Based in cosmopolitan Singapore, Marilyn Tan grew up surrounded by art and design. Her stylish mother loved jade jewellery and her father ignited in her a curiousity of other cultures and encouraged her to explore and travel.
These experiences shaped Marilyn’s drive to create. Although she trained and practiced as a lawyer, her love of gemstones and design could not be denied, and she started designing jewellery.
As well as her bespoke jewellery business, Marilyn Tan creates MTJ Collections. These limited-edition designs are inspired by her love of exploring far-flung countries, and connecting with people of other cultures, viewed through a Singaporean lens and interpreted using fine Asian craftsmanship. The focus is gems with character and brave designs that stir emotion.
“Why can’t luxury and style be for every day? I believe designer jewellery is a timeless piece of art that will never go out of fashion; it’s unique, personalised, and made with quality materials.”
MTJ Collections by Marilyn Tan Jewellery offers exquisite jewellery pieces crafted with the highest quality materials and attention to detail, so you can show off your personal style and express yourself in the most beautiful way possible.
Established in 1988, Marilyn Tan Jewellery combines innovative techniques and contemporary design with classic attention to detail.
Always drawn to strong design and gemstones with personality, she uses fine jewellery techniques like gold vermeil. This is where a thick layer of gold is applied to sterling silver. Some 100 times thicker than flash plating used for mass-market pieces, vermeil creates stunning jewellery at an accessible price.
Marilyn Tan also uses rhodium – a precious metal related to platinum. A thick layer of rhodium is plated over sterling silver or stainless steel to create luxurious jewellery that can stand up to daily wear.
Marilyn Tan believes in creating unique and stylish jewellery that incorporates her deep knowledge of gemstones, craftsmanship and precious metals. Her jewellery is for a woman who is confident in herself, who chooses jewellery as an everyday companion, and to mark the most beautiful occasions in her life.
Marilyn Tan Jewellery is the recipient of several international awards, including Designer of The Year. Her designs have been featured in several museum collections. Her design atelier is highlighted in the international luxury shopping guidebook, the Louis Vuitton City Guide to Singapore.

Strong, yet light enough for comfortable wear, these bold and statement designs are perfect for everyday wear.
The Desert Rose crystal is a natural crystal that only grows in deserts. Each crystal is utterly unique – a symbol of optimism and life.
A Desert Rose crystal is born over eons, as crystals of gypsum fan out towards water and life, gradually forming delicate layers of sparkling crystals that look like rose petals.
MTJ Desert Rose collection features delicate fittings in lasting gold vermeil.
Phalange or Knuckle rings are different to standard rings, because instead of wearing the ring low on your finger, you wear it above your finger's middle joint. It’s a strong and contemporary look that attracts attention with every move of your hand.
MTJ Phalange Rings are specially shaped with a curved back and subtle bevelled angles to be supremely comfortable to wear.
Hand-crafted in three precious metals:
Sterling Silver plated in Rose Gold Vermeil
Sterling Silver plated in White Rhodium
Sterling Silver plated in Black Rhodium

The BFF bracelet/necklace is 18cm long and finished with stainless steel fittings that do not tarnish.

Show your inner strength with flexible mesh cuffs and rings that are hand-wound with Sterling Silver wire.
Each piece in this striking jewellery range is crafted from modern silver mesh that is richly plated in precious metals. And because the gleaming Sterling Silver wire is applied by hand, each piece in this collection is unique.
The open ends of the cuff bracelets and rings als make the sizes very flexible and easy to wear, whether you prefer to wear just one, or stack on several pieces.
Available in four finishes; 18 carat yellow gold vermeil, rose gold, shining rhodium or black rhodium.
Do you know the finger you wear your rings has a special meaning?
Wearing a ring on the thumb symbolizes wealth and power, and signals self-confidence. Emperors and royalty traditionally wear rings on their thumb to show their majesty.
Wearing a ring on your index finger (or pointing finger, nearest the thumb) shows you are unmarried – and have a noble personality. In Medieval Europe, wearing a ring on the Index finger of your right hand showed you were single, and open to finding love.
Wearing a ring on your middle finger shows that your emotional life is balanced and sweet.
Ring Finger - Left Hand
Many cultures wear wedding rings on the ring finger of your left hand. This romantic belief started in the time of the Ancient Romans and Greeks, who believed a special blood vessel from the heart ran directly to the ring finger. Wearing a ring here symbolizes putting love near to your heart.
Ring Finger - Right Hand
Today, wearing a ring on the ring finger of your right
A rare precious metal in the platinum family, rhodium is more expensive than gold. It is used in top-quality bespoke jewellery because it resists scratches, does not change colour and stays shiny, unlike white gold or silver.
Gold-filled, also known as gold vermeil is a unique blend of high-quality precious metals. Gold is layered onto a sterling silver base – this layer is 100 times thicker than common flash plating.
So gold-filled or gold vermeil will not wear or fade. It gives you the best quality, for the best price.
