2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” “Having therefore”: Continuing or rather concluding the argument of 6:14-18. “Having”: “As these great promises are ours” (Mof). “These”: “In the original, these is very emphatic. The character of the promises, and the remembrance of who it is that made them must stimulate the Christian to play his part in satisfying the conditions of their fulfillment” (Tasker p. 100). The promises under consideration are those mentioned in 6:16-18. God has actually promised "sonship" to mere mortals.
