ollowing a £21m building programme, a new A&E unit has recently opened at Croydon University Hospital. Designed by local clinicians, it is intended to speed up the provision of the different types of treatment required by the hugely divergent range of A&E attendees and is 30% bigger than the old department. It will also provide greater privacy for patients since each treatment room has a door and privacy curtain. Treatment for adults and children is completely separate, creating a much more child-friendly environment for families. The funding was won by the former Conservative MP for Croydon Central, Gavin Barwell and announced in 2015.
Save Shirley Library! Help the fight to keep it open Secret plans by the Labour Council to close Shirley Library were uncovered by Croydon Conservatives, following 9 months of the report being hidden from public scrutiny.
Prospective Conservative MP Mario Creatura said; “it’s a disgrace that our Labour Council commissioned this report in secret and attempted to bury it from public scrutiny.”
In a report by consultants Red Quadrant, Shirley Library was singled out to be sold off, meaning more unpopular Brick-by-Brick developments could go up in library-shaped holes in the hearts of local communities.
“Residents in Shirley deserve a Council and an MP who will stand up for what’s right, who will protect public services and be honest with them when difficult decisions need to be taken. I will fight to save Shirley Library.”
Shirley Conservatives oppose the proposals and are leading the campaign to save Shirley Library.

Shirley Residents’ Newsletter
Bring power to people over planning decisions Residents of Croydon have for too long been ignored under this Labour Council. Planning is a key example of this - with unwanted planning applications granted against residents wishes.
That’s why the Croydon Conservatives favour a system of area planning committees. It would bring democracy and control of the community closer to local people. Under this system, decisions about the designated area would be made by councillors who represent wards much closer to the application site under review.
No one would be able to as easily wash their hands of the decisions they make as they to do today, under the current system. The Croydon Conservatives proposed the system of area planning committees earlier in the year, but it was rejected by Labour. Croydon residents deserve to be listened to - so we will keep fighting for our system of Area Planning Committees to bring power closer to the people!

COUNCIL FAILS TO CLEAN OUR STREETS
that can be inspected, so streets in Shirley are now rarely cleaned. Assisted collections for disabled and vulnerable people have been a particular problem, as correct data was apparently not transferred to the new crews.
Many people are unaware that the Labour Council changed the way it cleans streets in April last year. Previously there was a schedule which included every street in the borough.
Your local Councillors Jason and Scott – and the local Conservatives - opposed the change.
Now however, streets are cleaned on a ‘needs basis’ - they are only cleaned when it has been identified, either by a Council inspector or from a report by a member of the public, that cleaning is required. There are only so many streets
For now, the best way to get streets cleaned more frequently is to report them. This can be done by downloading the mobile app, ‘Don’t mess with Croydon’ or you can contact Jason or Scott using their email addresses on the previous page.
Croydon’s Labour Council have failed to clean our streets. Your local Conservatives are leading the campaign for cleaner streets!
