Worthing Theatres, home of Circus on the south coast Our Summer of Circus launches with three months of the most spectacular and extraordinary international and UK contemporary circus. Right here in Worthing, the new home for circus on the south coast.

The festival features renowned circus performances, amazing new productions and incredible outdoor pieces.

From performances that push the human body to its limits to acts which will have you laughing out loud.

Launching at the Pavilion Theatre, the fast-rising UK based contemporary circus company Lost in Translation Circus bring The Hogwallops. Heart-stopping aerial and floor acrobatics combine to create this quirky family show.

Joining us fresh from their rave reviews in Australia are the Trash Test Dummies! These award-winning, highly skilled circus performers can trash talk with the best of them, showcasing a stunning array of jaw dropping acrobatics, juggling and stunt work. Fun for the whole family!

Next up we have award winning Pirates of the Carabina presenting the stunning show Flown, inviting audiences to delight in the absurdity of contemporary circus life and revel in their daringly beautiful world.

Do something to make you feel alive with workshops and performances from the UK’s only outdoor flying trapeze school, Gorilla Circus, located on Beach Green Lancing from 27 August – 4 September. Anyone with a taste for adventure can come have a swing, completing a simple trick and towards the end of the class, aim to be caught by a catcher on a separate swinging bar. Keep an eye out for the WT Team taking part on the first day!

Circus Geeks X pangottic

Project_Vee We are very excited to launch the Summer of Circus with a newly emerging piece of work from Circus Geeks and X Pangottic, Project_Vee. With a nod to a Soviet era circus act, remixed for the 21st century; steel, concrete and motors meet in an unlikely way with stunning results. Project_Vee takes juggling into a different dimension. Literally!

This thrilling collaboration between Circus Geeks and X Pangottic was initially commissioned by City of London Festival and is produced by The Production Shed. The Project_Vee roulette wheel meets juggling: this heady mix equates to danger, skill and many unpredictable moments.

Project_Vee is commissioned by Without Walls, Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival and Out There, after an original investment by the City of London Festival. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, and support from the National Centre for Circus Arts, Worthing Theatres and 101 Outdoor Arts.

Acrojou

frantic Love, freedom, blood, sweat and rainstorms: Frantic is an explosive acrobatic exploration of our relentless devotion to busyness; the reality of a running mind and one man’s thirst for escape. Frantic features spectacular acrobatics and dancetheatre, choreographed around a wheel, with a hidden water system for a joyous finale danced in pouring rain.

Following the runaway success of The Wheel House, Acrojou’s first outdoor show, Frantic was polled as audience favourite by Xtrax at Greenwich and Docklands International Festival 2014.

GORILLA CIRCUS flying trapeze

Worthing welcomes the UK’s only outdoor flying trapeze school, Gorilla Circus, to Beach Green Lancing this summer.

Classes Anyone with a taste for adventure can come and have a go on one of the only full size flying trapezes in the country open to the public. These classes involve completing a simple trick on a hanging bar, then a trick on the flying trapeze and those who are naturals might have the chance to be caught by a catcher on a separate swinging bar.

With their oldest student to-date being 78, outdoor flying trapeze is for anyone looking for a fun alternative for all. shows For those not wishing to take a class, be astounded by the Gorilla Circus Flying Trapeze Troupe performing their high-flying acrobatic spectacular in the evenings. The performers will flip and twist, catching each other whilst high in the air, and as the tricks get harder, and the performers fly higher, you too will be blown away by this thrilling troupe.

The Vaudevillains Razor sharp theatre group Les Enfants Terribles invite you to The Empire Music Hall for a night you’ll never forget.

Tonight’s show will be a little different as Charlie, the club’s owner, has fallen victim to a murder most foul… but whodunnit? Could it be nervy knife thrower Ray the Blade; sexy Siamese Striplets; The Cerberus Sisters; deranged ventriloquist Albert Frog; macabre mime artist Gaston Gasteau; or perhaps the mystifying magician – The Great Mephisto… circus inspired murder mystery like no other.

Everyone’s a suspect as we discover the secrets of all the weird and wonderful acts who have found themselves upon The Empire’s bill.

Arc - Three people find themselves stranded together, suspended in the air. Arc examines the instability of a triangle where relationships form and break apart and explores the experience of isolation in close proximity.

Every Action - A playful look at the bonds that form when people are thrown together. Four strangers meet before twentyfive metres of suspended rope. As they explore this elevated set of scales, they discover a world where everything you do will affect someone, somewhere.

Memento Mori - An award winning, powerful duet performed on a suspended metal frame. It is based on Holbein’s woodcuts of The Dance of Death, where death is represented as a skeleton that dances each of us to our grave.

CircusSeen Children's Workshops: Circus Bootcamp

WT are proud to work in partnership with CircusSeen C.I.C, a local community interest company set up to encourage and support the growing scene of circus in Sussex.

CircusSeen aims to provide people with opportunities to learn, play and perform circus skills. They offer a range of workshops for all ages and abilities which encourages students to work with balance, coordination, fine and gross motor skills as well as helping improve concentration, social interaction and communication skills.

During the festival, the team will provide a number of all day circus workshop bootcamps. Children will have the opportunity to learn juggling, poi, hooping, stilts, diabolo, tight wire, aerial silks and more! Then in the last half hour the students take part in a stage performance to show off their new skills to their parents and guardians.
