We are the new Student Council and we are already busy organising events for the year. We have lots of great ideas and we can't wait to begin our Leadership training.

Each house has their own Captain who leads their house and counts the House Points each week. During the monthly assemblies, the totals for the month are read out and we announce the winning Houses.

sister. I'm 11 years old and I'm in Year 6. My favourite colour is purple and I like baking in my free time. I also like doing art and hanging out with my friends. I look forward to working with my Student Council team and help organise exciting activities for the students.

We hope you enjoy reading our latest edition of The ISF Student Times.

INTERNATIONAL DAY Wh at w e did: In the morning, we had a big assembly, learning about different countries and cultures. Each class told the school their name and what country they came from. The older children spoke in their own languages too. Then we went into our House groups. We went to different classrooms and learned about famous artists. Rubens studied Esther Mahlangu from south Africa and made shoes in her style, Sax had Yayoi Kusama from Japan and made decorated pumpkins , Hergé had Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri from Australia and made didgeridoos, and last but not least, Mercator had Ted Harrison from Canada and made landscapes using felt-tip markers. After all this work, we got to visit the lunch room where there was so much food donated by the parents from their home countries, it was hard to choose what to eat. The food was amazing! We then finished off our projects in our Houses and shared our work in an end of the day assembly.

UN PEACE DAY Wh at w e did:

On the 21st September all the children enjoyed different activities to celebrate UN Peace Day. Year 6 made paper doves and thought about what peace means to them Year 5 made peace signs, Year 3 - 4 made hand trees Years 1 - 2 made peace signs on paper plates Pre-Primary and Pre-School made friendship bracelets and peace hearts,

Year 6 also talked about COVID and how the world needs to work together to solve the problem. Working together will bring about a quicker end to the pandemic.

Un it ed Nat ion s: Righ t s Of t h e Ch ild Wh at w e did: Pre-School made houses from lolly sticks and drew a picture of themselves inside - showing they had the right to a safe place to live. Pre-Primary r ole-played different emotions. The children each got a different card with an emotion and tried to express them in front of their peers. The other children had to guess what emotion they were acting. So much fun!

Years 1 and 2 talked about the Rights of the Child and sorted each right with its picture. They also coloured a lovely poster!

Years 3 and 4 discussed the UN Rights of the Child, creating a hand tree where the children wrote 5 (one for each digit) points from the charter that they felt resonated with them. Year 5 made hand prints with their rights written on them and Year 6 discussed their rights and created a graffiti wall of their rights thinking about which rights were important to themselves and the global community.

En glish Week - Wh at

w e did:

We had a hard-working week learning new skills and we enjoyed learning new aspects of the English Language. Some of the activities included: Pre- School listened to the story 'Stuck' and then created a picture of the things stuck in a tree, just like the story. They also made their own class book about their favourite stories Pre-Primary sang a song in their own home language. They also did different challenges where they tried to solve a problem by only talking gibberish and the other time talking English. They discovered that it was much easier to solve a problem when they all spoke the same language.

Years 1 and 2 talked about English accents. They made their own masks and acted out 'The Gingerbread Man' story. They had lots of fun! Years 3 and 4 followed the structure and themes of American 'Tall Tales' and the children wrote adventure stories with themselves and an animal friend as the main characters. Year 5 read 'Cloud Tea Monkeys' and had a tea tasting. Gabriela even gave a presentation about South African English from South Africa! Year 6 wrote monologues about something which personally interested them and loved filming each other presenting them.

Spor t s Day Wh er e: At Wat er loo f or Y3-6 an d Ear ly Year s at Ter vu r en Wh at w e did: Sports day was a day where all the students from Year 3-6 piled into a big bus, and then drove off to a sports field, where we had a competitive sports day with ISF Waterloo. The Primary students focused on competition, while the Secondary students had their own sports games. There were also refreshment stands. Parents of the children or the PTA sold different kinds of food, like hot dogs and energy drinks. These are the different types of sports that we did: 1. Skiing 2. Long jump 3. Ball throwing 4. Tug of war 5. Running/sprinting At the end, winners were called out after each game. Then we all had lunch, and then rode back to school on the bus or with their parent if they were there. The Early Years and Years 1 and 2 had their own sports day on the field and enjoyed lots of competitive games and fun.

M ovie M or n in g We all had a great morning watching our chosen movies and wearing our winter woollies or pyjamas. We loved having juice and freshly-made popcorn too, thanks to Mrs Maria.
