A Message from the CEO The history of SpecTec and AMOS is the history of software at sea. For over 20 years, dedicated to Information Technology solutions for maritime businesses, be it on merchant ships, oilrigs or war ships, SpecTec has set a course and is leading the way.

1985 SpecTec, the company, was formed as an Oslo branch office of the leading Norwegian consultancy firm, ACCO, specialising in planned maintenance systems since 1916. AMOS, the software, was designed to computerise planned maintenance on board ships.

1986 SpecTec begins its early expansion with the first agencies and the first branch office being established in Sweden.

1987 SpecTec continues an expansion plan with further branch offices being established as AMOS software distributors in the United States and The Netherlands.

1988-89 The SpecTec distribution network expands to include Italy, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Cyprus.

1995 Following 7 years of continuous growth, SpecTec is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange Market. By this year, all the distributing agencies are acquired and form the new SpecTec Group of companies.

1996 SpecTec merges with three other companies to form a new corporate entity named Visma, Visual Management Application.

2005, in particular, marked a new beginning; SpecTec became independent again, and our legacy re-emerged, renewed, proud and strong, and now advances with a pioneering vision under new leadership and ownership.

1997 Visma splits its organisation, establishing two divisions: one of them is named SpecTec, Visma Marine Division. The company prospers and expands, reaching over 20 offices worldwide.

2000 The Dutch company, Station 12, owned by KPN (Dutch Telecom), purchases SpecTec, Visma Marine Division. Through an alliance with Telstra (Australian Telecom), Station 12 and SpecTec are merged with KPN Broadband, and Telstra Satellite System, and renamed Xantic. Xantic becomes the largest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company in the maritime sector.

2001 KPN makes a corporate decision to focus on the land-based telephone market, and Xantic, consequently, is considered non-core business.

2005 Early in the year, Xantic restructures to split the business into two independent units: satellite communications and maritime software, the latter being the SpecTec network. This network is renamed The AMOS Group.

In April 2005, a consortium of investors, led by Giampiero Soncini, former Vice President of Xantic, present a bid for the purchase of The AMOS Group.

The AMOS Group was purchased within 21 days from the bid, almost a world record.

By July 2005, under the new leadership, the AMOS Group is renamed to the well-known “old” name of SpecTec, and The SpecTec Group reunites under a new banner and motto:

Project Management is SpecTec’s fundamental approach to succeed through all milestones of our customer projects from initiating and planning, to executing, controlling and closing.

An essential part of any system is having accurate data. SpecTec will organise your technical manuals and procedure libraries so that they are built into a well-structured database enabling your AMOS Systems to deliver the information as it is needed to the user. Whether we import from other systems, extract from manufacturers’ data sources or manually enter your data, our consultants and expert project team will work with you to ensure an accurate and swift delivery. Our consultancy services can also analyse the integrity of your existing data, that has possibly been built up in an ad-hoc way, and restructure and clean your database to ensure that it continues to give you efficient service.

SpecTec provides three levels of support: local, regional, and product development.

All levels use common, web-based software to log support requests, report issues and to manage them until resolved.

The support team is made up of individuals with varied skills and many years of experience to provide the best possible answers for our customers. Our internal quality procedures help us to monitor our response time to ensure we continually improve our efficiency.

Consultancy SpecTec’s skilled and experienced staff will provide consultancy services that will guarantee your AMOS application is optimally configured and implemented.

Following tried and tested methodologies our consultants will ensure that all your business process requirements are identified, documented and incorporated into the system configuration.

Each delivered system will be subject to our rigorous quality control procedures and ensure that SpecTec’s “right first time” objective is realised.

In addition to AMOS software delivery, our staff can also provide services to identify, document, design and deliver customised interfaces to third party systems such as finance, chartering and machinery control systems.

Training After your AMOS system has been designed, specified and implemented, this key stage calls for personnel to become competent users of the system. Your personnel will need to understand their role in the use of AMOS and how this forms an integral part of your business process. With SpecTec Training Centres at a number of locations around the world, we offer standard training courses as well as industry specific and advanced professional courses.

Onboard Inventory Several AMOS customers benefit from our onboard inventory services.

Physical stock counts provide for an accurate basis for inventory value in order to measure cost savings over time.

All spare parts are packaged, organised, and barcode labelled to ease the maintenance of inventory values.

Verification and accurate spare part descriptions are made for efficient use and retrieval, which facilitates streamlined procurement. Sourcing of spares in surplus across the fleet is possible, leading to the processing of transfer orders rather than purchase orders.

RCM, Statistics, Risk, Maintenance Optimisation On a daily basis, ship operators cope with emerging Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements formalised through the International Safety Management code, Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA), and similar standards.

SpecTec can provide customised services to assist the operator in performing riskbased optimisations of their Maintenance Strategy. Through probability, criticality, and availability analysis we can help you tune your maintenance strategy by drawing on our extensive knowledge of industry methodologies such as Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Risk Analysis, Life Cycle Analsysis (LCA) and Fault Tree Analysis. We can facilitate the application of these methodologies or we can develop a customised solution to better suit your needs.

With our ongoing support for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), SpecTec provides full service and support in vibration monitoring and analysis for rotating equipment, for maintenance purposes, by providing:

Managing and maintaining assets on Oil & Gas exploration platforms and fields is a complicated task, especially when these assets are spread across multiple locations all over the world. SpecTec solutions have managed just that, by applying Information Technology at its best.

SpecTec and its customers have partnered to succeed in managing remote assets, with a methodology that is now easily deployable to any new site swiftly and at a fraction of cost of other solutions.

Data stored centrally is copied to the remote site, which becomes virtually independent from the central office.

Whenever scheduled, modified data is then transferred, via any available means (telephone lines, satellites, VSAT), to the central office, which can thus be completely and regularly updated on the status of maintenance, spares and costs of the site.

AMOS Business Suite allows full Asset Life Cycle Management through the procurement, maintenance, logistics and spare parts process management.

Defence SpecTec delivers AMOS as a CommercialOff-The-Shelf (COTS) Computerised Maintenance Management System to suit the planned maintenance and stock control requirements to the world’s Navies, or to any Defence related organisation.

AMOS can be adopted at the early phase of the ship design project, prior to its operational life, as part of any Integrated Logistic System (ILS) solution. AMOS’s strength lies in its integration capabilities as maintenance, spares, stores, purchase, and logistic data are treated as part of the same project.

The customer is supported from the beginning in order to identify a coherent and effective list of requirements for the deployment of a successful system. AMOS as a COTS solution, with its customisable flexibility, makes it suitable for a very wide range of applications.

AMOS’s capabilities in working as a standalone system onboard, while replicating data at the first possible

Energy & Industry occasion, via satellite, to the onshore Naval Base, makes it extremely useful to satisfy a Navy’s logistics needs while distributing over a large geographical area.

Data is updated onboard, and only the modified data is transferred ashore. Given its simplicity, data can be protected by means of normal crypto equipment and transferred ashore using a secure connection layer.

Advanced Condition Monitoring and extra data storage are both supported to improve and simplify the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach: critical object function definition, failure and operational modes, cost functions definition, performance monitoring and statistical validation tests are key parameters to implement and set up this approach.

With Vibration Monitoring widely considered the most important and effective Condition Monitoring methodology for rotating machinery, SpecTec has developed vast experience in this area providing its customers with both highly skilled consultancy and

system integration capabilities, as many third party Vibration Monitoring devices can be interfaced with AMOS. Strictly related to the RCM approach, Mission Oriented Stock Planning methodologies are available and provided to optimise the stock levels in accordance with shorter logistic boundaries (one mission): generally stock provisioning is evaluated and sized taking into account a long term period (several years).

NATO Stock Number (NSN) for spare parts will be applied.

The SpecTec Defence Team can analyse Customer requirements in terms of ILS needs and set AMOS to work conforming to customers’ logistics requirements. Data entry in terms of functional and content breakdown can be performed in accordance with NATO standards, such as NAVSEA S9040 and the latest ASD (AeroSpace & Defence Industries Association of Europe) / AIA (Aerospace Industries Association) S1000D (the former AECMA Spec 1000D) specifications for Naval use.

AMOS is widespread in the Energy sector where the system is utilised for controlling maintenance routines and spare part supply for a large number of worldwide power plant installations.

The AMOS Maintenance and Purchase system is fully utilised with functions such as Project Management and Document Handling and are integrated with manufacturers’ Graphical Maintenance handbooks and Spare Part catalogues.

The systems make use of AMOS Replication, an add-on tool automatically controlling all data transfer between remote and central databases, where all data entries are transferred to and from remote sites and regional, as well as central maintenance management offices.

With these instant updates the centralised planning of maintenance activities and effective deployment of international service teams is improved, leading to the increased reliability of power plants and better control of the logistics processes, ensuring spare part availability at all times.

AMOS Maintenance and Purchase’s comprehensive functionality and work flow management proves its capabilities in a number of Industries such as Manufacturing, Processing and Transport.

AMOS functionality will provide the means for data to be extracted for the analysis of Key Performance Indicators of maintenance activities.

The user interface can be configured for machinery operators to easily report faults and observations either via their PC workstation or via wireless hand held PDA equipment – in order to provide the possibility for instant correction by the Maintenance Department, and to provide data for Root Cause problem solving.

AMOS can be integrated with other systems in order to manage Condition Based Maintenance activities, as well as data transfer between financial systems or E-commerce transactions.
