Becky Paschke began her teaching career at Dennison Elementary where she taught general music for 9 years. She followed her students to D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School where she taught instrumental music for 6 years. During her tenure at D’Evelyn, Paschke’s programs earned state championships at the Colorado State Marching Band Competition year after year. A highlight of her teaching career included being selected during the pandemic to perform at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration Parade. Her ensembles consistently earned superior ratings at festivals across the state. The D’Evelyn marching band earned the status of Bands of America Regional Class Champions and finalists in Texas.
Becky has served on the Colorado Bandmasters Association board for the past 6 years as small schools representative, President-Elect, and President. She is finishing her term now with 2 years of service as Past President. During her tenure, she hosted 2 professional development conferences for band teachers across the state and raised stipends for the employees serving the music students in Colorado.
Becky is an active adjudicator for marching and concert bands in Colorado but also across the country. She currently performs at the Denver Broncos home games in the Stampede.
Paschke earned her administration license during the pandemic with the goal of supporting the arts and activity programming for an entire building. She is currently the activities director and assistant principal at Conifer High School.
One of Becky’s greatest strengths is her ability to work with a diverse group of students. Her enthusiasm, patience, and genuine interest in the well-being of each student have had a profound impact on their success. Becky’s leadership and motivational skills inspire students to reach their full potential and value education as a lifelong pursuit.
In addition, Becky has shown herself to be a skilled problem solver and innovator, particularly in her work with the electives department. Her collaboration with other schools and strategic allocation of resources have allowed elective programming to thrive despite challenges such as declining enrollment.
Dr. Roth has been an educator since 1985, and she still has much to offer the world of education. She is constantly curious about content areas and makes marked efforts to improve her ability to evaluate those areas. Dr. Roth started as a French teacher, and she has been at Fort Collins High School for 21 years, and 18 of those years have been as an administrator. Dr. Roth moved from teacher to dean of students to assistant principal, and she has now been principal for two years at FCHS. Both of Dr. Roth’s children have attended and graduated from FCHS. Her son, Samuel is now a music producer and guitarist in Nashville, making a career out of the music education he received at FCHS. Dr. Roth and her husband live in Fort Collins. Her husband, David, is a drummer and loves all kinds of music as well. Dr. Roth is an avid supporter of comprehensive programming, making sure every student is able to pursue their passion. The performing arts is lucky to have a principal that offers the kind of support she does. ***
In the last 10 years, the FCHS Performing Arts department has grown from around 450 students to more than 800 students. This is due to several factors, including increased course offerings. When Dr. Roth was assistant principal, she helped us lead the effort to open the performing arts to those students who didn’t get the opportunity to start in middle school by helping us increase our course offerings and staffing. Through collaboration with performing arts teachers, she has helped us reach historically under served populations of students, including our special needs students.
Samuel Conner is a graduate of the music education department at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Sam studied under Dr. Joel Schut, and plays cello and double bass. Sam is highly involved as a music teacher in Colorado, as he is an active member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), an active member of his state’s American String Teacher’s Association (ASTA) chapter, and has received many leadership opportunities within the music education scene in Colorado, such as presenting at past CMEA conferences, CASTA conferences, as well as being selected to present at National ASTA in 2025. In addition to sitting on the Colorado ASTA executive board as an area representative, Sam teaches in the Green Mountain Area in six different schools and performs with the Parker Symphony Orchestra, as well as other local ensembles. Currently Sam is in his 3rd year as Orchestra Director for the Green Mountain HS articulation area.
Xareny Polanco is currently the Orchestra, Choir, and Mariachi Director at Timberline PK-8 in Longmont, Colorado. In addition to being a public school music teacher, she maintains a private Violin and Viola studio and is an active professional and freelance violist in different ensembles, including the Longmont Symphony Orchestra. Along with Camp Con Brio, Xareny has worked with various organizations including the Westview Summer Music Academy in Longmont as Violin and Viola teaching artist, as well as the Poudre School District Summer Music Academy.
Xareny received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Colorado State University with an emphasis in Instrumental Music. During her time at CSU, she served as Secretary, Vice-President,and President of their ASTA Student Chapter, and Secretary for their Colorado NAfME Student Chapter.
Xareny is passionate about providing equal opportunities for all of her students and strives to help her students grow not only as musicians, but as people. This will be her fourth year on staff.
Xareny has been the Orchestra director at Timberline for the past four years. In this role, she has reinvigorated an orchestra and choir program that feeds the Visual and Performing Arts focus at Skyline High School. She is dedicated to providing a full experience to all of her students regardless of discipline and strives to make meaningful and realistic connections.
Raleigh “Butch” Eversole IV was a founding member of the faculty and the Core Planning Team for Palmer Ridge High School, where he taught from 2008 to 2023. In addition to his time at Palmer Ridge, Butch has taught at Lewis-Palmer High School, Manitou Springs High School, and Manitou Springs Middle School. He currently serves on the faculty at Colorado State University-Pueblo and conducts the Little London Winds, a semi-professional wind ensemble. Butch has also held roles as a graduate teaching assistant in jazz studies at the University of Northern Colorado, taught saxophone at Colorado College, and conducted at the LeBam International Summer Band Camp in Beirut, Lebanon. His ensembles have performed multiple times at prestigious events, including seven appearances at the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Conference and four at the Music for All National Festival.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Shepherd University in West Virginia and a Master of Music in saxophone performance from the University of Northern Colorado.
Butch is a Past-President of CMEA and has served as Chair of the Instrumental Council and the CBA Southern Region Representative. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In 2024, he was inducted into the CBA Hall of Fame and received the 2020 “Outstanding Bandmaster” award from the Kappa Chapter of Phi Beta Mu. A dedicated saxophonist, Butch continues to perform regularly across classical, jazz, and pop genres.
“One of Butch’s greatest characteristics is his ability to rationally evaluate a situation and intuitively arrive at a solution. This is just one reason that Mr. Eversole is not only a great teacher, but is also a valuable mentor to educators and students who strive to be leaders among their peers”.
“Butch’s humble dedication to the success of others is one of his most inspiring qualities. One simply needs to walk into his rehearsal to see deep engagement in and excitement for the material at hand by student and director alike.”
“If you were to ask Butch’s students, the one thing they would tell you is that they felt loved and valued by Butch; he creates such a loving and caring environment for his students and that is why he was able to achieve amazing results in his ensembles”.
“As a teacher, Butch’s dedication to the development of student confidence was truly remarkable. His sense of humor, respect for individual differences and ability to relate to a myriad of student personalities transcended the normal classroom. Inspiring young students to lend individual talent to the greater sense of the group made his bands cohesive, musically stimulating and refreshingly dynamic. Students’ willingness to serve something greater than themselves was thrilling for me to witness.”
Through his significant contribution to the music education profession, Raleigh E (Butch) Eversole is hereby inducted into the CMEA Hall of Fame on this 30th day of January 2025.
Janice Vlachos received her Bachelor of Music in 1992 from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. During her 29 years as a high school director, 17 vocal groups under her direction have been selected to sing at the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) annual conference. Beginning her Colorado teaching career in 1993 at Lyons Junior/Senior High School followed by eight years at Wheat Ridge High School and three years at Chatfield High School, she returned “home” in 2005 to Fairview High School in Boulder where her love of music began as a student, under the direction of Mr. Ron Revier and Jim Keller. At Fairview, Ms. Vlachos directed five choirs, served as chairperson of the fine arts department, and produced and directed the annual fall musical and spring Pops shows. Her SATB and SSA jazz ensembles performed at the Jenerations Jazz Festival. Age of Guinevere, the SSAA jazz ensemble that Ms. Vlachos started in 2007, won the 2011 Downbeat Award for Large Jazz Groups; in 2013, they performed at the National American Choral Directors conference in Dallas and, in 2017, performed on the main stage at the Jazz Educators conference in New Orleans. In 2020, Age of Guinevere performed alongside highly acclaimed artist Lauren Kinhan at CMEA. Ms. Vlachos is a member of CMEA, JEN, and ACDA, serving as past R & S chair for COACDA, as well as past Women’s and Jazz Repertoire and Resource chair for Southwestern ACDA. In 2019, Ms. Vlachos had the opportunity to coteach a jazz seminar with Jennifer Barnes at the University of North Texas Jazz Camp, and was honored to be the guest conductor for the 2022 Oklahoma All State Jazz Choir. Janice contributed a chapter in the book Rehearsing the vocal jazz ensemble published by Gia Publications. In her retirement she stepped into the position of COACDA President for 2022-2024, loves working as a clinician, hanging out with her family and has started her own business as a cut flower farmer.
“She is a teacher through and through - and whether it’s high school students, community theater cast members, or new and current choral directors, Janice has so much to offer and she gives freely. Her legacy is not something of the past - it is vibrant and as alive as ever.”
“Over her long career Janice has excelled in every aspect of music education: choral director, musical director, department head, festival judge, professional accompanist, guest clinician and conductor, and theatre/music director. She has had her high school choral groups selected to perform at countless conventions, workshops, and festivals. I believe she holds the record for the most times selected to present a high school choral concert at CMEA, and her ensembles have represented the total range of styles and genres of high school choral performing, from classical to jazz, in women’s, men’s, and mixed groupings. She is equally effective with the most gifted of students to the most challenged, making all of her students feel not only accepted, but worthy and valued, and truly capable of accomplishing and succeeding..”
Through her significant contribution to the music education profession, Janice Vlachos is hereby inducted into the CMEA Hall of Fame on this 30th day of January 2025.
