Hi! My name is Maria and I’m a first master student at the University of Antwerp! I study Product Development at the faculty of design.
I am very fascinated by the design process of products and product systems, especially the point where technical aspects meet aesthetics. The interaction between these two is one of the most interesting things I have experienced so far while studying Product development.
Past 2,5 years I improved my design skills by attending lectures, talking to supervisors/other designers, but most important by working together with other students. I learned that collaborating with others and admiring their work is one of the most important things to keep a critical eye on your own work.

The challenge of this assignment was to design a product family with three products which are redesigned while keeping ergonomic requirements in mind. Both of my group partners and I individually designed a DIY product that meets ergonomic requirements, user requirements and common form characteristics appropriate to the chosen target group.
In first instance, I introduce here the branding phase, where we designed a corporate identity with a matching logo. After that, you can see presentation posters of my DIY-clamp and our product family.

This design exercise is situated within user-centered design, and focuses on interaction with digital products and systems. The purpose was to look at the concept from the perspective of embodied interaction. This product is a smart mirror which helps the customer to make the right decision when buying a new pair of glasses at an eyewear store.

To visualize the actual interaction between the user and the product, my groupmate and I created a video which shows the entire process. Here you can see some stills from the video. Don’t forget to take a look at our project via the link or QR-code below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4f5byZduk4

For this exercise we worked together with ETAP, a participating company. At the start of the assignment, we dived into the analysis phase of a ceiling lamp. We looked at the product in detail from different perspectives: functionality, concept of use and assembly. The key question was: how can it be improved? The analysis is followed by designing and verifying our ideas in order to find an optimal solution and working it out in detail. A technical challenge with beautiful results.
HARDSKILLS PROJECTS
While studying Product Development, many hard skills are also taught, I maintain these by using them in every assignment. From sketching in photoshop to modeling in CAD and rendering in Visualize. Here are some examples of projects I’ve worked on in recent years.
