Painting the Town

The Sea Ray SDX 290 Outboard is made for entertaining.

Leisure | Sea Ray

After a full day on the water, the party crew heads to the “Tiki Bar” at Tierra Verde Marina in St. Petersburg, Florida, while the captain cleans up. It’s the closing of another great day on Dixie Belle .

Kevin and Suzanne Fulford own Dixie Belle , named after Suzanne’s company, Dixie Belle Paint Company. It’s Kevin’s fifth boat and their second Sea Ray.

The Sea Ray SDX 290 Outboard was a perfect choice for the couple that loves to day boat with a crowd, and this yacht-certified boat is made for entertaining. A fold-down step makes it easy to get on and off. An open floor plan, oversized bow, and huge cockpit mean there’s lots of room for the party crowd that routinely includes the Fulford’s 24-year-old daughter, Alanna, her boyfriend, Tyler, and Suzanne’s siblings, Matt, Joe, and Colleen.

In addition to open space, there is tons of storage and convertible seating, including a cockpit companion seat that can face forward or flip back so guests can focus ahead when cruising or flip the seat back when anchored. Standard features also include dedicated cooler storage and a wet bar to keep the beverages cold and snacks within reach.

The SDX 290 is built for performance on the water, and that

performance is the main reason Kevin wanted to upgrade. The boat has twin Mercury Verado 250 engines and joystick control, including Skyhook technology which links to the boat’s GPS to keep it in position.

“It’s fassst,” boasted Kevin. “And the joystick control makes docking a breeze, which I appreciate, especially when pulling up to a restaurant where everyone is watching. It’s so easy even a caveman can do it.”

Dixie Belle’s helm includes a 9-inch Simrad touchscreen that displays Mercury VesselView®, the on-board information management system that allows a captain to control the boat from an intuitive LCD screen that displays RPM, speed, fuel flow, and fuel efficiency, among other things. It’s everything needed for a seamless command experience, and it helps a captain navigate St. Pete’s notoriously shallow waters.

11 MarineMax.com

“Growing up, we didn’t have GPS on the boats,” said Kevin. “I learned the hard way to stay away from shallow water when my dad ran aground, and we had to muscle the boat off a sandbar. But recently, I bit the bullet and went into three feet of water at John’s Pass. It was a really good day, and I’m starting to get comfortable in the shallows.”

Almost as important as performance is music; it sets the tone for a good time on the water. With Dixie Belle , the Fulfords upgraded to a premium Fusion audio system, adding an amp, subwoofer, and two additional speakers. Their daughter Alanna is the chief party officer and is in charge of selecting tunes.

The Fulfords also added an extended bimini top to give them more

shade when the Florida sun gets to be too much. And when they need to cool off, the Sea Ray SDX has a folddown, submersible swim platform and freshwater spray down hose to get a quick rinse before returning onboard.

Two additional features the Fulfords can’t do without are the anchor windlass, so there is no struggling to throw out the anchor or haul it back in, and the roomy head with a VacuFlush system.

A normal day for the Fulfords includes cruising out to a sand bar and hanging out. Catching a sunset at John’s Pass or Egmont Key is always a highlight. They also enjoy visiting the many waterside restaurants in Tampa Bay, downtown St. Pete, or Clearwater Beach. Shore restaurant in Sarasota is one of their favorites.

“It’s an easy run to Shore by boat, but it’s a long way on land,” said Kevin. “I get the Jenga ribs, but the party crew really likes the drinks. They have special ones each season— and they really look forward to those seasonal cocktails.”

When they want to escape the crowds, the crew heads to their secret place, a quiet cove that backs up to Fort De Soto State Park, just past Bunces Pass. Shhhh, they don’t want to share that with too many people.

COMMAND THE WATER

Aviara is a luxury day boat for those who want to break away.

They say every good party ends up in the kitchen. On the water, that kitchen is the exquisitely designed Aviara luxury day boat built in Merritt Island, FL. And just like any high-end space, everything on the Aviara has been thoughtfully curated with exhaustive attention to detail. Brought to life by MasterCraft Boat Holdings, Inc. the vessel is sold exclusively by MarineMax.

“We built a brand that speaks to the boater who wants to be in command, while providing an unforgettable experience to their guests,” said Rob Nye, Aviara director of sales and marketing. “The Aviara can handle rough water conditions with the smooth, comfortable ride you’d expect from an offshore fishing boat, yet its progressive style is inspired by modern European design.”

Premium components considered upgrades on other boats, come standard on the Aviara. Instead of a sea of white, express yourself with a color-matched

hull, deck, and hardtop in seven different curated gel colors. Add details like bespoke billet aluminum accents in either black or silver satin.

Two distinct features of the Aviara are the SeaDek flooring pattern and innovative CoolFeel vinyl that covers the scalloped foam seats, providing the ultimate in comfort. CoolFeel stays up to 30 percent cooler than other marine vinyls, even in darker colors like black or navy. It is easy to keep dry too. There are five different vinyls to choose from, all with a modern classic look.

Also unique to the Aviara is the option for transom barstools behind the chaise, creating stadium seating for up to six people to face the water and interact with those on the wide swim platform. On cool nights, add to the elevated experience by activating the heated cockpit seats.

The heart of entertaining happens between the stern and the port side. Guests relax in L-shaped seating with an endless

amount of stainless-steel beverage holders and perfectly positioned coolers.

“The layout on the Aviara is very intentional—I call it uninterrupted boating,” said Rob. “We wanted to maximize space and allow it to feel really open, even with a boat full of friends and family.”

Across from the luxurious seating is a wet bar with space to chill three upright wine bottles. In addition, the area has a sink, pull-out cooler, optional refrigerators, trash can and a small corner counter with three beverage holders. All of this is under a seven-foot high fiberglass hard top that includes mood-setting LED RGB accent lights that can change color, as well as two of the eight Klipsch® 8.5” speakers.

To extend the shade, activate a powercontrolled sunshade system crafted by Makefast, Europe’s premier shade-system manufacturer. With the push of a button, the shade covers the entire back portion of the boat, covering the entire sunpad.

15 MarineMax.com

The helm is well thought out—with a clean enlarged triple-display dash, joystick piloting, and an Italian handcrafted steering wheel. An ergonomic design and intentional placement of vessel controls adds a practical touch.

One of the biggest advantages of the Aviara is the quality of the ride, since it handles like a high-end performance vehicle. It’s hard to explain how smoothly it cuts through the water and how it attacks the rough seas. Knowing how the craft will react instills confidence, even in the chop. Choose between Mercury Verado outboard motors or llmor sterndrives to bring the right amount of power, and maneuverability. It all ladders up to a sense of stress-free boating.

The AV32 encapsulates all the Aviara’s standard options. From unique seating arrangements that allow those in and out of the water to interact effortlessly to a deep deck and side console head that allows someone over six feet to stand comfortably, there is thought and purpose in every detail.

The AV36 sets the perfect stage to entertain with more room for guests, as well as a contemporary layout that includes a cabin for two with available heat and air conditioning. From the gourmet galley and wet bar, to the upholstery and craftmanship, all features are tuned to effortless entertaining.

Extend your days on the water with the AV40’s spacious cabin that can easily sleep four, including a dedicated queen-sized bed. Elegant styling and precision engineering combine to create an open and inviting living area, including expandable terraces with the push of a button.

The craftsmanship of the Aviara provides style, control, and luxury. Every boat model goes through offshore validation designed to test all aspects of the craft. It’s a rigorous process that usually takes place in four-to-sixfoot seas and over a few weeks of 6-8 hours days, mimicking years of use. Throughout the process, the team makes modifications where needed.

Even once the design is set, every boat that comes off the line goes

through a shakedown process for testing to ensure all features are working, and it is 100% ready to go for your first outing.

Aviara’s vision is to create crafts that defy compromise and to give forwardthinking boaters what they’ve wanted on their own terms. Connect with a MarineMax sales consultant, and they’ll show you how Aviara lets you break away.

Fishing | Boston Whaler

DOES NOT EXIST THE LIMIT

Three things I learned aboard the new Boston Whaler 280 Dauntless.

Boston Whaler is one of those, “If You Know, You Know” boat brands. For generations, anglers, family day boaters, and confident captains everywhere have shared a common reverence for the “unsinkable legend,” as it was christened by iconic promotional stunts from the brand’s early days.

In his original pitch, company founder, Dick Fisher, would saw in half the hull of a 13’ skiff, which would stay afloat to the amazement of onlookers, thus solidifying Boston Whaler’s enduring reputation for audacious innovations—a perception that would be projected onto future model releases and those who owned them.

Flash forward to today, where the world of boating is more diverse than ever, and so is the Whaler lineup. As of this article, Boston Whaler boasts seven

model families, each promising unique benefits to serve a wide variety of onwater pursuits.

Their latest release is the new 280 Dauntless.

Joining the recently redesigned 220 and 250 Dauntless models, the 280 Dauntless arrived in August of 2022 to round out the full progression of Whaler’s multifunctional center console series.

“Boston Whalers are designed to open up your on-water world, and the all-new 280 Dauntless expands on that with gusto,” said Kris Neff, president of Boston Whaler. “[280 Dauntless] is a no-limits boat that puts adventure within easy reach. If you want to go for it, the 280 Dauntless won’t hold you back.”

With that in mind, I took my first step on board, and let me tell you—I’ve never been more inspired to take on the world by water.

So, without further ado, here are my top 3 takeaways:

1) THERE’S SOMETHING HERE FOR EVERYONE.

All Boston Whalers are designed to overachieve, but the 280 Dauntless takes high-function layout and amenities to a new level that lets it excel at fishing, watersports, leisurely cruising, and running both inshore and offshore. The 280 has more comfort features, loads of storage space, and can be customized with dozens of options that cater to any type of boating pursuit.

2) YOU CAN REALLY CONNECT ON THIS BOAT—IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. When it comes to creature comforts, this boat delivers. The standard convertible helm seat with electric actuation can quickly convert into an aft-facing one at the push of a button. Cup holders, a bow table, coolers, and other amenities can be found throughout the vessel. It also features a large stern platform for ease of boarding from the dock or the water, including a retracting boarding ladder on the starboard side.

Thanks to its large, optional foldout swim patio, the 280 Dauntless lets you get in and out of the water on a whim. That’s great for families who want to spend full days afloat with pets and guests; imagine dropping anchor and taking a dip or watching from the fold-down, aft-facing helm seat while the kids frolic on the beach. And because of the free-flowing onboard movement from bow to stern, it’s possibly an even more attractive option for boaters on inland lakes than your traditional bowrider.

3) THIS IS STILL AN ANGLER’S PARADISE. For anglers, the 280 Dauntless doesn’t skimp on fishing-focused features. Namely a large casting platform, a 19-gallon livewell, a large fishbox with pump-out, and increased storage capacity throughout the boat to effectively store all fishing gear. An optional full glass windshield protects the helm from the elements, and an

outrigger package is also available to enhance offshore capability. An excellent all-around design, the 280 Dauntless also offers a deluxe leaning post, a gyro stabilizer, a freshwater sink, and rod holders on either side.

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention this boat’s performance capability. Powered by Mercury, the 280 Dauntless is available with either single or dual outboards. For dual engine configuration, boaters can choose between twin 250 or twin 300hp engines in white or black, both with joystick piloting options. Boaters who want an inland fishing boat with the capability to head offshore for a variety of activities (and who are willing to invest in elevated experience) will love this new model.

FEARLESS FREEDOM WITHOUT LIMITS

280 DAUNTLESS

The good day has arrived. Is your boat up to the challenge?

The new 280 Dauntless offers remarkable versatility, performance and comfort for those who are ready to boldly tackle a wider range of pursuits.

WAVE TAMER IN PARADISE

For the Usiaks, the Aquila 28 Molokai Power Catamaran has meant more days on the water in the Florida Keys spent in comfort.

Fishing | Aquila Power Catamarans

When Wayne and Shannan Usiak thought about where they wanted to build a retirement house, they assumed it would be in Mexico, where they had been visiting and fishing for 25 years. Being relatively close to Albuquerque, where Wayne had founded BDA Architecture, P.C. in 1986, it made sense. But when he received a commission to design and build Marathon Veterinary Hospital in the Florida Keys, he and Shannan fell in love with the area and eventually built a house there in 2017.

“Our first boat in the Keys was a 22-foot Cobia center console monohull,” recalls Wayne. “But it didn’t take long to realize it wasn’t enough boat for us.” So, the Usiaks

searched for something more seaworthy and bought a Twin Vee 240 CC catamaran. “I hate big waves,” says Shannan. “And while the cat handled the chop better, I still stayed home when the seas were 2 feet or more.”

Wayne did some research and liked what he heard about the Aquila 28 Molokai, originally designed to handle the rough water surrounding Hawaii. He noticed it was a brand MarineMax carried, which had a location in Key Largo at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in the northern Keys, and made inquiries. “Wayne contacted me about a year ago, expressing an interest in the 28 Molokai,” says MarineMax sales consultant Craig Stephens, “but at the time, inventory was very low, so I told him I would stay in touch and

let him know when an opportunity to test one cropped up. Later in the year, I noticed Aquila had scheduled a photo shoot here, and I arranged for a sea trial.”

“At first, I was a little skeptical about buying from MarineMax,” says Wayne. “During my research, I discovered they were the largest boat dealership in the world, and I figured I would be just another number. But when I went to test it, I was quickly proven wrong.” When the Usiaks arrived, they found Craig had literally rolled the red carpet out, and the boat was ready to go.

“We were immediately impressed by the 28 Molokai,” says Wayne. “It checked off every box we had, and it felt more substantial than our previous boat. It has an abundance

23 MarineMax.com

of storage, comfortable seating, and didn’t display any of the handling quirks like the Twin Vee’s tendency to lean to the outside in turns.”

Although the 28 Molokai, powered by twin 200hp Mercury Verado® outboards, was spoken for when it came to Key Largo, it suddenly became available, and after a few days of negotiating, Wayne was ready to pick it up and take it home to Marathon. “After the sale, I got to see how MarineMax treats its customers,” says Wayne. “They helped me adjust the bunks on my lift to fit the boat, and Carlos Lopez helped me find insurance when my original company let me down. On delivery day, General Manager Ken Reda was in the area and picked me up, which saved Shannan a two-hour drive.” Wayne also found the boat fully equipped with yacht-style fenders, life jackets, cleaning supplies, a first aid kit, an emergency kit, life jackets, six dock lines, and even a full tank of gas. “On the day I picked it up,” says Wayne, “they were also delivering a $3 million Scout 530, and they made me feel just as important as that owner. The MarineMax customer experience at Ocean Reef was beyond anything I’ve had in my previous five boats or my 50 cars, for that matter.”

“We love it in the Keys,” says Shannan. “It’s like living on a Caribbean island but with all the amenities of home. I like to fish, but I’m more into the boating aspect, while Wayne is really passionate about fishing.” In Mexico, they would troll for tuna, dolphin, sailfish, and marlin, and that knowledge has translated well in the Keys. “Lately, I’ve started to do more bottom fishing for snapper and grouper,” says Wayne.

The Usiaks love hosting friends, and the ones from Buffalo, where Wayne was originally from, especially love the tropical atmosphere. Their son Kyle is a flight instructor at the University of North Dakota, and their daughter Holly is a hospital system strategy planner in Indiana, and both can’t wait to head down and see the new boat when it gets cold up north. The Usiaks used to stick to the waters around Marathon, but the Aquila 28 Molokai Power Catamaran has given them the confidence to venture farther while being accompanied by Patrick, the Parson Russell Terrier. “We now plan to expand our cruising grounds to include Key West and Islamorada,” says Wayne.

“Our Aquila is outfitted with everything a day boater/fisherman could want,” says Wayne. “l told my wife it’s my last boat… but she doesn’t believe me!”

Enjoy a Caribbean island vacation on a luxurious yacht with a personal crew to serve your every need!

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most idyllic areas in the Caribbean to charter. Tides are minimal, islands are within view—making line-of-sight navigation straightforward, supplies are easy to find, mooring balls make anchoring easy, and the scenery is simply sublime. MarineMax Vacations has provided charter vacations on power catamarans in the BVI for 10 years and maintains a fleet of more than 50 vessels, the youngest and most up-todate fleet in the islands. With just a few hours of instruction at the MarineMax Vacations base, charter customers with experience on similar-sized vessels discover operating a power catamaran in

the BVI is well within their ability. In fact, many customers return year after year.

In addition to bareboat charters, MarineMax Vacations now offers luxury, all-inclusive, crewed charters for the ultimate BVI vacation experience. Even the most experienced skippers and guests are tempted by this professionally crewed charter option—for a good reason. A professional yacht captain handles all the navigation, docking, and vessel requirements, and a gourmet chef will plan, prepare, and serve delectable meals, appetizers, and beverages while cleaning up after. Customers relax every minute of their vacation rather than tending to boat maintenance, navigation, cooking, and cleaning.

MarineMax Vacations President Dave Bigge can personally vouch for the vacation value a crewed charter brought to his family. “After many years of family vacations with my six adult children, we decided to try a crewed yacht experience,” says Dave.

Professional captains have vast experience in the BVI and are familiar with secluded spots to anchor away from other boats. Building a Dream

Leisure | Harris Pontoons
Creating a custom Harris Sunliner 230 from the ground up.

When Eric and Kristine Wilsusen upgraded to a 2022 Harris Sunliner 230, they engaged daughters Karly (23) and Kate (21) to help them customize the craft to be uniquely their own.

“Karly is an interior designer, and with the help of her sister and mother, they completely redesigned the boat,” said Eric. “We looked at magazines and brochures, but you can’t really get the details in photos, so our MarineMax sales consultant David Lewis took the four of us to see about 10 different boats with various packages. We must have changed the spec sheet at least

five times. David was very patient.”

The Wilsusen’s custom-built craft features a sterling gray exterior with a sparkling champagne accent, a silver fence, rub rail, and matching black bimini and mooring cover. They chose a gray woven teak flooring that Karley specified to match the French gray durable pillow-top vinyl upholstery interior. The flooring is an upgrade the family couldn’t live without. “Our old boat had carpet that was hard to keep clean; with this, we just sweep it and go—and it looks great.”

David was the main reason the couple went to MarineMax for their

upgrade. Eric and Dave had grown up together in New Jersey, and Eric trusted him implicitly.

“I was pretty set on the Harris brand, and I knew David would treat me right,” said Eric. “I’m not a big haggler, and with David, I didn’t need to be. He guided me through the whole process, even talking me out of going with a bigger boat, and he was right.”

Looks aside, Eric was excited to upgrade to a tritoon with a level 2 performance package. The package adds a full-length center tube for buoyancy and lifting strakes for reduced drag and splash, providing

31 MarineMax.com

a quieter ride. In addition, the fuel tank increases to 37 gallons. It also keeps the boat stable when the 150-horsepower Mercury engine is at full throttle. That stability and ride, coupled with the included ski tow bar, make the boat perfect for tubing with their nephews Sean (16) and Ryan (17).

The helm is the heartbeat of any boat, and Eric loves the comfort of his UltraLux, high-backed captain’s chair. From here, he can push a button for the power bimini, an upgrade he said is well worth the money. “It makes it so much easier and faster to navigate Lake Hopatcong’s low bridges.”

For Kristine, the best part of the boating lifestyle is sharing it with friends. “Sundays are our boat days,” said Kristine. “Being on the water helps us de-stress, and sharing that joy with others is priceless.”

The Harris Sunliner 230 has ample capacity for up to 14 people. The bow offers a separate cozy conversation area, but most of the action on the Wilsusen’s boat happens at the stern. The family extended the swim platform, which has become a favorite spot for their 15-year-old yellow lab, Bella.

The Wilsusen daughters love to sunbathe on the convertible loungers, which can seat both ways or fully recline. They plug their iPhones into the JL Audio head unit stereo system with Bluetooth technology and six Clarion speakers—two of which are located on the back lounger.

The back speakers face out so when the crew anchors for a swim in Byram Cove, they can listen to music. With controls right next to the speakers, adjusting the volume or changing the station can be done without going to the console.

The Sunliner’s RGB LED lighting system adds to the aesthetic. With a touch of a button, the girls can illuminate cup holders and seat bases along with areas underdeck and underwater in every color using a multi-zone controller that

allows them to customize the color selection, cycling, and more!

Sometimes the couple will cruise mid-week with friends to the Windlass restaurant and anchor up with wine and cheese for the Wednesday night Music Under the Stars Concert Series.

Best friends Anthony and Linda Padula are usually with the Wilsusens on these excursions. In fact, once Anthony saw the new Sunliner, he immediately went to MarineMax to talk to David Lewis and buy his own. Anthony made one request: “Whatever horsepower Eric has on his boat, double it for mine.”

ON A NATIONAL LEVEL

From keeping your boat high up on the racks or in the water, you’ll now find us all around (the world!), and we do a lot more than just store your boat—we offer you an experience. If you’ve never seen what MarineMax marinas are about, you should give us a try!

Each of our marina locations is unique and offers plenty of amenities, from member’s lounges to laundry, ice, fuel, pumpout stations, Wi-Fi, cleaning stations, wash racks, and more. Our marinas also offer classes, events, exclusive Get aways! ®, ship stores, restaurants, and onsite services such as maintenance, repairs, and upgrades by certified technicians that can be scheduled easily through the MarineMax App.

At MarineMax, we know there are plenty of other places you can purchase a boat, take it for service, for storage, etc., so that’s why we strive to give you the most reliable, top-rated experience. We offer expert knowledge, exciting events, and to be part of a boating family of fun.

For instance, Melissa K., a MarineMax Brick customer, commented, “The team at MarineMax in Brick is excellent. I purchased my first boat from them this past summer.

I had plans to transfer my boat to another nearby local marina once I received my boat, but I decided to dock at MarineMax as the staff was so friendly and helpful.”

A CLEAN AND GREEN EXPERIENCE

Besides the many services and amenities available, we are proud to keep our marinas clean and offer a greener experience by participating in programs that help the environment and aquatic wildlife surrounding them. Meeting specific criteria to become Clean Marina certified is one way our marinas are doing their part to stay committed to excellence and continue to keep the sustainable mindset going by spreading it to other stores and locations nationwide.

One highly notable team member who helped kick off the successful sustainability practice at MarineMax Sarasota in 2018 is Heather Mess. Now the company’s National Marina Manager, Heather, explains the program in detail:

“The Clean Marina certification is a voluntary program offered in some states. We are committed to implementing clean marina practices at all of our locations, including in states where Clean Marina programs are not available. We pride ourselves

on providing cleaning facilities to our members and local communities. We also encourage clean boating habits to protect waterways and keep boating safe for all on the water.”

Last spring, three consecutive MarineMax locations were recognized by the state of New Jersey for reaching a Clean Marina status. As we move forward, we urge everyone to keep our water clean and marine life happy now and for future generations to come.

THE ANTI-CONTEST WAKE CONTEST

By focusing not on trophies

all-inclusive fun—and charity—the Barrel Boss Wakesurf Contest has become the toast of Texas.

but

Landlocked hundreds of miles from the nearest coastline, Austin, Texas, doesn’t exactly top the list of marquee surf destinations. And yet, arguably, the coolest grassroots surf contest ever envisioned has taken place here for the last 15 years. All participants at the Barrel Boss Wakesurf Contest need to make it happen on a little Lake Travis H2O, the man-made wave machine that is the Super Air Nautique G23…and a desire to have some good old-fashioned summertime fun.

Put on annually by MarineMax Sail & Ski Austin, Barrel Boss is partly a customer-appreciation event, part phenomenon, and a contest with a decided non-contest vibe. Participation is more important than points. The day’s fun factor beats any trophy. It’s a formula that has attracted all ages and skill levels to take their shot on that man-made Lake Travis surf. And one that has made Barrel Boss the longestrunning grassroots wake event in the entire state of Texas.

Watersports | Nautique

How did this unconventional contest grow to become a mark-the-calendar event? For starters, there’s a division for almost everyone. Young and old, novice and experienced, toddler and grandparent—they have all competed over the years. This year, a true beginners class even joined the mix. “We really want Barrel Boss to remain a grassroots competition, built for people to just have fun,” explains Bonnie Kovach, longtime tournament director. “So that was a nice edition. We had a lot of people sign up for it, kids and adults.”

On the water, riders enjoy a lowpressure “expression session” format, simply showing what they can do on that near-perfect G23 wake. Falls aren’t penalized. The most memorable ride takes home the trophy, but all score a win. A crowd favorite is the Interpretive division, where just about anything goes. “The group that won this year was a mother and her three-year-old daughter,” recalls Kovach. “The daughter was teenytiny and wearing a monkey costume. She rode on her mom’s shoulders and waved and smiled and did her little part. That was super cool.”

A division that will always hold a special place in both participants’ and spectators’ hearts is Adaptive, which is aimed at those who have experienced life-changing injuries or other physical impairments. This year the event chose Wake For Warriors as its charity partner—an organization that connects with injured veterans and their families by sharing the healing power of water. Numerous members participated.

“All the riders in the Adaptive division had an absolute blast,” says

Kyle Nelson, Wake For Warriors’ Texas Director of Operations. “For one, they are all each other’s biggest supporters. This enables them to tackle all challenges together and overcome any hardships as a collective instead of individually. Also, it is so much fun for them to be able to show off their shredding skills and prove to themselves that, despite everything they have been through, they can still go out there and have a great time! When they are on the water, and they have everyone on the boat cheering them on, all of their problems dissipate.”

Carlos Figueroa, former participant and now a coach with the Texas chapter, says, “The healing power of being on the water is in the fact that when someone is out there, they feel weightless, which takes pressure from all injuries, visible or not.”

With the help of customers, local businesses, and community support, a new silent auction allowed event organizers to present Wake For Warriors with a check for over $5,000, money that translates to event transportation, lodging, food, and event support, as well as adaptive boarding gear and other safety equipment.

“The donations and money raised are very important in continuing our mission to reach as many veterans as possible,” continues Nelson. “This is a 100% volunteer organization, so all of the funds are going directly to the cause to help fund all of our events.”

Ready to drop into your own barrel? Barrel Boss 2023 promises to be bigger and better than ever. Kovach hints at adding another tow boat to the

mix to haul even more riders or even expanding the event to other dealerships throughout Texas.

Just look for some fun people coming together for a great cause—and some breaking surf deep in the heart of the state of Texas.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

MarineMax is helping those in need across the nation in many ways.

Since the company’s inception, MarineMax has been about enriching lives—and it does in more ways than one. Besides spreading joy and happiness on the water, MarineMax enjoys making a difference within the community. From improving the welfare of children to helping support a specified cause, MarineMax is all aboard with spreading smiles and ready to be of assistance. While MarineMax continues the mission to do good, below are some charitable contributions and recent events the company has taken part in during the second half of 2022.

GOING PINK WITH A PURPOSE

Pink was the go-to color for MarineMax for the day. On October 5, 2022, MarineMax

joined forces with the American Cancer Society for the Power of Pink Day, and team members nationwide helped spread awareness and focused on encouraging those who have not been screened for breast cancer to do so. MarineMax also donated $5,000 to assist in funding the mission of the American Cancer Society for education, research, and caregiver server services for patients. In addition, MarineMax Vacations donated two different charter trips at the American Cancer Society’s 2022 Tampa Cattle Baron’s Ball on September 24 in Tampa, FL, to make additional efforts to help “give cancer the boot.”

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 20 million cancer screenings were missed from 2020-2021, and projections were that

more than 290,000 people have since been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. However, with early detection and recommended screenings, lives can be saved. MarineMax is thankful for those who participated in the #PinkWithAPurpose campaign and is proud to continue supporting the mission to eradicate cancer and promote wellness amongst all.

FILL THE BOAT WITH LOVE EVENTS

Besides filling boats with happy boaters, MarineMax likes to work with local charities nationwide to fill them with goodies of all sorts. Stores on a local level play significant roles in organizing these events to encourage the community to donate various items such as food, toys, clothing, and more to aid those in need. From children through adults, many can use a helping hand, and MarineMax is more than willing to extend one. Read on for more boat-packing details!

TOYS FOR TOTS

During the past holiday season, MarineMax is proud to have collected many toys to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in various areas. MarineMax stores decked out a designated boat for a selected time frame to ready them for the cause. After, heaps of exciting, unwrapped toys were collected and donated for children through 12 years of age by many generous customers and team members.

An even more significant factor is that the Toys for Tots program also supports families in need year-round and happened to be celebrating its 75th anniversary. Want to learn more or help in another way? Visit toysfortots.org to find out additional details.

FEEDING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Along with filling boats with toys, MarineMax stores worked hard to stock them with food. Across the nation, canned goods and many other non-perishable items were collected to benefit local food pantries within the community. In one location in Austin, TX, there was a parking lot party with a pre-owned boat show and a holiday photo booth to promote filling the boat for the Central Texas Food Bank, which added even more excitement to the event. At MarineMax Danvers, the boat was available to fill throughout the holiday season for those who wanted to contribute. Although many may not see it in plain view or have experienced it directly, hunger is still a prominent issue affecting many across the United States. According

to feeding America.org, 53 million Americans relied on community programs and food banks in 2021. To learn more about these statistics or to donate, visit feedingamerica.org.

CONTRIBUTING TO A BETTER TOMORROW

MarineMax is proud to contribute to bettering the lives of those within the community on and off the water. Whether it is putting in an effort by volunteering time or donating blood, funds, or supplies to support a cause, our company team members find great value in helping and giving hope to others in need.

THE GRAND TOUR

Galeon’s 325 and 375 GTO models have much to offer in an easily manageable footprint.

Yachting | Galeon Yachts
44 MarineMax Lifestyles
375 GTO

Polish builder Galeon Yachts has captured the world’s imagination with its innovative designs that expertly mesh stalwart seaworthiness with style and panache that thrills. Currently, the company has two new offerings in its Grand Touring Outboard (GTO) series—the 325 and the 375—that have onboard features, design traits, and performance numbers that make them among the very elite of modern dayboats.

GALEON 325 GTO

The 325 GTO is a 32-foot, 7-inch vessel that can do most anything you ask of her. She is immediately recognizable as a Galeon even from afar, thanks to the open design of her superstructure and hull side glazing that is steak-knife sharp.

When stepping aboard, prospective owners are often impressed by the uncluttered, open transom and a swim platform that snugly hugs twin Mercury Verado® outboards that come in either 300-horsepower or 400-horsepower iterations. Guests are greeted by convertible seating at the transom that can face aft for watching swimmers or forward when the boat is underway. Dual entrances to the cockpit ensure that people aren’t bumping into one another when they are coming and going. And when Galeon’s famous Beach Mode is activated, a dropdown terrace expands the cockpit on this model into perhaps the largest in its class.

Gunnels lined with Galeon’s trademark stainless steel with flush cleats encircle a cockpit and main deck area ready for a party with L-shaped seating

to starboard and a wet bar with a grill and loads of prep space to port.

The starboard side helm has two seats with gorgeous and intricate stitching. Twin 16-inch Raymarine screens will keep the captain happy, as will excellent sightlines for 360 degrees. The wheel tilts and raises on an electric ram for maximum ergonomics, and a Mercury joystick system further enhances the driving experience. A side deck to port leads to the boat’s foredeck seating, which is always a treat while underway and aids with separation when adults and kids are using the boat simultaneously.

Down below, the cabin has over 6 feet of headroom, which is impressive for a boat of this size and type. A convertible dinette in the forepeak can be used as a daybed or for an overnight while there are additional berths for two aft.

45 MarineMax.com
325 GTO

GALEON 375 GTO

The 375 GTO is a slightly larger version of the 325 at 37 feet 9 inches, and the model makes the most of her extra length. Like the 325, the 375 was developed with Tony Castro Yacht Design and has an open superstructure with a sunroof. Her cockpit also has a Beach Mode feature that enhances the width of her beam and makes her unsurpassed among her peers as an entertainment platform.

The 375 has jaw-dropping performance numbers, including a blistering 55 mph top end, thanks to twin 600-horsepower Mercury V12 Verado outboards with contra-rotating, stainless steel propellers. Like the 325’s engines, the 375’s engines can be controlled by a joystick and are also Sky Hook-enabled for holding the boat still when waiting for a bridge to open, for example.

The boat’s main deck is highlighted by an innovative, fold-out dining table that services transom seating. There is also a fun, little one-seater to port that faces aft.

At the helm, the captain enjoys similar ergonomics and lines of sight as on the 325, but with the added benefit of massive electrically actuated side windows that are a first-in-class feature, setting the 375 apart from the crowd. Coupled with a sunroof, the windows mean the 375’s driving space can be nearly fully exposed to the elements for a truly thrilling ride. Notably, a second comfortable row of seats just aft of the helm is convertible and can face either forward or towards the engines.

To port, a segment of the windshield folds down and locks into place to offer easy access to the bow deck. There you’ll find a convertible table that can drop into a sunbed position, state-of-the-art JL Audio® speakers with Fusion® controls for tunes at speed, and a window through the portside glazing to watch the water whiz by when this boat is flying along.

Down below, the 375 has a dining settee in the forepeak that converts to a berth, as well as twin berths at amidships with a filler cushion that creates one massive mattress. A refrigerator and microwave further make this boat tempting to spend overnights aboard.

What you get with Galeon’s 325 GTO and 375 GTO are two boats built for serious fun on the water. No matter which size you choose, you can’t go wrong if you’re looking for an outboard-powered dayboat with innovative design and features galore. Even more exciting news for Galeon lovers is that additional GTO models are coming down the line!

AN EASY-BREEZY BOATING SEASON

Prepare yourself to spring into action on the water—boating season is around the corner!

Feel the fresh breeze and the gentle rays upon you as you propel swiftly through the water, or experience the excitement brew as you and your crew cast a line for the first time since the weather has warmed. Those are just some examples of how seamless the start of boating season should and can be. With the proper preparations, your day can also be about the adventures and good memories made onboard versus encountering any challenges if unprepared. To help you prep for success, below are some tips to help make the best of boating when you’re ready to take to the water.

INSPECT. INSPECT. INSPECT. There isn’t enough emphasis one can say to that! After an extended period of stillness or your boat essentially being in hibernation mode, it’s always best to inspect everything before you head back out on the water. From examining all the lines for cracks and testing the electronics to checking expiration dates on flares, fire extinguishers, and items on first aid kits, you can never be too detailed when it comes to your vessel passing all the safety tests.

It’s also good to be on the lookout for any critters that may have overtaken your boat for the winter. Stay alert and open any nooks and crannies on board with caution. PLAN YOUR PATH

Planning boating adventures in advance is always a good practice. Even if it’s just a trip on a whim for a couple of hours, a few measures to put in place beforehand can’t hurt. Some simple concepts to consider before you go are the five W’s: when are you leaving, where are you going, who are you taking, what are you bringing, and what is the weather like?

If you want to get more in-depth with planning, it might be wise to consider taking a class or two beforehand— especially if you’re a new boater since MarineMax can help! There are even some exciting events, day trips, and exclusive Get aways! ® happening locally and nationwide that MarineMax hosts.

LOAD UP FOR FUN

Boating is great but is even more exciting with fun additions, accessories, and necessities! Before your boat hits the water, think about what you may need beforehand. Since safety always comes first, do you have life jackets, and are they in good condition? Once that is solved, what type of water toys or watersports equipment would be entertaining for family or guests?

Spring is the perfect season to stock up on the newest equipment, such as wakeboards, water skis, fishing gear, waterproof dry bags, inflatable water toys, coolers, and so much more. It’s also a great time to stock up on the latest accessories for boats, such as a brandnew electric grill from Kenyon, vibrant LED lighting, or something even more unique, such as a handheld anemometer to measure windspeed. The possibilities are seemingly endless, and that rings true for a new boat, and spring is a great time to get one of those as well!

TIME FOR BOATING!

When it comes to boating, there’s always a reason to go. Whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary, a fishing trip with friends, or just because being out on the water is fantastic in many ways. For a worry-free time, just follow the steps above, pack the coolers, and enjoy. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

The new flagship of Cruisers Yachts GLS line is like having your own floating tropical island.

Yachting | Cruisers Yachts

For yacht owners who have avoided jumping on the outboard bandwagon because those vessels often have smaller swim decks than their inboard counterparts, Cruisers Yachts has the answer to that dilemma with its new 50 GLS. Featuring twin dropdown beach doors that greatly expand onboard space and increase access to the water, this signature feature creates a tropical vibe that’s one with nature.

It’s hard to believe a 52-foot, 4-inch-long, 14-foot, 6-inch-wide yacht weighing nearly 20 tons dry can be pushed to a top speed of nearly 57 mph by only three outboards, but its trio of 600hp Mercury V12 Verado® engines are a different breed. What’s especially impressive is that these 7.6L outboards can be mounted on 27-inch centers, which is only an inch more width than a 150hp engine requires, which, along with its clean installation, conserves space on the transom and has the effect of expanding the size of the swim platform. This Mercury magic is possible because the powerheads remain fixed, and only the lower units pivot to perform intricate

maneuvers guided by the standard Mercury Joystick Piloting for Outboards (JPO) system.

The V12 Verado outboard also has a two-speed transmission to help get the 50 GLS on plane faster. And it also has a massive 150-amp alternator, which is more than double the output of the Mercury 400 Verado, to help keep batteries fully charged to power-hungry electrical systems operating without running the generator when beached or anchored. At the helm, standard triple 19-inch Simrad® displays allow the captain to keep all pertinent information displayed simultaneously.

While Cruisers Yachts’ 50 Cantius maximizes interior space for extended cruising, the 50 GLS is all about giving onboard guests the ultimate day boat experience optimized for entertainment with features like an aft seating group that provides plenty of space for al fresco socializing and relaxing while a standard Makefast sunshade offers a respite from the sun. A wraparound bow seating area with an electronically actuated high/low table creates an intimate gathering spot,

and owners can choose to equip it with a bow sunshade. A one-level deck makes it easy for guests to move about freely without having to watch where they step.

The midship galley can be equipped with twin Isotherm refrigerators, along with an icemaker beneath the doublewide helm seat, and twin grills behind the aft lounger mean an onboard chef can whip up freshly cooked treats for everyone in one firing. The oversized food prep and display area are perfect for laying out a spread during parties. A nearby L-lounge offers seating under the hard top.

While the 50 GLS is primarily designed for recreation and entertaining, it’s also a capable weekender with a forward stateroom that has a queen-size island berth with plenty of storage. An aft guest stateroom can accommodate a second couple, and there’s a roomy head compartment conveniently located in between. Both staterooms feature 32-inch Samsung TVs, and a pop-up 55-inch one can be added to the cockpit. Down below is an abbreviated galley with a microwave and Isotherm refrigerator.

51 MarineMax.com

The GLS 50 gives owners the benefits of outboard power, such as enhanced performance and ease of maintenance, while also adding the ability to safely join the festivities at the sandbar without having it come at the expense of usable deck space.

At its unveiling at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the GLS 50 was a huge hit. “Even before the show, we have had an overwhelming response,” says Cruisers Yachts Director of Marketing Matt VanGrunsven. “This is a yacht people need to see in person to appreciate the impact the beach doors have on its spaciousness. It increases the beam to 21 feet and adds about 80 square feet to the cockpit.” For comparison, a Sunseeker 88 Yacht has a 21-foot beam.

MarineMax not only sells the entire line of Cruisers Yachts but was so impressed they acquired the company in 2021. This acquisition not only gives MarineMax the ability to provide input on creating a great product, but it also helps with influencing decisions, which accounts for 50 percent of its Cruisers Yachts’ sales. Chief Executive Officer and President of MarineMax W. Brett McGill explains, “The strategic acquisition of Cruisers Yachts benefits our customers by filling a meaningful void in our product portfolio, which was created in 2018 by the loss of Sea Ray sport yacht and yacht models.”

Cruisers Yachts Turns 70

Tracing its roots back to a time in 1953 when boats were built of wood by skilled artisans, Cruisers Yachts, based in Oconto, Wisconsin, bridges that heritage of craftsmanship to the present. Its first offerings under the Cruisers Yachts’ name were lapstrake, outboard-powered closed bow runabouts, but in 1965, it pivoted toward the future when wood was phased out and replaced by fiberglass as the building material of choice.

In 1983, Cruisers Yachts built its first boat over 30 feet long, called the Ultra Vee 336 Series II, and since has been steadily expanding its lineup to include bigger and better models. In 2005, it came full circle by phasing out its sub-30-foot boats, concentrating on building yachts up to its 60 Fly flagship. In 2021, Cruisers Yachts became part of the MarineMax family.

THE NEED FOR SPEED

For the Talcofskys, speed and thrills are the name of the game—that’s why they got an Azimut Verve 47.

Yachting | Azimut

You can tell a lot about a person by the pets that they keep. For Ximena and Eric Talcofsky of Swampscott, Massachusetts, that means sharks—big ones. The eccentric couple had a gang of the critters imported from the mean waters of Australia and keeps them in a 10,000-gallon tank inside their home. It’s a microcosm for the rest of their life.

The Talcofskys are a couple with a firm grip on what they like. And what they like is flair and excitement—and of course, speed. They currently own a fleet of Ferraris (plus a Rolls-Royce), so when they decided to expand upon their

shared love of the water by getting their first ocean-going boat, the Azimut Verve 47 was a near obvious choice.

“We are a little bit different,” says Eric. “We are passionate about fast vehicles, and we always wanted a boat, but whenever the time came, we always seemed to spend the money on a new garage or something for the cars. But when we wake up in the morning, we can see the ocean from our house, and when Azimut unveiled the 47 three years ago, we decided that it was a boat that really fit our lifestyle.”

For speed lovers, the Verve 47 is an excellent choice. The boat has a

patented, high-performance, Stepped ‘V’ Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) hull designed by Michael Peters—a famed designer with a race boat pedigree. The bottom’s double-step design effectively allows the Verve to float on a cushion of air, making for a fast ride and soft landings off the tops of waves—while also providing a phenomenal grip on the water’s surface. The yacht is also built with loads of carbon fiber, particularly in her superstructure, which keeps her weight down and her center of gravity equally low, for unrivaled stability both when moored and when underway. And, of course, the 47 has the power to spare.

55 MarineMax.com

Quadruple 450-horsepower Mercury 450R outboard racing engines allow this boat to top the magic 50-knot barrier, marking her as a true, go-fast boat.

For the Talcofskys, it was love at first sight. “It’s just a sexy, beautiful boat,” says Eric. “Cars are an extension of the people who own them, and I think boats are a lot the same way. The Verve is a perfect extension of our lifestyle. We don’t need a lot of volume—we didn’t want a flybridge. We wanted a go-fast yacht, and that’s what this boat is. We can have our friends aboard and get over to Provincetown in an hour and a half or Nantucket in less than three. We can shoot up to Gloucester. With those racing engines, you can get anywhere you want to go fast.”

But the couple loves the boat for more than just its world-class velocity. They also trust it in a seaway, and that’s

a testament to Azimut’s state-of-the-art design and construction techniques. “We had the boat in 8-footers in Buzzards Bay heading down to the Newport boat show,” says Eric, “and it handled those waves so well.”

“We had to take it back to 24 knots in those conditions,” adds Ximena, “you know it’s not that big a boat.”

Ximena was the impetus for buying this boat. She met MarineMax salesman Jared Simpson aboard an Azimut 55S at the Newport show a few years ago, and the two stayed in touch until the Verve jumped into the Talcofsky’s hearts.

“They’re just great people and exemplary clients,” says Simpson. “They love their boat, and they are so kind to our staff. They let people drive their Ferraris and Rolls-Royce when they come to the office. They’ve really become part of the MarineMax

family, and that is so important to me as their sales rep and also to MarineMax. We want people in the fold, and we want to help them enjoy their boating experience to the fullest at every turn. In the case of the Talcofskys, that might mean we help find them a captain if they don’t feel like running their boat that day; if they just want to unwind onboard, we have them covered.”

“Unwind” may be a bit of a relative term when it comes to the Talcofskys. If you couldn’t tell from their array of exotic cars, fast boats, and pet sharks in the living room, their brand of relaxation is just a tad unique.

THE AWE-INSPIRING LUXURY YACHT

Introducing the 28E luxury yacht in the Ocean Alexander Explorer line.

At the core of every Ocean Alexander design, you’ll find an unwavering commitment to providing clients with the ultimate yachting experience. This is never more evident than in the newest addition to the Ocean Alexander lineup, the 28E, which made its U.S. debut at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October. This 28-meter (94ft) stunning vessel is the largest yacht in the Explorer series. And with such unique design features, it certainly caught the attention of interested clients and yacht enthusiasts alike.

The 28E’s signature feature is the multi-functional aft platform. Whether you’re swimming, diving, jet skiing, or simply soaking up the rays, this extended deck

space is ideal for all sorts of water activities. The port and starboard sides have a fold-down bulwark that expands the beam to more than 26 feet. The hydraulic swim platform can lower water toys weighing up to 1,000 pounds into the water. But for larger tenders, the 28E is fitted with a crane that can lift up to 2,500 pounds directly into the water with ease. For those who enjoy fishing, the aft platform also comes equipped with a live bait well and sink. With 332 square feet of aft deck space, this yacht is perfect for those who love to make the most of their time on the water. Owners can create their own private beach without ever stepping off their yacht.

Stepping into the main salon, the 28E’s striking, modern design is met with the functionality owners crave in a yacht.

The main salon has massive windows that give unparalleled views and emphasize the open-concept living and dining space. The galley is equipped with exquisite stone counters, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, and ample room for provisions.

The on-deck master stateroom will simply take your breath away. A gorgeous skylight above the bed acts as the perfect star gazing spot for owners but, of course, has electric shades for privacy. If that wasn’t enough, the spacious head and walk-in closet make this space feel like a private getaway primed for relaxation and unwinding.

Moving below the deck, you’ll find four more staterooms. It’s in the forward VIP stateroom where the expanded space from the vertical bow is most noticeable.

59 MarineMax.com

The queen-sized bed, private head, and walk-in closet emphasize the spaciousness of the room. Continuing aft, another stateroom is equipped with two twin beds that can either come together or stay apart to accommodate a variety of guests. And finally, you’ll find two more gorgeous staterooms that mirror each other. No matter which room your guests stay in, you will most certainly leave your guests feeling like royalty.

Not only will staterooms be found below deck but also a multi-functional utility room. This space can be utilized for fitness, storage, or laundry. A stacked washer and dryer, additional refrigeration and freezer, and plenty of room for fitness equipment or storage make this room customizable to the owner’s needs.

The skylounge houses the helm station with touchscreen Garmin navigation and other top-of-the-line technology equipment.

Only the best of the best goes on an Ocean Alexander yacht to ensure efficiency and safety for every vessel. With unbelievable views, a comfortable seating area, and a bar, the skylounge is the ideal spot for entertaining guests. The outdoor space has a sizeable Jacuzzi, custom-made grill, wet bar, and a lounge area that is sure to be the center of every party.

The 28E is more than beauty and luxury. It’s power as well. The 28E’s twin

MAN V12 1650hp engines and 2,980-gallon fuel capacity will take you where you want to go. Comfortably cruising at hull speeds between 9-10 knots, the 28E provides a range of 1,200 nautical miles, allowing you to reach destinations near and far with ease.

Ocean Alexander continues to create, innovate, and produce the highest quality yachts, as they have done for the last four decades. The combination of bold design, world-class engineering, and an unswerv-

ing dedication to quality has produced a yacht that is unrivaled. The hope of the Explorer series is to encourage the freedom to explore. That being said, where will you explore next?
