IAM Certificate in ICT (online) Units The IAM certificate in ICT (online) consists of Core and Optional. The three core units are compulsory. In addition you must select two out of the five Optional Units. This makes five units in total. The units are as follows: Core Units

What do I need to do?

To gain the IAM Certificate in ICT (online) you will need to do the following:

Complete the exercises, on-line tasks and practical tasks related to the modules you have selected.

Submit two pieces of coursework.

The exercises are designed to help you learn and develop ICT skills and the coursework gives you the chance to demonstrate that you can actually use the skills in practice.

Resources You will need to locate the following resources:

The online, interactive tutor. This opens in a web browser and will probably be on your local intranet or VLE.

A set of electronic exercise files for the modules you are taking. You will need to download these files to complete the exercises in this booklet.

The Online Tutor When you access the on-line tutor you should work your way through the sections listed for each module you are taking. Each section is a series of interactive animations.

On the next page is a typical screen-shot from the online tutor. You should note: (i)

Each topic is divided into a number of modules.

The modules are also subdivided into sections.

(iv)

Navigation buttons allow you to move easily within the sections.

As you work through each section listen carefully as there is a lot of information. It is good to revise your current skills and there may just be something that you do not know.

At various points you will be asked to interact with the software by either clicking on the screen inside a rectangle (a flashing arrow will point at this rectangle) or by pressing a key on your keyboard (the key to be pressed will appear on the screen). You can pause an animation at any time by clicking on the pause button below the screen. Clicking again will start the module at the point you finished.

Navigation Tools Exercises The exercises require you to use the ICT skills that have been demonstrated by the interactive, online tutor. After working through the online tutorials you should attempt the relevant exercises using the files you have downloaded.

As you finish each of the exercises you should keep a note at the back of this booklet and make sure your teacher verifies your work is correct.

You will need evidence that you have used these skills to pass the certificate so make sure you keep the electronic version of the all the exercises you complete unless they are online.

Online Tests Some of the modules may ask you to complete some online tests. Your teacher will guide you through this process.

Practical Tasks In some modules you may be required to complete practical tasks. These will be assessed by your teacher. You should treat these as mini pieces of coursework and you will be expected to provide a electronic presentation of how you completed the tasks, i.e. a flash animation showing what you did or a pdf document with some screen shots with a little bit of explanation (see coursework guidance below).

Coursework As you proceed through the course you will be expected to complete some coursework. In addition to the exercises you do which cover the skills from the five modules you are also expected to produce a minimum of two pieces of coursework. In total the two pieces of coursework you submit must demonstrate at least ten level 3 skills. In addition, these ten skills must be drawn from at least three modules.

When you have completed a piece of work you think is suitable for the certificate you should produce an electronic presentation (e.g. a flash file) which explains what you have done. This presentation should demonstrate to the moderator:

The audience you produced the work for – this may be just one end-user in the case of a spreadsheet or it may be your fellow students studying AS level History in the case of a revision web site.

A brief summary of why you have undertaken the work and what the requirements were.

A simple analysis of any data you have already collected.

A detailed look at the level 3 ICT skills you used in producing the work and why you have used them in that particular instance, and finally

Some testing of the system. To show that the system actually works and that it meets the end users requirements.

It is anticipated that the coursework presentations will be multi-media including sound, text, still images and/or movies. To do this you can use, for example, screen-capture software, create flash presentations or use PowerPoint. Your final submission must be in electronic form and be of the file format .pps, .avi, mpeg or .swf (embedded in html).

For each piece of coursework you should fill in the details in the Record of Evidence card at the back of this booklet where you can record:

The subject area for which you did the piece of work

What level 3 ICT skills you used

The name and signature of the teacher who accepts the work as fit for purpose

Where the electronic version of your work is saved

The date you completed/submitted the work, and finally

The signature of your internal ICT moderator who will verify that it is your own work and that the work is suitable for the IAM Certificate in ICT (online).

Module 1 - Data Handling (Spreadsheets) DH 1.1 - Chemicals Step 1: Open the spreadsheet chemicals.xls. Here you will find a list of 11 chemicals together with their Ph values. The Ph value tells you the acidity/alkalinity of the chemical. Chemicals with a Ph value of 7 are considered neutral, Ph values of 1 – 6 are considered to be acids and Ph values of 8 – 14 are considered to be alkaline.

Step 2: Write a formula using nested IF statements in cell C4 which will produce the text “Acid”, “Neutral” or “Alkaline” depending on the Ph value of the chemical in row 4.

Step 3: Now use fill down to replicate this formula down to C14.

Step 4: Now add the chemical Perchloric Acid, which has a Ph value of 1 to the bottom of your list.

Step 5: Sort the list so the chemicals are in alphabetical order.

Step 6: Use Conditional Formatting to put the text “Acid” in column C in red, the text “Neutral” in green and the text “Alkaline” in Blue.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.2 - Council Tax Step 1: Open the spreadsheet CouncilTax.xls. Here is a list of properties and their values. The government is re-banding properties based on their value.

Convert this table into a lookup table in the range of cells F4:G9 and name this range bands.

Step 3: Use the range bands in a VLOOKUP formula in cell D4 to calculate the price band of the semi-detached house in Coventry (which should be in Band B).

Step 4: Use fill down to replicate this formula so that the price band of each house is shown in the table.

Module 1 - Data Handling (Databases) DH 1.3 - Database Structure For the database module exercises you will be putting together a school pupil database (if you have done the Intermediate ICT course you will already have done this and still have the correct database file you can skip to section 2.3).

The first task is to create a table to store pupil information and populate that table with data from a spreadsheet.

Step 1:

Create a new database called pupils.mdb in Microsoft Access.

Step 2:

Create a new table in Design View with four fields as shown in the table below. It is important that you type the field names accurately otherwise you will encounter difficulties later on. Note that the screenshot below shows the table in Design View.

Step 3:

Set Roll Number as the key field and save the table with the name T_PupilData.

Step 4:

The T_PupilData table needs some data. Import the data stored in the file pupils.xls. This file has column headings that correspond to the T_PupilData field names. If the import fails then check the accuracy of your field names. There should be 209 records.

Step 5:

Look at the table T_PupilData in Datasheet View. The pupil A. Kirk (Roll number 7074) has left the school. Find her in the list and delete her record. Ensure that you now have 208 records.

Step 6:

A new pupil D. Bobbins arrives at the school. Add this pupil who has the roll number 8812 and is in tutor group 9W. Your number of records should now be 209 again.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.4 - Basic Queries Step 1:

Open the T_PupilData table in spreadsheet view and re-arrange the data so that the pupils are listed in ascending alphabetical order on surname.

Step 2:

Use Filter By Selection to view just the pupils in class 9C. Check that you have 16 records staring with Barnes and ending with Vowles.

Step 3:

Change this into a Filter by Form and save this as a query called Q_9C. If you now look at the query in design view it should look like this:

Step 4:

For a particular production of Macbeth the Head of Drama requires the surname and initials of any student in 9M or in 9D. Make a query that will list these students in ascending order of surname and save it as Q_Drama. Check when you run this query that there are 48 records, that they are only in 9M and 9D and that they are listed in alphabetical order on surname.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.5 - Update Queries The form tutor of 9H (Mrs Hatton) leaves and it is decided to rename the class 9V as their new tutor is Dr Vasson.

Step 1:

Write an update query which moves all those in form 9H to the form 9V.

Step 2:

Save this query as â&#x20AC;&#x153;Q_9Hto9V and run it.

Step 2:

Look at the T_PupilData data table and ensure that this has happened.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.6 - Delete Queries In an earlier module you learnt how to delete records from a table. However, in practice we do not want the users of the database looking at the tables directly, so we use a Delete Query.

Step 1:

Write a query based on the table T_PupilData.

Step 2:

Make this a delete query which takes a user input of a pupilâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Roll Number.

Step 3:

Save this query as Q_DelStudent.

Step 3:

Run your delete query, input the student whose Roll Number is 7081 and make sure he has been deleted from the pupil data table.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.7 - Relationships You are now going to introduce a new table. Each student is in one and only one Tutor Group. Each Tutor Group has one (and only one) member of staff in charge and also has a room which is the Tutor Group base.

Step 1:

Create a new table called Tutor_Groups, which will look like this in datasheet view. You will of course design this in Design View. The field names are at the top of each column of data and the key field is Tutor Group.

Step 2:

Create a one-to-many relationship between the tables T_PupilData and Tutor_Groups.

You should enforce referential integrity between the two tables and check the relationships look like this:

Step 3:

Generate a new query called QTutorGroups, which lists all studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; surnames, initials, tutor groups, and form rooms. The data should be sorted alphabetically by tutor group and then by surname.

Use the Create Form by Using Wizard option to create a form where new pupils can be entered into the system manually. All the fields from the table T_PupilData should be on the form. Save this form with the name F_PupilData.

Step 2:

Now add a title (label box) to the form say, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Pupil Data Entry Screenâ&#x20AC;? in red.

Step 3:

Add a close form button and your form should now look like this:

Step 4:

Re-arrange the screen so that the data is in a more logical order for users looking at the data.

This could be with initials and surname at the top and tutor group, roll number and house below those. You should also re-size the data and text windows so that they are a more sensible size for the data they will contain.

Step 5:

Finally, change the tab order so that the fields are selected in order:

Now check the tab order by adding the new pupil number 8647 called Jane McTavish. She is in tutor group 9D.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) DH 1.9 - Tutor Group Reports You are now going to create form lists for the Head of Year, one class on each page. The reports will look similar to the one below:

Step 1:

Use the create report by using wizard to create a report based on the query Q_TutorGroups.

Step 2:

Group the data by Tutor Group and list the pupils within their tutor group alphabetically descending by surname.

Step 3:

Use the in-built columnar â&#x20AC;&#x201C; corporate layout style and save the report as R_TutorGroupLists.

Step 4:

You will have to do some tidying up in order to get the report to look like the one shown at the start of this exercise. Below is a screen shot of the report in design view, so that you can see the section headings and footers required. Note that:

There is no text in the report heading.

A page footer with a new page control (in the toolbox) has been added

Some filed names have been moved into headers

Consistent fonts and type size/colours have been used.

Module 3 - Word Processing 3.1. Kings of England (document basic layout) Step 1:

Open the document kings.doc.

Step 2:

Set the Normal style so that the font is regular, Bookman Old Style and 12pt, with a paragraph after spacing of 6pt. Apply this style to the text of the whole document.

Step 3:

Set the Heading1 style so that it is Bookman Old Style, bold, 12pt and so that the paragraph spacing before is 6pt and paragraph spacing after is 6pt. This should be numbered using outline numbering so the headings are numbered 1, 2, 3 etc.

Step 4:

Find the sections for each kings and put the name of the King at the beginning of each section in the style Heading1. Do the same for the Introduction and the Bibliography and Website listings at the end.

Step 5:

Now modify the style Heading2 so that it is in Bookman Old Style, bold, 12pt font. The paragraph spacing before should be 6pt and the spacing after 6pt as well. This style should also have outline numbering so that subheadings are numbered as 1.1, 1.2 etc.

Step 6:

Find the subheadings of each king’s section and put these in the style Heading2.

Step 7:

Now create two new pages at the beginning of the document and on page two insert a Contents page. The contents page should show level 1 and level 2 headings only. You can give this page the title “Contents” and put it in the style Heading 1.

Step 8:

On the first page put the text “Yorkist Kings of England” in style Title - which you should customise the same as Heading11 except the font size should be 18pt, alignment centred and numbering turned off.

Step 9:

Format using basic bullet points the list on page 9. There are 5 elements in the list.

Step 10: Put your name as a header at the top right of the page.

Step 11: Put the page number at the bottom of the page in the format “Page x of xx”. Centre this at the bottom of each page.

Step 12: This document is to be handed in and the teacher requires a left hand margin of 2cm and a right hand margin of 4cm. The latter will give space for her to write comments. Set the page so the margins are as required.

Step 13: Use Page Setup to put a double solid line border round the edge of the first page only and take any headers and footers off this page.

Step 14: Save your document.

Change the style Title so it is based on the style Heading1 and thus inherits the same settings. Then make your changes.

Open your document kings.doc again.

Step 2:

Open the kings_index.doc document. You will be using this to create an automatic index.

Now add the key words: “war” and “king”. These will also have the possibility of starting with a capital letter so you will need 4 entries ion the table.

Step 3:

Create a new page at the back of your document and give it the title “Index”. This should be in the style Heading1.

Step 4:

Automatically add an index using the kings_index.doc file you amended earlier. Use the “bulleted” style for your index.

Step 5:

Remember to update your contents page at the front so that the index is now listed.

Step 6:

Now look at the index. You will see that “prince” is listed both with a capital letter and without. Turn on the hidden characters and edit the entries where “Princes” are listed and change them so they are listed under the entry “princes”. When you update your index the “Princes” entry should have disappeared.

Step 7:

Now look at the entry Edward. Clearly there are too many entries so edit the entries and create sub-indices for Edward IV and Edward V.

Step 8:

Where entries in an index or sub-index span a range of pages then change them so that the range is listed not the individual pages.

Step 9:

Save your document.

Open your document kings.doc again.

Step 2:

At the beginning of the document the introduction mentions a chart. This chart is stored in the document reigns.xls. Insert, using object embedding, the bar chart and resize it so that it fits across the page.

Step 3:

Now create a new page just before the bibliography and add a title called â&#x20AC;&#x153;Lineage of Yorkist Kings of Englandâ&#x20AC;?. Format this title as Heading1.

Step 4:

Now the image lineage.jpg would fit better on a landscape page so change just this new page to landscape and insert the image. Make sure the headers and footers are consistent and the picture is centred.

Step 5:

Now save your document.

Move to the Bibliography and add bookmarks for both books so they are referenced from their listings within the text.

Step 2:

Create a new “historic” dictionary and make it the default.

Step 3:

Now add specific historic terms such as “Yorkist” and the names of important towns to this new dictionary so that your document gets spell checked.

Step 4:

Save your document.

Open your document wordsworth.doc.

Step 2:

Insert a section break (continuous) after the title and centre the title.

Step 3:

Add line numbers to the section after the title. There should be 24.

Step 4:

Put a space of 3pt after each line of the poem.

Step 5:

Change the space after of lines 6, 12, 18 and 24 to 18pt so it is clear where each stanza begins and ends. You may find the format painter useful for this.

Step 6:

Save your document and check it looks like the screenshot below.

Open the document languages.doc.

Step 2:

Set up a mail merge using this as the standard document and yr9.xls as the data source.

Step 3:

Only classes 9C and 9D are going on the trip so filter the data so that the letter is sent to just to parents of those students.

Step 4:

Insert mail merge fields into the document as shown below.

Step 5:

Complete the mail merge by printing to a pdf writer. This should produce a pdf file with 42 pages (one for each of the students).

Open the document language.doc again

Step 2:

Replace the text son/daughter in the letter with the “IF … THEN …ELSE” Word field so that the if the gender is “m” the letter will read “son” otherwise it will read “daughter”.

Step 3:

Now insert the date at the top of the letter using the date field and format it as shown below.

Step 4:

Merge the document and check that the date is on each letter and that step 2 is working correctly.

Step 5:

Save your document.

Module 4 - Web Design (1) Tips before your start Copy the Web Design folder from the public documents area. In this folder you will find the files and folders you will need to complete the exercises in this module.

Remember to open any files you are working on in both Notepad and Internet Explorer. To open in Notepad use right click and then select Open With… - you may need to select Notepad from the list of programs but do not check the box which makes this the default program. You can make alterations to the html code in this view.

Use left click to open html files in Internet Explorer. Also remember when you make changes to save the html file in Notepad and use f5 to refresh the IE view of the page. This view is what the page will look like on the web.

All your html tags and attributes should be in lowercase as this is the latest convention for xhtml.

WD 4.1 - Basics Let’s start with the home page of the web site (default.html) Step 1:

Open the file default.html in Notepad (for editing) and Internet Explorer (for viewing). You will note there is some extra information at the top of this document. This tells the web browser what version of xhtml you are using.

Step 3:

Between the <title> tags give your web browser a title which is “xxx - Home Page” where “xxx” is your name. Now save this file, switch to Internet Explorer, press F5 (to refresh IE) and make sure that your name appears on the blue bar at the top of the IE window.

Step 4:

Now put the <body> tags2 in the correct place and give your first page the welcoming message. Use appropriate text which tells the reader whose site it is and what course you are doing.

Step 5:

Finally save this as default.html.

Step 1:

Now open the file mountains.html file in Notepad and in Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

Choose and set (by using the correct attributes within the <body> tag) suitable colours for the text and for the background. Use hexadecimal codes for both of your chosen colours.

Step 3:

Now use the <font> tag to specify the style and size of the text on your web page. Give the browser the option of two types of font face and set the text size to 10pt using the size attribute.

Step 4:

Save this file and view it in IE to make sure it looks like the screenshot below.

Step 1:

Open your file mountains.html file again in Notepad and Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

Choose the correct heading tag to put the text “Geography Quiz” into 12pt. Also centre this heading using the <center> tag.

Step 3:

Choose the correct heading tag to put the text “Countries” and “Mountains” into 10pt. These should not be centred.

Step 4:

There is a list of mountains and a list of countries. You should use two ordered lists so that the finished page looks like the one below. You will need the <ol>and </ol> and <li> </li> tags - don’t forget to close all your tags in the correct place.3

Step 5:

Finish the page off with a horizontal rule after the main title “Geography Quiz” which is 50% of the page width4, is the same colour as the text and is 2 pixels thick.

Step 6:

Save this file and view it in IE to make sure it looks like the screenshot below.

3 It is suggested that you put the <li> and </li> tags in first - use copy and paste to provide as many pairs as there are elements in the list. Then copy and paste the correct text between the tags. This way you will save a lot of typing!

Step 1:

Now look in the Languages folder and open your file frenchqz.html in Notepad and Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

Use the <ol> and <li> tags to create a multiple choice page as shown below. You will need to “nest” your ordered lists one inside the other to achieve this effect! Again don’t forget to close your tags.5

Step 3:

Save this file and view your results in IE. It should look like the screenshot below.

You may find the Internet Explorer allows you to forget the closing tags, however other web browsers will not be so forgiving!!

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) WD 4.5 – Bookmark links Step 1:

Open the file instruments.html in Notepad and in Internet Explorer. Note that at the top of the page the sections of the orchestra are stated. In Notepad you may also note the use of &#124 to put the vertical bar between each section - this is a very useful feature on many websites.

Step 2:

Now add a link from Brass at the top of the page. You should use the “href” attribute in an anchor (<a>) tag and give it the name #brass. Link this to the heading Brass further down the page.

Step 3:

Add a link back to the top of the page from the heading Brass. Use the name #top for this.

Step 4:

Add three more links (known as bookmarks) to your webpage so that the other sections of the orchestra can be navigated to in the same way. Use the names #strings, #percussion and #woodwind.

Step 5:

These links should all navigate back to the top of the page.

Step 6:

When you have finished you can test this but may need to make your browser window smaller to that the text doesn’t fit onto the page vertically.

Step 7:

Save your instruments.html file and refresh IE to make sure it looks like the screenshot below.

IAM Certificate in ICT (online) WD 4.6 – Dividing documents, links and images Step 1:

Open the default.html file again in Notepad and Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

Put the welcome text you typed in earlier in-between <h4> tags.

Step 3:

After this welcoming message put in a horizontal rule across the page.

Step 4:

After the horizontal rule put an <h5> heading “Links” on your page.

Step 5:

Now create a list of links to each of the pages you have already created. You should use the <ul> </ul> tags to create the list (choose any type of bullet symbol) and use the anchor <a> tag and href attribute. You should include a link to default.html as the home page, as well as to mountains.html, frenchqz.html and instruments.html - four links in all. Put in some sensible text to make the link e.g. “Home Pages”, “French Quiz”.

Step 6:

After these links put in another full width horizontal rule and then the name of your school/college within <h5> tags.

Step 7:

After this put in a link to the home page of your school/college’s website. This link should open the home page of the web site in a new browser.

Step 8:

Now find a picture of your school or your school crest and add it into your web page. Use the width attribute to make sure the image is less than 400 pixels. You should also check that the image width you set does not make the image any larger than it is normally. The picture of the crest should be stored in the images folder.

Step 9:

Use the <blockquote> tag to add your school’s motto after your image.

Step 10: Divide the web page into 3 sections using <div> tags and name them using the id attribute as “heading”, “links” and “content”. After dividing the page the only difference you will notice is that the sections of text appear closer together..

Step 12: Save the file as default.html and view it in IE. It should look like the screenshot below.

Module 4 - Web Design (2) Note: It is important that you now copy all the files you had in the section 1 folder into the folder called section 2. Do not delete them from section 1.

WD 4.7 – Contextual Styles Step 1:

Open the file mountains.html file in the Section 2 folder.

Step 2:

Create a new folder in section 2 called “Styles”. In this folder create a new file called m_style.css and link this to the web page mountains.html.

Step 3:

Remove the in-line styles in mountains.html and re-write them as contextual styles in the m_style.css file.

Step 3:

By altering the style sheet make all selectors from <h1> through to <h4> uppercase and centred.

Step 4:

Now divide your two lists using the <div> tags. Name the first list “mountains” and the second list “countries”.

Step 5:

By using contextual styles set the text in the “mountains” division to “red” and the text in “countries” division to “green” You may wish to alter your background and text colour so that this does not clash with your colour scheme.

Step 6:

You should now remove the in-line style of the numbering and define this style in the css file. Use, for example, #mountains ol {….} to set the list style for the “mountains” division and a similar statement for the “countries” division.6 You can check that this is working by swapping the numbering styles around so that mountains are numbered and the countries and lettered - but remember to swap them back.

Step 7:

Save the mountains.html and check in IE that your page looks like the screenshot below.

From the Section 2 folder, open your default.html in Notepad and Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

Create a new file called h_style.css in the styles subfolder of section 2 and open it in Notepad. Refer the default.html file to this style sheet.

Step 3:

You should now define the colour of your links in the h_style.css. Remember that links can have four “states” so you will need to have colours and perhaps even text backgrounds for each one.

Step 4:

Divide the page into 3 divisions called “heading”, “links” and “content” and remove the horizontal rules.

Step 5:

In the links section add some text about each page after each link to remind yourself what the page is about. Add the class “L1” to your style sheet. This should set the colour of the text in the class to “green”. Use this class in your default.html page so that the text in any unordered list becomes green. You will note that the links don’t change colour because they have already been set in step 3.

Step 7:

Save your default.html and check in IE that it looks similar to the screenshot below.

Module 4 - Web Design (3) WD 4.10 – Absolute positioning Step 1:

Open the file mountains.html in Internet Explorer and the style sheet mstyle.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

We are now going to deal with the two lists. It doesn’t make much sense having them one underneath the other. Edit the m_style.css file. So that you are using absolute positioning to put the lists in the right place: 1.

Set the positioning of “countries” and “mountains” to “absolute”

2.

The border to “solid” and “1 pixel” wide

3.

Set the height of each division to “300px” and the width to “200px”. and finally

4.

Set the top of each division at 100 pixels

You can do this for both divisions together.

Step 3:

Now set the “mountains” division to be inset 100 pixels from the left.

Step 4:

Set the “countries” division to be inset 400 pixels from the left.

Step 5:

Save the mountains.html and m_style.css files and check your webpage is like the screenshot below.

Make a copy of the m_style.css file and call it m_style_rel.css. Keep both files in the styles folder of section 2 and check that the mountains.html in section 2 refers to the new style sheet.

Step 2:

Edit the m_style_rel.css file and change the “mountains” and “countries” divisions so that their positioning is relative.

Step 3:

You will see that the information is not properly aligned anymore. Change the position values so that the data is in the correct place.

Step 4:

Once you are happy change mountains.html so that it again refers to m_style.css and save the m_style_rel.css file.

Open the default.html and h_style.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

Alter style.css to size and position the three divisions. Use absolute positioning and put a 1px solid border around them so you can see where they are. The following are the values you should use: a)

#heading - width is 800 pixels and height 100 pixels. Position is 10 pixels from the top and 50 pixels from the left

b)

#links - width is 200 pixels and height 300 pixels. Position is 120 pixels from the top and 10 pixels from the left.

c)

#content - width is 580px. Position is 120 pixels from the top and 230 pixels from the left.

Step 3:

Now “float” the school crest (or picture) to the left so that the school motto (or your text about the school) is on the right as shown.

Step 4:

Now centre the text you put in the <blockquote> tags by altering the style sheet.

Step 5:

Save both the style sheet and the html files and check your work looks like the screenshot below.

Open the default.html and h_style.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

Create a class called “title” in the style sheet.

Step 3:

The class “title” should make the text white, in capitals, centred, on a navy background which covers 50% of the width of the division and has letter-spacing set to 0.02em.7

Step 4:

Replace the <h5> tags in the links and contents divisions to <p> tags and then use the “title” class to stylise the title text in each section.

Step 5:

Apply this to the content division as shown below.

Open default.html and h_style.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

In the heading division make 3 sub-divisions using the <div> tag. Give them the name b1, b2 and b3.

Step 3:

In the style sheet, make the positions of these divisions absolute (remember they will be “absolute” but “relative” to the heading division).

Step 4:

Give the sub-divisions the following attributes:

b1 - background colour is black, height is 50 pixels and width is15 pixels. This should be positioned 25 pixels from the top and 10 pixels from the left of the “heading” division.

b2 – background colour is #0000ff, height is 50 pixels and width is15 pixels. This should be positioned 35 pixels from the top and 15 pixels from the left of the “heading” division.

•

b3 – background colour is #0088ff, height is 10 pixels and width is50 pixels. This should be positioned 40 pixels from the top and 5 pixels from the left of the “heading” division.

You should now order the rectangles as shown in the screenshot below - the dark blue is at the front, the light blue just behind and the black furthest away.

Module 4 - Web Design (4) WD 4.15- Controlling images Step 1:

Open default.html and h_style.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

Sub-divide the “content” division of the web page using the <div> tags. You should have a division for (i) details of the school web site, (ii) the school crest/picture and some text and (iii) another two sub-divisions containing text and an image.

Step 3:

Use a class called “news” to ensure consistent format for each sub-division and create two img classes called “img.left” and “img.right” so that images can be floated to the left and right.

Step 4:

Use the classes you have just created to format the “content” division. The school crest/picture will still be on the left, the next image should float to the right and the last image will float to the left (as below).

Step 5:

Set the subheadings which start each “news” class as <h5> and make sure your paragraphs start with the <p> and end with the </p> tags.

Step 6:

Finally set the “padding”8 in the your “news” class so that the text is moved away from the border. Use left, right and bottom padding of 0.3cm.

Step 7:

Save your work and check your webpage looks like the one below.

Open default.html and h_style.css in Notepad.

Step 2:

Change the background of the body so that it the colour #49B3FF (which is a light blue).

Step 3:

Change the background image of the three main divisions (not the whole background image) so that the image cool_til.gif is repeated.

Step 4:

Create a new class called “tick” to replace the bullet points in the links division so that they use the image tick.gif. Set each <li> to be of this class.

Step 5:

Use the margin-right and margin-bottom attributes in the .tick class to put a 0.2cm clearance on the right and a 0.3cm clearance at the bottom of the each bullet.

Step 6:

Save your work and check it looks like the screenshot below.

Open the file camera.html in both Notepad and IE.

Step 2:

Format the main heading using the <h3> and </h3> tags.

Step 3:

Format the subheading using the <h5> and </h5> tags.

Step 4:

Insert the <table> and </table> tags so that the information is enclosed in a table.

Step 5:

Use <th> and </th> tags to put the table headings in.

Step 6:

Use <tr> , </tr>and <td>, </td> tags to put the information into a table. To get your table looking like the one below you will need to use the rowspan and colspan features.

Step 7:

Create and include a cstyle.css file in the styles folder and link it to the html file. Use the style sheet to put:

your table headings in the colour red,

the last three rows in italics (hint: use a class to do this), and
