Const ruct ion: Casing manufactured from mild steel w ith rolled flanges on both ends.

M otor mountings are welded or riveted. Casings can be hot dip galvanised after manufacture or have a powder coated paint finish.

Im peller: The impeller is manufactured from die cast aluminium alloy. The blades are of a true aerofoil cross section and are adjustable pitch at rest.

The impeller is directly mounted on the motor shaft. Impellers are statically and dynamically balanced according to DIN ISO 1940, class G 6,4 < 4,0 mm/s.

M ot or: M otors are totally enclosed, foot mounted and manufactured according to IEC smoke exhaust.

Insulation class H, protection class IP55.

M otors are selected for the rated duty at 20°C. M otors are connected to an external terminal box or isolation sw itch. Cabling is sheathed and protected to suit.

The Principle

The Advant ages

In the last few years, impulse fan technology has rapidly won acceptance in garage ventilation in Germany and is now increasingly finding entry into the different garage regulations. In European countries, such as Great Britain and the Netherlands, it has already been accepted as the new standard for planning.

In closed garages, constant air circulation can be generated through using an adequate number of impulse fans on two levels (high air speed in the ceiling area, lower air speed in the pedestrian area). This keeps the carbon monoxide pollution to a minimum.

In comparison to customary ventilation and smoke prevention systems w hich are based on transverse ventilation, air-duct and sprinkler systems, this system is based on transferring the concepts of jet fans, w hich are know n from tunnel ventilation.

These sound suppressed, free aspirating and blow ing axial fans inject an airflow w ith high impulses into the tunnel cross-section. This impulse induces a current of air and accelerates the air-masses in the tunnel in addition to the natural air current.

Important parameters for performance are the speed of the current created through the impulse fans and therefore thrust reach and the static thrust.

By placing the impulse fans carefully, it is possible to eliminate those dead areas w hich can collect exhaust pollutants due to architectonic circumstances and where sufficient air exchange is not guaranteed by conventional ductconnected ventilation. It is possible to completely avoid the expensive installation of an air-duct system.

The necessary overall output of the fans can be reduced because there are no duct resistances to be overcome. If required, DLK impulse fans can be designed in such a way that operation is guaranteed for at least two hours in an ambient temperature of 300°C. This means that they also fulfil the function of mechanical smoke extraction of the garage at the same time.

Through the use of reversible impellers, the impulse fans can be reversed in case of fire so that the ensuing fumes are directed to the closest extraction portal.

The spreading of fumes to unaffected parts of the garage can thus be prevented and escape routes can be kept smoke-free.

The virtual fire passages arising from this means that it is not necessary to actually physically separate the garage surfaces through fire walls (in closed garages, there should be a fire passage every 2,500 m 3).

The user-friendliness of the garage can clearly be increased by more open-plan and lighter design as well as simplified driving processes, w hich can increase the user’s perception of security.

The improved exploitation of the parking area through an increased number of parking spaces, improves the long term economic results for the operator.

Ventilating garages by means of impulse fans guarantees an adequate level of security in terms of the garage regulations and produces better ventilation results than the conventional duct-connected ventilation.

The requirements of the guidelines VDI 2053 and DIN 18332, part 6 (mechanical smoke and heat extraction systems) are adhered to. The additional costs of the impulse fans are more than balanced out since the need for a duct network w ith the resulting heat from the fire can be omitted.
