ollowing a £21m building programme, a new A&E unit has recently opened at Croydon University Hospital. Designed by local clinicians, it is intended to speed up the provision of the different types of treatment required by the hugely divergent range of A&E attendees and is 30% bigger than the old department. It will also provide greater privacy for patients since each treatment room has a door and privacy curtain. Treatment for adults and children is completely separate, creating a much more child-friendly environment for families. The funding was won by the former Conservative MP for Croydon Central, Gavin Barwell and announced in 2015.
Save Shirley Library! Help the fight to keep it open Secret plans by the Labour Council to close Shirley Library were uncovered by Croydon Conservatives, following 9 months of the report being hidden from public scrutiny.
Prospective Conservative MP Mario Creatura said; “it’s a disgrace that our Labour Council commissioned this report in secret and attempted to bury it from public scrutiny.”
In a report by consultants Red Quadrant, Shirley Library was singled out to be sold off, meaning more unpopular Brick-by-Brick developments could go up in library-shaped holes in the hearts of local communities.
“Residents in Shirley deserve a Council and an MP who will stand up for what’s right, who will protect public services and be honest with them when difficult decisions need to be taken. I will fight to save Shirley Library.”
Shirley Conservatives oppose the proposals and are leading the campaign to save Shirley Library.
