Introduction: Animal Photography

We as humans once belonged to the same diaspora that animals did. Perhaps this is why we love living close to nature or rush towards her the moment we get an chance to. Research shows that we are still cavemen at heart although we live in city houses. The basic wiring in our brains and how we interact are the same as thousands of years ago. Nature is where we still belong. Animal or more popularly called wildlife photography is about capturing a split second, when the light and the animal behavior come together to create an emotional image. Whether your subject is a wild animal in the jungle or a pet/domesticated one at home, their behavior is usually the same. More than a taste of adventure and accomplishment animal photography also offers a sense of belongingness to the planet. Having patience, persistence and perseverance are the three key parameters to be good at animal photography. Presented here-within are a few best photographers from the genre whose admirable work should inspire you for sure.

Adolfo CArli Milano, Italia

facebook.com/adolfo.carli.7

I consider myself an amateur photographer with special interest in certain fields of photography. I really love to travel and as a result I try to find the best of opportunities for shooting during my travels.

Wildlife does make an obvious choice as I when it comes to choosing an opportunity to shoot. Besides this, I have had interest in Architecture and Reportage and in the past few years, I have discovered Minimal style of photography as well. Even though at first sight, it doesn’t seem to offer much scope for shooting unless someone looks at the things from a creative point of view, and then, the possibilities are endless. Wildlife photography comes with challenges a b o u n d a s t h e a n i m a l s a re s w i f t a n d unpredictable. You need great amount of patience, perseverance and readiness to get the shots of your choice. 10

Maria Cristina Pasotti Milano, Italia

facebook.com/mariacristina.pasotti instagram.com/cristinapasotti/ 500px.com/mariacristinapasotti

I’m an amateur photographer and my favorite photographic genres are architecture, street and naturalistic photography.

About four years ago I started exhibiting my photographs in several collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In 2019 I took part in an exhibition at a gallery in Rue de Seine in Paris (Galerie Etienne de Causans) during the Paris Photo Award 2019 and my photo was sold to a Parisian collector. Furthermore, I published 2 portfolios in the magazine Idea Visiva, run by the FIAF’s president Giorgio Tani. Recently, I received an Honorable Mention at IPA 2020 for a photo in the Historic Architecture Category (October 2020). It’s the fourth time that I am publishing my photos with WePhoto and I’m very thankful to Mario Buncuga and his staff. 22

My name is Loredana Beschi. I am passionate about photography for several years but until recently I have only clicked with analog cameras, developing and printing by myself exclusively in black and white.

It's been just a while since I ca-me close to digital photography. I like to photo-graph mainly landscapes and animals, a genre I've been lately passionate about, and I really en-joy doing it. Do take a closer look. Since 1992, I have been part of the Artimmagine group based in Montichiari (BS). 34

Paola Tedoldi Milano, Italia

I am Paola Tedoldi from Milan. Traveling has always been my passion. I always used to click photos during my travels, but I would use my camera only in the auto-mode.

In September 2017 I took a basic course in photography and from that moment onwards I became passionate enough to buy my first SLR. I then did two more courses and along my path I realized that the subjects I loved to photograph most were animals. I have always loved photography but initially I wasn’t able to observe the details. Gradually I delved deeper and started learning the art of seeing things around me. Lately I have been approaching the other genres of photography, such as portrait and landscapes, more so because in photography one is never finished learning. 46

Patrizia Baj Torino, Italia

instagram.com/my_minimal_lessismore instagram.com/mosso_creativo

My name is Patrizia Baj. I was born and continue to live in Turin. I have always enjoyed the pleasure of freezing a shape, an image or an emotion in a photograph. But the real passion for photography, complete with style and technique, arose 10 years ago thanks to my current partner. And that made me buy my first camera and the first lens set. At first I photographed everything, from nature to landscape, from macro to still life, and from portraiture to street photography.

As I learned the concepts and my passion grew, I began to be selective of my photographic subjects. I have recently dedicated two years to the intentional camera movement style that has brought me so much of emotional satisfaction, but during past year I have rediscovered a photographic genre that often surfaced in my mind but never materialized: minimalism. Less is more is also part of my lifestyle as much as it is a great passion to me. It is a photographic genre that has showed things around me in a new perspective, with the eye always looking for the essential elements - geometry and beauty of simplicity. Nature is another theme that fascinates me, which is represented well in the proposed shots. Thanks WePhoto for this fabulous opportunity. I feel pride in the league of great authors who over the years have given life to these wonderful eBooks. 58

Sandro Argenti Bologna, Italia

facebook.com/sandro.argenti/ flickr.com/photos/sandroargenti/sets/

Born in Bologna in 1961, I started photographing with a Minolta X300 and then landed in the world of Nikon with an F801. After having understood Nikon so closely, I switched to an F90X, then to the F4S, continuing to use only slides and always preferring t h e fa n ta st i c Ve lv i a 5 0 co m b i n a t i o n . a n d Kodachrome 25 and 64. Having landed digitally with the D70 I then moved on to the D200 then to the D700, to the D800e to finally the current D850.

I have always been passionate about nature, animals and travel, passions that I am lucky enough to be able to share with my wife Fabiola and my daughter Chiara, cultivating in particular a great attraction for Africa and the Great North. Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, Alaska and Hudson Bay are absolutely unforgettable for me with the incredible charm of polar bears. I deeply respect nature, people and animals. I never shoot them if doing it disturbs me. I have a dislike for fake photography. If there is something in the scene that I don't like, I will avoid taking it rather than eliminating it in post production. I try to tell the scene as it really is, always choosing my subjects from the free world than the ones kept in captivity. I have also always cultivated a passion for catadioptric optics that I have collected over the years and for long canvases with the current Nikkor 800mm f / 5.6 at the top. Thanks to all those who with their advice have allowed me to always improve my images! 70

Sara Pinotti Parma, Italia

candypawsphotography.it/ facebook.com/candypawsphotography/ instagram.com/candypaws_photography

I am 28 years old, and for a long time now I have cultivated a passion for photography. I was born in Parma, and a few years ago I started posing as an amateur model. My secret dream was to be able to convey "something" to people.

From this strong desire to be able to convey that "something", without the need to speak as I have always been a shy person, I decided to take on the reins and go behind the camera. My favorite subjects thus became pets as I had always loved them. Why them? Because I find them so pure and so faithful to man that they make my photography emotionally moving. My goal is to show you what I see when I photograph an animal, hoping to arouse my own emotions. Animals are pure, sincere, they would never betray us so my "mission" is to pay homage to them. To our beloved companions comes life! 82
