Commander, Marine Forces Reserve
You have made a significant investment in earning the title of Marine. Your journey to finally holding that eagle, globe and anchor is undoubtedly among your most significant accomplishments. You must never forget the effort it took to get you there and what it means to be a Marine. While most of us are already doing the right thing, there are certain behaviors, particularly with alcohol, that can compromise this, and all of your other achievements. The essence of the “Protect What You’ve Earned” campaign is to not put at risk via a poor decision the rank you have earned, the money you make, your professional reputation, and your standing in the eyes of your loved ones and peers. I expect all of our leaders, from the noncommissioned officers all the way up the chain of command, to disseminate this important message. We uphold our standards both in and out of uniform. Being a Marine is a privilege. You’ve earned it. You must view it as an investment and protect what you have earned. Semper Fidelis.
