Monsters of the Month: June 10

F

or the month of June, the Member of the Month is David Nguyen. David has stood out of the crowd because of his self-determination to stay proactive at service events. Witnessing what David love and passion for this organization is truly remarkable. The countless times that he has shown that he cares about Key Club and the many different people in it is truly remarkable. He has shown true example by all the core characters, and knows the true essence of Caring- Our Way of life. It is safe to say that David will go onto great things within out Sheldon Ohana and he will achieve so much.

or the Month of June, the Officer of the Month is Shirle He. Shirle is our first social chair and being that she is the first, she has already created a legacy for herself, seeing all the many ideas and passion that she has for our Socials is truly amazing. Since she took office, she has grown as a Key Club Leader by allowing herself to know what Key Club is. She has so much in store for Sheldon Key Club this year, and I know that she can’t wait to have the socials she has already planned out. Look out for her Summer Social.

uring the grape escape service event, I helped cleaned up in downtown. I was tired and exhausted by carrying heavy tables, picking up trash, and folding table clothes for 3 hours. Although it was exhausting, me and the other members worked hard together and finished early. Afterwards, we all went out to eat to reward ourselves from all the hard work. Overall, it was the most memorable service event l have been to. A lot of members attended and I got to bond with each of them even more.

remember getting a small camera that still used film when I was 5 years old. I took that camera with me where ever I went; even if it had no film most of the time. That still didn't stop me from exploring and hearing the satisfying click and windup each time I took a photo. Later on in high school, I decided to get back into photography, at a level and passion that was stronger than ever before. When I found the tech editor position for Key Club, I thought who better to share my love for capturing the moment than a club who lives to serve the community every day? As I went through my term, my skill and love for it grew even stronger.

y favorite thing about volunteering is knowing that I am able to give back to the community. The events that are available are also very enjoyable, even though you’re just helping with the event. I also get to interact with other members within the club and outside the club. By volunteering it gives me the feeling that I am contributing back to the community because I can not work yet. Volunteering for key club acts as a workplace for me, while having fun with others. For example, volunteers broke down the event, cleaned up, and picked up trash after The Grand Tasting was over. We worked hard to clean up, but we still had fun because we were working with our peers. Without volunteering I would have never gotten close to other members and I would’ve never known some members. Key club has made me grow a love for volunteering. Before key club I was never active in school activities, because of that it gave me something to do outside of school. Volunteering has kept me busy when I have nothing to do. During the summer, I get bored so I anticipate in looking forward in volunteering for more events because I have nothing to do at home. Overall, I enjoy being in key club and participating in the events. to serve the community every day? As I went through my term, my skill and love for it grew even stronger.

While volunteering at a Key Club event or having fun with other members, you’re bound to experience some weird and funny moments. Here, members of SHSKC share their funniest experiences! “The funniest moment that happened to me was the afternoon of our 20162017 board meeting. As usual, we were supposed to reflect on all events that had occurred so far. But of course, who wouldn't be hungry during this process? I was very, very hungry. At the time, Justina did not have much to eat aside from snacks and mac n cheese. I would never turn down the opportunity to eat mac n cheese, so being the mother that she is, she made me a tiny portion. After I finished eating, I was still very hungry. In order to solve this problem, I thought having a couple snacks would be a good idea to fill my stomach with. I grabbed a snack bag of cheezits and sat back down on the webbed chair. As I was attempting to open the bag, being the Cindy that I am, I complete destroyed the bag that contained all the chips. The chips jumped out of the bag and landed all over her floor and my clothes. I did not even eat one piece yet. Since I have learned not to waste food as a child, I ate some of the cheezits that landed on my shirt and crab-walked to the trash can, making sure I did not drop anything. As for the cheezits on the floor, let's say we weren't able to clean it all up without the help of a vacuum.” - Cindy Luu

“My funniest moment during a Key Club event is more of a dumb moment for me. I believe it was during the Santa Run when all the volunteers were getting ready to take a group photo so I ran because everyone was waiting on me. While I was running, my phone fell out of my pocket and unfortunately, the screen cracked; there was a moment of gasps. It was pretty embarrassing to me. “ -Nicole Hoang
