Program Overview

Marmion Academy’s LEAD Program is a fouryear program designed to educate students in leadership skills and give them the opportunity to exercise leadership.

Program Goal

To instill in the student a sense of life-long learning and a commitment of service to school and community.

Leadership Education

This educational program teaches characterbased leadership life-skills by focusing on personal leadership issues during their freshman and sophomore years while moving toward organizational development and relational leadership in their junior and senior years.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Students are given opportunities to work as a team, direct projects, make presentations, and lead others.

PROGRAM UNIQUENESSS

Separate yourself from the Pack!

Since the 1994-1995 school year, Marmion’s LEAD program has been the only curriculum-based leadership education program in the state (and most likely in the country).

To complete a four-year Leadership Education program during high school puts you in a group of roughly 35-40 students per year in the United States who can say the same.

Having the opportunity to take a deeper look into the ways in which you think; with the ability to adjust your thought processes in order to be the best version of yourself is typically only available through graduate studies, but in the LEAD program you can begin this type of high level introspective thinking as a teenager.

Marmion Academy teaches Social Emotional Learning through utilizing the Experiential Learning Model.

Junior and Senior students have the option to take LEAD as a co-ed class with students from Rosary High School, thus enhancing their leadership training through cooperative learning experiences and the inclusion of new perspectives.

“LEAD isn’t really a class to me, it’s more of a life skills course that helps me now and prepares me for the future.”

~ Juan Camarillo ‘20, LEAD Student

“What I have gotten from LEAD so far is the feeling of belonging. From sitting in class, I feel like I can contribute to something that will last me a lifetime. My participation in class has given me insight that I can use every day.”

~ Patrick Desch ‘20, LEAD Student

“I’ve learned what makes a good leader and the qualities needed for leadership. I want to learn how to apply these qualities and be able to analyze a particular situation and know how to respond to it.”

~ Drew Grabacki ‘21, LEAD Student

ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS

“The LEAD program is a one of a kind opportunity to experience and grow in an undervalued field, that being Leadership. The LEAD program presented me with the skills and mindset needed to grow as an individual. I was able to take the tools given to me and incorporate them into my own personal life through things like wrestling, school, and even relationships with my friends and family. The LEAD program aims to mold you into the best version of yourself by preparing you with life skills that are hard to find elsewhere.”

~ Ryan Fleck ‘19, University of Chicago

“Marmion gives leadership, as something both to learn and hone as a skill, the ample respect that it deserves, and the topic of leadership is not reserved to one small class but rather hundreds of classes and events spread over four years through the LEAD program. I’ve had countless opportunities to speak, reflect, debate, discuss, suggest new ideas, and get involved within the program. Through such opportunities, LEAD has given me the confidence, awareness, and skills to approach life outside of Marmion from a new perspective and with a growth mindset.”

~ Mason Hartweger ‘19, Marmion Valedictorian Northwestern University

“The LEAD program has opened my eyes to many different worlds of leadership. LEAD has taught me to take life into perspectives. One of the most impactful lessons LEAD has taught me is to be open to new ideas and opinions because you can learn so much from others. You can’t be an expert in everything, so you might as well learn a little bit of everything.”

~ Jack Bazukas ‘19, University of Missouri

“Empowerment. The LEAD Program empowers the individual. It enables the boy to mold himself into a man, and a man, into a leader. What makes this program so special to me is that after you become empowered by the lifestyle of leadership, it asks that you empower those around you. It evolves from a task, to be of service to others, from a desire, to a way of living.”

~ Miles Childers ’19, Indiana University
