Live/Work incubator Meatpacking District, NY, NY Second Year: Spring 2010 Dialogue: (n.) an exchange of ideas or opinions on a particular issue.

The Live/Work Incubator will have a focus of Atmosphere Ocean Studies. Atmosphere Ocean Studies understands how the atmosphere and ocean work together to produce present day climate. The architecture of the incubator will support a collaborative environment with intentions of brainstorming, analyzing and formulating. Within the incubator, research environments will thrive off of different means of communication. The dialgoue will have a communication flow from technology to people, people to people, architecture to spaces and spaces to people.

Ihlseng cottage University Park, State College, PA Third Year: Fall 2010 The Ihlseng Cottage is home to the Institute of Arts and Humanities. The collaboration within is noted as, “under one roof, across two colleges.� Currently supporting nine scholars, the program provides opportunity for personal research and interdisciplinary interactions. As is, the Ihlseng Cottage is a more closed quarters environment. Reflecting the intentions of the institute, what is needed is an environment conducive to socializing, collaborating and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Juxtaposing assigned program against multifunctional spaces is an open opportunity to fill the space inbetween with interaction.

Thesis Abstract Times Square, NY, NY Fifth Year: Fall 2012

There has always been a strong correlation between revolution and innovation, but what was once recognized as monumental moments of time is now unrecognizable. In The Comedy of Survival Joesph Meeker states that "humanity may have to settle for the distinction of being the first species ever

to understand the cause of its own extinction."

The comic way represents means of survival -not to be the hero, but just to continue living. This representation will be the foundation of a new revolution, a revolution to survive. In a world of ever accelerating life, how will humanity slow down?

Living in the “information age,” we have brought on an information overload, an overload with unproductive networks. Innovation has become recognized as expected upgrades and solutions -resulting in products. Products only add to the density of what needs to be maintained. Therefore the problem is...

We do not change what we do -our behavior.

We only change what we use -the products.

This thesis addresses the current condition of society- claiming value and significance, including in architecture, are being tested. The thesis recognizes our acceleration and overload, places question in our future, and seeks a “cause for pause.”

The current condition of society is that there is no threat in the consquences of innovation.

The thesis claims that the preferred state is to intervene in the problem/product cycle -with every problem, as a society, we answer with products, and therefore, we create new problems. This intervention point is where we re-write the rules to replace the product with strategy. The program is a composition of a public opportunity that meets a Think Tank -more commonly tapped into by government, politics, and acadameia.

The program is intended to spark and facilitate a patient revolution-one associated with an unimaginable occurrence, yet presented as a constantly anticipating architectural space. The anticipation is to motivate humanity and in a “cause for pause,” humanity is intended to create reflection and restraint. In the end, the green moves beyond the building into the landscape of Times Square and that may just be how it was meant to stand all along.

The 112th John Stewardson Memorial Fellowship in Architecture 2013 Bucks County, PA Fifth Year: 10 Day Charette Competition Prompt: Explore the notions of Spirituality, Environmental Stewardship, Energy Neutrality, and Architectural Excellence via the design of a Monastery for the Order of the Cistercians.

A monastic life for The Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance is one of manual labor, self-sustenance, prayer and an atmosphere of silence. This proposal has the intention of capturing an environment of silence, where focus is placed on self-sustenance in function and self-sustenance in prayer, both coming together in a communal space. The Cistercian Monks live a balanced life between a relationship with nature, a relationship with spirit, and relationships with others. The breakdown and organization of this proposal supports the Monks effort by creating a succession where nature meets function, function meets the individual monk, and each individual meets the community.
