FISCAL YEAR 21/22 IMPACT REPORT
1 INTRODUCTION.
Now, more than ever, we must leverage the power of play to promote parental mental health and child development.
-UNICEF Office of Research
Dear Friends,
Fiscal Year 21/22 was full of transformation and growth at Marbles. Our visitation bounced back, we resumed in-person events, opened new exhibits and re-launched important community access initiatives. We leaned into our unique role of serving families ready to reignite their spirit of playfulness.
Marbles also experienced a leadership transition, as founding CEO Sally Edwards stepped down after 15 years of monumental impact and dedication. Sally, the Marbles Board and the incredible team guided Marbles to a position of strength and momentum, with many exciting opportunities on the horizon.
Please enjoy this Impact Report from Fiscal Year 21/22 – a year that reminded us to never underestimate the power of play. After all…
PLAY is how children learn best.
PLAY fosters relationships.
PLAY ignites joy.
Marbles’ accomplishments are only made possible with your support – our community of donors, partners, members, guests, volunteers, and teammates. Thank you!
Jonathan Frederick, CEO Julie Paul, Board Chair
2INTRODUCTION.
PLAY is how children learn best
Throughout Fiscal Year 21/22, Marbles delivered a continuum of play-based learning programs designed to bolster children’s academic success and mitigate learning loss. Marbles is proud to work with Wake County Public Schools, Wake County Public Libraries and dozens of nonprofit partners to support families in our community with safe, enriching play and learning.

PLAY fosters relationships
In September 2021, Marbles opened imagiFAB, a collaborative maker space that transformed the 2nd floor of the museum. imagiFAB is an inclusive and open space where families play side-by-side as they make, create, build and animate.

PLAY ignites joy
As we continued bouncing back from pandemic losses, Marbles was able to re-launch and expand programming designed to reach kids of all backgrounds and abilities, including Sensory Friendly Playtime. Throughout the year, more than 1,650 kids with disabilities and their families played joyfully in a calm, quiet museum environment. Sensory Friendly Playtime is one offering within Marbles’ suite of access initiatives that served more than 45,000 individuals last year.
