five when I first came home. I didn’t know who was who! Worry in my eyes afraid plus I was nervous too. Mama welcomed me at the door with toys and a wagon full of fruit. Saying welcome home with tears in her eye’s then hugged me true. So you can’t tell me that these memories don’t mean a thing to you!

Being cold hearted and pissed off are two different moods. I’d rather be pissed off. If cold hearted I wouldn’t miss you! But we family so we gotta contain this pain in the deepest tissue. Time can heal all wounds together we’re no longer feeling crippled. If we laugh more and smile then no damage do. Removing critical. (Music.) Some heartbeats without speaking.

TEARS FOR SALE

Dismissed by many, the outside world does not count his tear drops, they do not see the pain that he carries through all four seasons. Summer. Winter. Fall, and Spring. Trying to carry the world on his frail, bruised, and neglected back. This man has no choice but to walk straight against his fears that no one else sees or understands. No one stops to ask this man with the bruised ego about the load he is carrying and the price of his tears. Is a dollar enough to lessen your load sir? what is the price for your soul? You lie to the world about your strength, but at night your tears become your sweat, wiping away your insecurities in a world where you are told not to cry.

DESHAIE DRIVER A FIGHT WITH LUPUS Deshaie Driver was born and raised in Rome GA and has two daughter ages 7 and 3. In 2009 at the age of 18, Deshaie was diagnosed with Lupus. Lupus is a disease which attacks the organs in your body and causes them to shut down. Lupus can cause weight loss, hair loss, and rashes. It’s very common in the African American community. She became aware of the illness because of an abnormal menstrual cycle she was having. Unsure what was wrong she went to see a doctor. The doctors were unsure what the problem was initially.

They had Deshaie take several tests, one of which was a bone marrow test. They did not sedate her during the test which is normal, but it was extremely painful. Once the test was completed and the blood work came back and the doctors informed her she had lupus.

Deshaie had no idea what lupus was. To make matters worse, she was later diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This is where one has constant pain in their joints. Even though she was dealing with both illnesses, she still had two daughters she had to care for. She went back to work, but unfortunately that was difficult for her. Deshaie was in constant pain and had to be hospitalized several times. It became hard to maintain a job. The doctor eventually removed her from work. She tried to file for disability but was denied due to her age. She had 3 doctors tell her she couldn’t work and still was not approved for disability benefits. After a while she started to give up but thinking of her children she had to continue to move forward. The doctor suggested she do chemotherapy, so Deshaie was given 8 rounds of chemo over the span of two months.

Deshaie is fighting and will continue to fight because she is a survivor. She has the support of her mother and boyfriend on her side. She keeps busy by doing hair, but soon will stop to focus on her health. In the future she plans to have her girls tested to see if they have Lupus. Knowing the effects of Lupus, she hopes that her girls will not have to endure the hardships she has. Deshaie’s fight continues.

JAY DELBRIDGE; I BEAT THE ODDS

Jay Delbridge is a 23 year old from Stockbridge GA. He is audio engineer and recently became a firefighter. Jay was born with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder caused when there is abnormal brain activity and one suffers from recurrent episodes of seizures. At around age 4, Jay suffered such a severe seizure that it caused him to flatline multiple times after being taken to the hospital. At the time he had no idea what was going on. The doctors did not think he was going to survive. Thankfully he was able to recover.

Years passed and at the age of 13 he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. This happens when there is excess fluid on the brain. Jay had to undergo surgery to remove the extra fluid. They had to drill a hole in his head and drain the fluid from his brain to get rid of the infection. The surgery was a success. The downside was he would have to learn to walk, talk, and eat something that most people take for granted. He began physical therapy which went very well. The doctors predicted years of recovery time, but It only took 3-4 weeks for Jay to start walking again. The doctors were amazed at his speedy recovery. Within 4-5 months he was able to work his way back into his old life. He still attends physical therapy here and there to make sure he was functioning correctly.

Jay was given a 50/50 chance at life, but he beat the odds. He had a lot of fight in him. There are still issues he deals with like losing his balance at times.

Jay now has a different outlook on life. He drinks less and stopped smoking completely in order to ensure his health. Jay has amazing plans for the future which include getting a second degree in cyber technology. He is also thinking of writing about his story to help inspire others going through a similar situation. Jay plans on never wasting life again or taking it for granted. He made it through it all with the love and support of his family and friends and he is forever grateful.

TIA WILLIAMS; I AM A SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Tia Williams is a 24-year-old from Cincinnati Ohio and mother of a 1-year old girl. She is currently in cosmetology school and will graduate in June 2018. Tia began doing hair as an alternative to just being a stay at home mom. Tia and her daughter’s father were together for about 4 years.

They met on Tia’s 21st birthday. She was instantly taken by him because she felt he was a different kind of guy.

He showed her things that were uncommon to her. They had similar pasts and connected on a higher level. Unfortunately, Tia did not know he had another side, but she would later experience it as the relationship progressed.

On Thanksgiving Day Tia and her boyfriend headed out for an evening of fun with a mutual friend. Tia’s boyfriend had been drinking and became jealous of the relationship she and her friend had. He was convinced that the two were sleeping together. He became violent after she refused to leave with him. He started yelling and grabbing at her clothes and somehow ripped her shirt. In nothing but a bra, she ran out and called the police.

The events led Tia to seek refuge in a homeless shelter and her daughter being placed with family. Tia is now in the process of getting her daughter back. Some days are harder than others without her daughter being there.

She attempted suicide but now the thought of her daughter keeps her going. Tia knows what it’s like not to have parents. Tia grew up without a mother due to drug addiction. Her biggest fear is that her daughter will hate her and blame her for her father being absent. Tia did not want her daughter growing up without a dad, but she does not want her to grow up with the trauma of abuse either. If there is an opportunity to get out of a situation like this, then do it.

Walking away is the hardest part but it can be done. After the dust settled Tia is hoping to get her daughter back and her and her daughter’s father can put the past behind them and be parents. She forgives him because it hurts more when you hang on to the hurt and anger.

Tia’s future plans include fashion and modeling. She wants on starting an organization called Diamonds of Destiny. It will give girls the resources and help they need to succeed in life. She says from now on she will love herself more.
