Designed by local clinicians, it is intended to speed up the provision of the different types of treatment required by the hugely divergent range of A&E attendees and is 30% bigger than the old department. It will also provide greater privacy for patients since each treatment room has a door and privacy curtain. Treatment for adults and children is completely separate, creating a much more child-friendly environment for families. The funding was lobbied for by the former Conservative MP for Croydon Central, Gavin Barwell and announced in 2015.

‘Binmageddon’ hits Forestdale in January  A series of missed refuse collections across Forestdale by the Labour Council caused chaos for residents over Christmas and the New Year. Residents in flats all across the area contacted Andy and Stuart to say their bins had not been collected, complaining of overflowing bin houses infested with rats and maggots. Consequently, many were forced to take their waste to the recycling centre at Forestdale shops – with the result that the centre was literally flooded with black bin bags.

Andy and Stuart reported problems with Holmbury Grove, Pennycroft, Woodpecker Mount, Hartscroft and Sorrel Bank, as these were raised with us by residents, though there may have been many more. Andy and Stuart also spoke to the contract manager for Veolia, who collect bins on behalf of the Council, who has acknowledged that their current system for Forestdale is not working and they need to look at a new approach.

Andy and Stuart have presented a petition to the Labour Council calling for the penalties that Veolia pay the Council for missed collections be used to reimburse residents. Sadly, Labour decided to keep the money Veolia pays for Forestdale’s misery. There is a public meeting for Forestdale residents in March to meet Veolia to discuss the best way to improve the situation. If you would like to attend, please contact Andy or Stuart for more information.
