managing projects and looking at the more technical aspects of a project. “I love the industry, especially when we get to turn someone’s dreams into a reality and deliver the project on time and within budget.� The company has faced challenges but, as Max explained, those challenges are dynamic and always changing. In the early years of the company, Perma was the major contractor on provincial government contracts, but as the city grew so did the number of contractors and competition.
“The government doesn’t spend so much on its buildings anymore either. Being diverse in what services we offered made sure we stayed competitive and working.� Many of the challenges facing Mathew revolve around time: not having enough. As Perma’s soon-to-be-president he’s on a sharp learning curve. “Learning the business and all the details is not easy; add to that the running of projects, and family can sometimes take a back seat.
