Students’ surprise meeting in Big Apple It’s a small world as North Devon students meet Chancellor George Osborne during New York visit Students from West Buckland School in North Devon enjoyed a trip to New York over the Christmas holidays which included a surprise encounter with Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. The Chancellor was in New York to address the United Nations Security Council and met the pupils whilst touring The Frick Collection art museum where he was happy to pose for photographs and selfies. The West Buckland students were spending five days in New York which included visits to the Empire State Building, the United Nations Headquarters, the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Madison Square Garden where they saw the New York Knicks take on Orlando Magic. Head of Sixth Form Jonathan Ralph, who led the trip, said: “It was an incredible trip that had so many highlights and was a great experience for all of us. “Bumping into Chancellor George Osborne was unexpected but certainly memorable and he was very friendly and happy to spend some time talking to us.”
