WEEKLY BULLETIN Dear Parents and Carers, The School Council ensured that I had a very challenging start to the week, as we held our first full School Council meeting. The council representatives met briefly last month and completed a survey with their classmates, but on Monday we met to discuss the findings. The children raised a number of requests – some of these were not possible, but we found alternatives to ensure that all children were listened to. For example, we cannot fit more PE lessons into our curriculum, but will happily provide more opportunities for sports sessions at lunchtimes. The council representatives also put forward suggestions for fundraising, such as sports equipment, which I will discuss with Friends of Lower Heath at our next meeting on Monday. The children were also in disagreement with some proposals that their classmates had made, so will be going back to the whole school to hold a vote. It was a very productive meeting! In other news, Year 6 went to RAF Shawbury for a ‘Safety Scene’ visit. Here, children experienced different safety scenarios, including fire safety, water safety and first aid. This is a useful experience for all children involved and we were proud of all Year 6 children for taking part so enthusiastically and behaving so well. Mrs Deborah Sadler, Headteacher

Rest East Parent Workshop Emily Gearing, creator of the Rest Easy method, has kindly offered to run a parent workshop to keep everyone informed about this approach which we have now adopted in school. Her workshop will be immediately after the Kinetic Letters workshop, on Monday 21st October at 10am. We hope that you will be able to join us to find out more. We will also have information available at our Parents’ Evenings.

Sponsored Read We are having a sponsored read over half term! Letters and sponsorship forms have been sent home in book bags today. This will be followed up with a book fair on Monday 11th November, 2-4pm. We hope that your child takes part!

Parent Workshops All of the classes in our school will be starting a new handwriting programme, called Kinetic Letters, over the next week. Staff have all completed training on this exciting new approach, which has helped many children across the country to make super progress in writing. The programme is about much more than making children write more neatly. It is about developing their writing fluency, stamina and speed. In doing so, this allows children to concentrate on the content of their writing, instead of the physical process. We would really like to share this new programme with parents, and to offer suggestions as to how parents can help their children at home. We will be running Parent Workshops on Monday 21st October at 9am, and repeated again at 4pm. I will also have information available during Parents’ Evenings, and the Parent DropIn sessions next half term will allow you to see the programme in action in the classrooms. Please join one of the workshops if you can!

Parent Forum The next Parent Forum will take place on Wednesday 23rd October, 9:00-10:30am. This will coincide with the next Friends of Lower Heath coffee morning. We hope that many of you will be able to join us – it is a great way to offer your feedback about the school, and to put forward suggestions for its development. Your ideas would be very welcome!

Open Afternoon Wednesday 20th November 1:30-3:30pm Our annual Open Afternoon is fast approaching, and this is a great opportunity for prospective parents to visit our school and see us in action! Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested in bringing their child(ren) to Lower Heath CE Primary – we would like the opportunity to welcome them. Similarly, parents of our current pupils are very welcome to join us to see what each class is doing in their topic areas. A programme of events for the afternoon will be shared in the coming weeks, but remember to save the date!
