The Smug Lizard

The Smug Lizard An original fable written by Mariscela RĂ­os, Aracelis Guevara and Judith Gil

Once upon a time a great Lizard who always boasted of being the strongest and most agile of all the animals that lived in a large garden.

He enjoyed bothering the smaller animals.

"You are such insignificant beings, however, I am quick, strong, and very smart”, said the Lizard, “every one of you would like to be as majestic as I am”.

A small ant of a nearby anthill saw angrily what that slippery and smug Lizard always

did since her other friends always feared to play outside knowing that they could meet the Lizard.

One day the little ant was playing outside the anthill when the Lizard appeared and mocking he said, “how small

you are hahaha… I Bet not even a thousand of you could defeat me”. ¡You must not underestimate others! exclaimed the ant angrily, “one day you will know that it is not a good idea to bother others, maybe things will be reversed against you. No one, even of your size is free from danger, things can change for you.

ยกYou insolent ant!

Run away before I crush in a heartbeat, said the Lizard.

The little Ant ran as fast as she could and reached the anthill where she stood for a long time without leaving.

On a sunny day, the Lizard was bothering a group of ladybugs when he saw a great

shadow approaching him and as he turned, he noticed an eagle flying behind.

The Lizard ran as fast as it could, but the eagle hurt him on one of its legs.

Wounded and unable to walk well, he exclaimed for help, but no one in that garden

wanted to help because of his cruel behavior before.

With the winter approaching, it was the turn of the ants of seeking food and, the Lizard unable to walk and weak because of its wounds greatly regretted about his situation and also for having been mean, becoming an easy prey

for the small but numerous ants who took him to the anthill to make him their food.

Moral: Strength does not depend on size. Do not underestimate others because one never knows when we will need help.
