PeakPleasures Highly recommended: Walk in the Fisser Gonde Fisser Gonde, or simply Gonde, is located above the Möseralm at an altitude of 1,820-1,950m. In 1978 the 40,000sqm area of land was declared a nature reserve.

This rock formation of pale boulders is part of the Engadin window, a tectonic window that exposes the deeper layers of the Alps.

The mountainsides around the Gonde form part of the Samnaun Alps that are composed mainly of Bündner schist, quartz phyllite and quartzite. According to geologists, the whitish quartzite rocks once formed

reef-like cliffs that caved in as a result of weathering over the ages. Today, these cliffs present as huge boulders with fantastic butts and fissures. They are surrounded by dense spruce forest and plant species that are at home on the Alpine tree line. These include the creeping pine, dwarf larches and the red snow rose. The landscape is also carpeted in Alpine azalea, mosses and lichens in which cranberries, bilberries, Alpine sand berries and club moss compete for their place in the sun.

This natural monument can be explored along an interesting themed walk that starts at the Skyswing in the Summer Fun Park Fiss.

Walk takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours Elevation gain: 150m The themed walk is an adventure for the whole family.

Bernhard Aichner and Thomas Raab are great friends as well as ‘partners in crime fiction’, which is another reason why they like to organise two or three joint readings a year: ‘It’s always special, and we have so much fun’. As does their audience! ‘We’re delighted that the Pregenzer family asked us to perform at their hotel in Fiss.’

Both authors have had international success with their work in recent years. Raab‘s recent novel ‘STILL’ has been published in Japan, the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland and the Netherlands. Aichner’s thriller ‘Woman of the Dead’ has been translated into many different languages including English. Their crime fiction series, centred on the gravedigger Max Broll and the furniture restorer Willibald Adrian Metzger respectively, also enjoy extraordinary popularity. At the crime fiction summit in Fiss, Aichner and Raab will for the first time read extracts from their new thrillers, which are not due be published until August. We’re in suspense!

Thomas Raab – biographical profile Thomas Raab was born in 1970 in Vienna, where he lives with his family. The mathematics and sports graduate works as a novelist, composer and musician. Thomas Raab has been awarded numerous literary and musical nominations and prizes, most recently the 2013 Leo Perutz Prize. His Willibald Adrian Metzger novels are among the most successful crime fiction in Austria.

Two of the books were filmed in 2014 with Robert Palfrader in the lead role. His novel ‘STILL’ also made it into the bestseller lists.

The next Metzger thriller is due out this autumn.

Bernhard Aichner – biographical profile Bernhard Aichner was born in 1972 in East Tyrol. An author and photographer, he is based in Innsbruck, Austria. Aichner writes crime thrillers, novels, radio dramas and plays. He has been awarded several literary prizes and scholarships, most recently the 2014 Burgdorfer Krimipreis and the 2015 Crime Cologne Award.

His thriller ‘Woman of the Dead’ was one of the Financial Times’ top summer books for 2015, one of the Telegraph’s Best Crime Fiction Books for 2015, and described by the Independent as ‘an ironclad guarantee of sleepless nights’.

5th Tractor & Vintage Car Meet in SerfausFiss-Ladis

18 – 23 July 2016 The MOUNDS family festival presents a fab programme of events that includes star guest performances from Monday to Saturday. Music, hands-on action, and entertainment for the kids from Monday to Friday.

Each day culminates in a concert by child and teen stars in Fiss’ festival area (Schönjochbahn valley station) at 4pm.

The highpoint of the MOUNDS festival is a performance by LENA (Lena Meyer-Landrut) on Saturday, 23 July 2016 at 8.45pm.

24 & 25 September 2016

Action-packed nights in Fiss Tuesday 5 and 19 July; 2, 16 and 30 August This fun-packed programme starts at 6pm: lift off on the Fisser Flieger or the Skyswing, toboggan down to the valley on the Fisser Flitzer, or enjoy Tyrolean specialities at the Möseralm mountain restaurant. The grand spectacle starts in the evening ambience of the Summer Funpark on the Möseralm: Delight in both modern and traditional live acts such as the Musikkapelle Fiss, a traditional costume group, and many other artists.

The Tractor and Vintage Car Meet has become a traditional fixture of Serfaus’ annual Autumn Festival. Every year, the ‘oldies gathering’ culminates in a grand car rally across the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis plateau, which ends at the Autumn Festival in Serfaus. There is also much else for enthusiasts of these nostalgic vehicles to see, learn and admire.

Operating hours: The Möseralm cable car operates from 6pm to 10pm Admission: €7.10 free entry for children born after 2002.

Flying Circus: 21st international model aircraft festival Fiss 7 – 10 July 2016 Fiss gives you wings – this July, Fiss is the centre of the Alpine model aircraft flying scene as the 21st international model aircraft festival gets underway on our sunny plateau. A fun four-day programme for young and old that includes model making and glider displays and a flight competition.
