A message from Mr Copeland
As the doors close at Hymers Hessle Mount for the final time, I wanted to say a huge thank you to the staff team, parents and families for all of your continued support.
There are a number of families with a deep connection to Hessle Mount; we have parents who played on the very field that their children have been playing on and grandparents who have dropped off their children and now grandchildren at the school. I understand that emotions have been high for many over the Summer Term and that a number of you share many happy memories of the school. When I arrived at Hessle Mount in September 2022, it was a new venture for Hymers. Due to the foundations put in place by the Cutting family and the outstanding staff team I feel we soon hit the ground running. It did not take long for the family feel of the school to become apparent and I hope that you will agree that the warm and nurturing environment has remained in place. The school and the site aided this, however, this mainly came from the staff; from their kindness, understanding, and genuine care and love for what they do. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children and helping to guide them through the earliest steps of their education and will continue to do so.
Becoming part of Hymers in 2022 has enhanced the educational offering for the children, with the use of specialist facilities, resources and staffing, increased interactions with role models from the older year groups and the implementation of the House System and the school CARE Code - something that we are very proud of.
The final few weeks of term have, as always, been incredibly busy. We were blown away by the confidence of our Pre-School and Year 2 pupils in
their performances to parents and families. We enjoyed the visit of the 128-year-old Challenge Cup trophy, even if some were not too happy with the colour of the ribbons!
On the final Monday, the children took part in induction activities to aid the transition to their new classes in September; it was great to see everyone following the values of the CARE Code and welcoming the new pupils who will be joining their classes in September.

On the final Thursday evening we enjoyed a fabulous leavers’ party, and it was lovely to welcome so many families to this event. The children enjoyed the bouncy castles and inflatable slides, but the ice cream van was especially popular. I would like to say a big thank you to our chef, Tom, and his team at Holroyd Howe for the delicious BBQ they provided.
I am immensely grateful to the outstanding Hymers Hessle Mount staff team for everything that they have done

Once again we were blessed with warm sunny weather as we hosted our Sports Day on the Junior School field. Every pupil from three to seven years old was involved in a number of races throughout the afternoon. The children’s determination was evident and it was great to see them cheering on friends from other Houses and year groups. Congratulations to this year’s winners - Brandesburton!
We have also been receiving regular duckling updates and were informed that they are now old enough to enjoy a life of freedom after being released on a beautiful lake.

in my three years at the school.
A large number of them are moving over to the Hymers site in September although some members of staff are moving to pastures new, be that different workplaces or taking a wellearned retirement. To these members of staff I want to extend a heart-felt thank you and good luck from all in the Hymers Hessle Mount community.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back to the next chapter in September!
Our final half term is now complete and what a busy one we have had! We started by transforming the Pre-School into a jungle safari. The children thoroughly enjoyed becoming explorers, creating binoculars and hats to go on a fun expedition in search for wild escaped animals.
Everyone worked so hard learning songs about our topic and the accompanying dance routines, which we also used for our performance, and we are so proud of how well they did on the day.
The children have had a fantastic time exploring the Pre-School setting linked to our weekly texts The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Rumble in the Jungle and Poppy’s Tail They’ve had tea with a tiger, used different tails to get into character as different animals and tried to figure out who out of their friends matches the baby pictures. In Maths we have been learning about 2D shapes, sharing, positional language and matched numerals to a quantity. In Phonics, we have been focusing on identifying initial letter sounds from letters of our names, animals,
colours and objects. The children are becoming so confident in subitising toorecognising objects in a small group without counting them individually.
We finished off the term by introducing the children to Uncle Matt (the brave Fraggle explorer) who is travelling around the world. We located his current whereabouts on a map and discussed what he would need when visiting in the wet, humid jungle. The children identified key features of jungles, what species Uncle Matt might encounter and ways he can keep himself safe from dangerous animals!

What an amazing half term we have had in Reception! Our work has been based around the “Where shall we go today?” theme. We have talked about our favourite holidays and confidently discussed them with our classmates. We have been on an imaginary trip and wrote a postcard to our family back home telling them all about our adventures and, of course, the weather! We have also compared travelling in the past to our holidays now and were fascinated to learn that

We are beyond proud of all the Pre-School pupils and how hard they have worked! We hope those moving into Reception settle in beautifully. We shall miss you over the summer and we are already looking forward to seeing you in September.
RECEPTION
people did not use suncream to protect their skin as it had not yet been invented.

We finished this half term with a pirate-themed week and spent a swashbuckling time dressing up in our role-play areas, going on a treasure hunt, making pirate crafts and playing pirate games! We listened to pirate stories including Pirate Pete by Kim Kennedy and enjoyed making Wanted posters to help capture Pete and his crew.

Our Sports Day at Hymers Junior School was so much fun; the children particularly liked travelling by coach and taking part in the running and sack races. We were so impressed by their great sportsmanship and behaviour. They were an absolute credit to our school. It has been such a busy year and we are so proud of the children’s progress and achievements in Reception. They have been such a pleasure
to teach, making a great start on their academic journey through school. We wish them the best of luck in Year 1.

YEAR 1
Wow! Another half term has passed and the boys and girls have been busy! They have worked so hard in all of their lessons and we are so proud to see the wonderful progress they have made during the year. In English, the children enjoyed writing short stories about an animal of their choosing. We were blown away by their super imagination! We then went on to read The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. The children especially enjoyed the rhymes in the book and produced some amazing work linked to the story, including news reports, postcards and letters. Our Art lessons have been particularly enjoyable this term as we have created a number of wild animal pieces! The children have brought together techniques we have developed over the year to work on some stunning creations, such as colour-wash leopards and oil pastel lions. It has been amazing to see everyone develop their creativity and evaluate their own work. Well done to all of them! We were delighted to see so many parents and families join us for Sports Day. It was lots of fun to enjoy a picnic together before the event and to spend some time soaking in the atmosphere of the day. We are sure you will all agree that the children did an amazing job representing their

Houses. It was so lovely to see such sportsmanship as they cheered one another on - even the heat did not deplete their energy.

It was also a hot day when we went along to Tranby Park Care Home to join in with garden games. The residents loved seeing the children enjoy themselves and we were so proud of how well everyone behaved. They were certainly ready for the ice-creams and juice we enjoyed before returning back to school!
The children have worked incredibly hard this year, demonstrating such positive attitudes to their learning. We are so proud to see them embark on the next chapter of their school life as they move into Year 2 in September. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with each and every one of you.

It has been a jam-packed final half term at Hymers Hessle Mount for Year 2!
We have really enjoyed learning about The Twits and their terrible behaviour. We had fun writing gruesome expanded noun phrases for what might have been found in Mr Twit’s beard and our own horrible new characters were really, really awful! The makeover we gave Mrs Twit probably would not have worked, but we had fun trying!

In Maths we have looked at understanding duration of time; how long things take and how to work out the difference in lengths of time. We have been practising our positional language and working out quarter, half and whole turns of shapes and objects.
In Science we have learned about plants and carried out an experiment to find out what cress seeds need to grow healthily. We put some white flowers and celery in different coloured water to see what would happen. Unfortunately it appeared to have had no impact at all, which made us realise that Science experiments do not always work, but this was a valuable lesson too!
Our study of the Great Fire of London has been really interesting and we have learned a lot: We made models of the houses in Pudding Lane and recreated the fire on our school field. Just like in 1666, it was hot, dry and windy, and the flames spread quickly. Soon all our hard work was reduced to a pile of ash, but it really brought history to life!
The children were fabulous from start to finish in our production of

A Hint of Snow White; it was an ambitious project, but we knew they could pull it off - and they did! From learning their lines really quickly and their fantastic attitude in rehearsals to their confident, joyful performances they impressed everybody. Well done, Year 2, you have been an absolute pleasure to teach this year and we look forward to hearing about your amazing achievements in Year 3.
