The Business Lecture Series presented by the Chamber Platinum Partners

Successful Free Business Lecture Partnership Continues To Deliver

P

erthshire Chamber of Commerce and Perth College UHI have teamed up to deliver a series of free lectures designed to inform and inspire local businesses. Held in the College’s Brahan lecture theatre which is sponsored by the Chamber Platinum Partners, the partnership has already held a number of successful lectures. The next lecture in the series will be the Perthshire Tourism Partnership’s Conference on June 22nd where our own President, Stephen Leckie, CE of Crieff Hydro Ltd and Chair of both the Scottish Tourism Forum and the Government’s Tourism Leadership Group will be one of the speakers. This is followed by Platinum Partners RBS who are offering a unique opportunity for businesses to attend the September lecture entitled “Prospects for the UK Economy”. James McCann, Economic Adviser, Group Economics, RBS, will provide an overview of the global and UK economies with a particular emphasis on some of the economic challenges facing Scotland. Binn Skips take the eighth lecture slot in October. The last lecture saw Platinum Partner Highland Spring deliver their presentation entitled: “Improving Performance through our People and Processes”. Highland Spring has been committed to developing and implementing an in-house continuous improvement strategy over the past three years and this lecture outlined the range of tools and techniques used and shared evidence of outstanding results. The Lecture was based around manufacturing, but many of the principles are transferable to other sectors and those attending were all able to take away some aspect of best practice to use in their own areas of work. Attendees were able to participate in a fun and thought provoking production test developed and used for in-house training at Highland Spring. The Business Lecture Series kicked off last November with Perth College UHI’s Centre for Enterprise conference ‘Greenbiz ‘10 Understanding Renewables’. This was followed by Clydesdale Bank’s “Investing for Growth” event in January of this year where attendees heard from Alex McDougal, Senior Partner on the company’s business support facilities and the benefits of working in partnerships for success. Alex was followed by guest speaker David Sands, winner of our coveted Business of the Year Star Award 2010 and Eilidh Smith from Morton of Pitmilly, winner of Best Tourism Business 2010 at the Fife Business Awards. The Chamber Business Lecture in February saw Gavin Oattes of Tree of Knowledge educate, involve and entertain guests as he took them through the importance of having “Fun at Work” and the March lecture took place on St. Patrick’s Day when A&S Properties and Symphony Hotels & Leisure Ltd ran a Mastermind for several local business groups who answered questions from the famous black leather chair. All five of these highly enjoyable evenings provided an opportunity to network with a diverse range of local business people as well as providing business advice that could be taken away and used – both very valuable outcomes from an interesting range of events.
