Howard & Espinosa The design of the new McKinna Motoryachts has been an evolutionary process combining the talents of two renowned naval architects, Howard Apollonio and Juan Carlos Espinosa, plus the expertise of experienced McKinna personnel.

Howard Apollonio Hull Design His firm Apollonio Naval Architecture offers leading-edge yacht and commercial craft design, engineering, styling, and space planning for a wide range of diverse and advanced craft, including modern and traditional monohulls, catamarans, trimarans, SWATHs, and hydrofoils. Juan Carlos Espinosa Exterior Styling and Interior Layout Juan Carlos Espinosa is a licensed, registered Architect in both the states of Florida and Illinois.

He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Urban Planning degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985.

Mr. Espinosa was first exposed to the field of yacht design while employed by a Chicago firm commissioned to design what would be, in 1985, the largest aluminum mega-yacht in the United States.

Ever since, JC, as Mr. Espinosa is known in the industry, has dedicated his efforts exclusively to the exterior and interior styling of the custom yacht and production boat industries. The firm's design work is published regularly by the most prominent publications in the field.

McKinna Yachts and JC Espinosa began collaborating back in 1997 when McKinna Yachts decided to give their whole line of production yachts a "fresh start". Engineering & Design Yacht building involves many details. It's obvious that those you see are important in your decision to buy. What you don't see, however, affects the long-term enjoyment of your investment.

At McKinna Yachts, the objective is not to build boats, but to build better boats, made to megayacht standards, both from a substance and style standpoint. McKinna's engineering and design set new standards for boats in this class.

For example, take the basic construction. Where many boat builders are satisfied with using plywood, we go a step further and use Nidacore as the primary material for the sloes and bulkheads. Nidacore, a high-tech composite, is lighter and stronger. It may be more expensive, but it allows us to take advantage of the reduction in weight to pass along fuel savings to you.

Less weight requires less engine horsepower. Also, because the size of the engine is reduced, it changes hull design parameters, thereby improving speed and performance. What's more, Nidacore has excellent sound absorption properties which allows them to run very quietly.

Efficiency is the key design parameter in a McKinna hull. The construction methods we use are chosen to give maximum strength and minimum weight to achieve optimum efficiency. They are proven techniques using the best resins and composites, not experimental processes that may affect reliability. It's the proper blend of technology that results in safety and performance.

The interior workmanship of a McKinna yacht is a superb melding of wood and fabric to achieve a rich, inviting feel. Shapes and contours soften the look. There is a mood inducing sensuality.

We utilize cutting edge technology in applications where it will best benefit the performance, operation, and most importantly, the safety of our boats. Irradiated thermoset boat cable is a recent innovation of the Berkshire Electric Cable Company.
