A very warm welcome to Autumn Season 2024 at Omnibus Theatre. Energised by an electric Summer programme, we look forward to filling our building with another vibrant season of work.
I’m thrilled to introduce our annual inhouse production The Ice at the End of the World, written by award-winning improviser Katy Schutte. This cosmic-horror inspired by real events, follows a group of artists as they journey to the Arctic to create their greatest work while living dangerously on the ‘edge of the world’.
Two productions which started life in Engine Room: My Life as a Cowboy; a heartwarming queer comedy and Mulatto Boy; a bold, spoken word solo show exploring the relationship between Black mixed-race and British identity also feature this season.
We also bring you a season of work from Southeast and East Asian artists, featuring resident artists’ monthly performances in Moongate Mix, and also The Lonesome Death of Eng Bunker, English Ako, The Dreams of Being a Madame and The Rise of Hermit.
Two shows fresh from Edinburgh Fringe; Winner of the Summerhall Lustrum Award, Nan, Me & Barbara Pravi is a critically acclaimed memoir of care, crisis and Eurovision from Hannah Maxwell, and Fringe First Winner, Club Life is an immersive joyride through crazy clubland adventures from Fred Deakin.
Shining a spotlight on unique true stories, new musical Make Good: The Post Office Scandal is a co-production between Pentabus and New Perspectives. Informed by conversations with Sub-Postmasters, this responsive production by Jeanie O’Hare (book) and Jim Fortune (music and lyrics) is a story of resilience in the face of one of the gravest miscarriages of justice in British history.
We’re also pleased to welcome for the first time; Terrifying Women from Sampira Al Fihri, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and Abi Zakarian, and Rotten directed by Omnibus patron Rikki Beadle-Blair.
Christmas is an advent calendar of delights with something for everyone, from comedy to theatre for young audiences and live music. Highlights include St Nicholas: (written by Conor McPherson), Bill a raucous, genre defying piece of musical docu-theatre and the return of Seven Steps Big Band with their festive offering of Christmas music.
Monthly events coming up include; So This is What Happened - true stories from real people, Cabaret style night Fridaze and improvisation group Avocado see the theatre transformed into a Comedy Club.
There are so many new worlds to explore through our theatre doors this Autumn, I look forward to seeing you there.

Country is cool now… isn’t it?
Conor is 17. He lives with his mum in Croydon. He works at a leisure centre. He’s gay. Life is not what he expected, and he’s worried he might be… well, a loser. He dreams of moving away, of being noticed, of being a somebody.
When he hears about an opportunity to perform on stage at the very questionable Croydon Peoples Day, he hatches a plan to indulge his passion of country and western dancing and show the world just how cool he is. But he needs help.
Enter best friend Zainab and fellow lifeguard Michael. Can they be convinced that this isn’t in fact the biggest loser plan ever? Might they even join Conor on stage for his debut country and western bonanza performance?
In Bruntwood Prize-longlisted playwright Hugo Timbrell’s hilarious and heart-warming story of friendship, courage and cowboy dance moves, these three unlikely teenagers learn what it really means to dance, to embrace your weird side, and to show up for your mates.
Directed by Scott Le Crass (Rose, West End), this ‘complete comic delight’ (Boyz magazine) is the all-singing, all-dancing queer coming of age story you need this summer.

“We do not take the journey; the journey takes us."
Set on a tall ship, a selected group of artists voyage to The Arctic Circle. The aim? To create their finest work, inspired by life on the ‘edge of the world’.
However, not everyone is suited to the terrain: isolated from her emails and barista coffee, successful poetry translator, Alys is forced onto the creaking boat by her publisher to live with a group of strangers. While crossing the perilous ‘Devil’s Dancefloor’, all communication with the outside world is lost and the mysterious Arctic guide, Laura challenges the others to give in to the elements.
As the ice melts, exposing dangers from an ancient world, the true wild nature of the Arctic is revealed, along with the increasing deep marks left on its environment by humanity. Through infinite days and nights on the waves, the artists’ work becomes more dangerous and an ancient being is stirring from the cold dark waters beneath. How far will each go to create the greatest work of their lifetime?
The Ice at the End of The World is inspired by writer Katy Schutte’s recent real-life journey to the Arctic. Directed by Madelaine Moore and produced in association with Omnibus Theatre for their Autumn Season, this new cosmic horror explores the powers of the natural world and how far humans will go to match them.

Meet the Artistic Director! We’re throwing open the digital doors for you to have an online chat with Marie McCarthy, our AD. Whether you want to discuss an idea, collaborate, find out about our artist development schemes or pitch your show to be in our programme.
During an online face-to-face conversation, we can cover so much more ground than by email; my response rate is quicker and our dialogue is more directional. Many of the artists I’ve spoken to so far have struggled to make contact with organisations – they have scripts and ideas they want to develop, but they might not know how to go about this or who to talk to. Wednesday Chats is there to help artists take control, feel valued and acknowledge their work. From personal experience as an actor and theatre maker, I remember how difficult it was to make contact with venues – organisations can feel impenetrable and artists can feel stuck in a waiting game. It also allows us to identify where and how further development can happen.”
Everyday before and after the show, we serve a menu of hot drinks, craft beers, wine and seasonal cocktails. From Wednesday– Sunday, we provide a menu of delicious pastries and snacks.
Every 1st Sunday of the month.
Every 2nd Sunday of the month.
Every 3rd Sunday of the month.
Every 4th Sunday of the month.
