HISTORY

L’entreprise fut fondée en 1924, par deux associés, Jean Pennel et Joseph Flipo. Depuis cette date, Pennel & Flipo fait figure de proue dans le domaine des films et textiles techniques enduits à base d’élastomères (Caoutchoucs), de Plastomères (PVC) et de Polyuréthanes.

The company was founded in 1924 by two partners, Jean Pennel et Joseph Flipo. Since that time, Pennel & Flipo has become the industry leader in the field of films and technical coated fabrics of Elastomers (rubbers), Plastomers (PVC) and Polyurethanes.

Historically, the Technical Products Division of the company specialized in fabrics for inflatable structures, principally for marine applications. The successful launching of this division was integrally linked with that of airtight products such as inflatable boats, life rafts, and oil booms – industries where Pennel has achieved a legendary reputation for quality.

Historiquement, la division des produits techniques de l’entreprise s’est spécialisée dans les tissus pour structures gonflables, principalement pour applications marines. Son essor fut lié à celui de produits étanches à l’air comme le bateau pneumatique, le radeau de sauvetage et le barrage anti-pollution, domaines dans lesquels Pennel acquis une réputation légendaire de qualité.

Au delà de ses domaine traditionnels, le savoir-faire de Pennel & Flipo a été mis à contribution dans une longue liste de développement de pointe : ballons hélium, gilets de sauvetage, flottaisons d’hélicoptères, jupes d’aéroglisseurs, soufflets ferroviaires, vêtement de protection, barrières thermiques, obturateurs, réservoirs, tentes NBC gonflables etc.

ORCA® TECH PU Polyether Pennel & Flipo’s fabrics are renowned for their outstanding suppleness.

Our 14 oz (290-150) fabric is single-coated with virgin Polyurethane (Polyether) with air retention and water resistance (hydrolysis) properties.

It is the ideal material for weldable “V” tapes and accessories.

The rest of the line, from 21 oz to 45 oz (289-153, 289-3837 and 289-3861) is double coated with virgin PU offering very high air retention and water resistance (hydrolysis) properties. It is the ideal material for products such as inflatable boats, whitewater rafts, oil booms and other marine inflatable products.

Available in various colours and can be fine-tuned to your specifications.

ORCA® TECH Open Weave PU Fabrics Pennel & Flipo has developed a range of “open weave” PU fabrics, a process that encapsulates the threads and allows for the bonding of both sides of the coating. This design provides outstanding adhesion levels and is recommended where high “peel” strength is required such as in welded closures of oil boom’s inflatable sections.

We can offer a wide choice of weaves to match your tensile specifications from 225 lbs/inch tensile strength and higher. Coatings can be balanced or unbalanced and gauges adjusted to your requirements from 20 to 45 oz. Various colours are available.

We only use virgin and non blended Polyether PU.

ORCAÂŽ TECH Permanent Boom Fabric At Pennel & Flipo, we have developed a strong composite of PU and double-ply polyester to be used as permanent boom.

You can achieve easier deployment given the increased suppleness of our formulation.

Also, most competitors’ fabrics are press-coated, allowing threads to move to the surface of the coating which permits water and pollutants to infiltrate, thereby reducing the abrasion resistance and the mechanical properties down the road.

Our process consists of laminating films of PU on 2 layers of weave, a process that ensures a far better longevity. Given that the middle layer of the PU is protected by 2 weaves, it maintains its’ original properties over a much longer period of time.

We formulated a high end virgin Polyether PU, not blended, ensuring up to 3 times the abrasion resistance of competitive products. This heavy double-ply composite is not thermo-set, thereby allowing the welding of seams and accessories.

ORCA 861 ORCA 861 Neoprene Coated Fabrics Among its range of product, Pennel & Flipo has also developed a large range of Neoprene coated fabrics from 14 oz/yd² - 500 g/m² up to 80 oz/yd² - 2700 g/m² with all type of support (Polyester, Polyamide, Aramide …).

These products are suitable for the manufacture of inflatable booms, foamed booms and permanent booms.

The formulation of the coating, initially developed for inflatable boats, offers remarkable air tightness properties along with outstanding resistance to UV rays and abrasion resistance.
