Madeline Bubb (’12) has been competing in the U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship out of the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. Having begun sailing just two years ago, Madeline was featured in the Daily Pilot for the positive qualities she possesses as a sailor. In the article, Madeline shares about her goals, which include making the varsity sailing team by her senior year at Newport Harbor High School, becoming part of the first all-girl team to qualify for the Governor’s Cup, sailing in college, and working her way toward an Olympic campaign someday.

Riley Evans (’12) built storage cabinets in MCS’s band closet for his Eagle Scout project. Thank you, Riley - now MCS Performing Arts teachers can store their instruments properly. Steven Guder (’12) returned from the Junior National Volleyball Championships in Reno this summer with a silver medal (adding to his gold medal from last year’s nationals) as a member of the second best 16-year-old team in the country. Tori Royal (’12) is excelling in her science program, earning an A+ in Honors Biology (a class with a reputation as the hardest freshman class at OLu). She is currently taking Honors Physics and Honors Chemistry, and she is confident that her early training under Mrs. Fila will continue to serve her well in those classes. Camille Vance (’12) is a sophomore at CDM High School. She is dancing on the Orchesis Dance team for CDM as well as Focus Dance Studio in Irvine. Outside of dance, Camille is involved in Young Life, Best Buddies, and Young Women of Vision. Chris Baab (‘11) went on an eight-day Faith Adventure in Haiti with Mariners Church. The twelve-member team conducted leadership training workshops for local church youth leaders and hosted two Camille Vance VBS events for over 600 children. One of the highlights was delivering Creole Bibles, bed sheets and backpacks with school supplies to 24 children orphaned in the devastating earthquake of January 2010. While playing with the orphans, Chris was pleased to meet a young boy who was wearing a previously donated MCS uniform shirt! Chris attends Woodbridge High School and continues to enjoy performing in school musicals.

Mallory Beane (’11), now a junior at Orange Lutheran High School, completed a three week mission trip to the Dominican Republic this summer. She enjoyed organizing a VBS program for elementary school children, working a local orphanage and serving the people in the community of El Catey. Mallory’s brother Chad is a sophomore Business Major at Whitworth University. This fall he will complete a 4-month semester abroad program in Costa Rica working for Starbucks’ International Headquarters.
