Mount Angel Abbey One Abbey Dr., Saint Benedict 503-845-3030 • mountangelabbey.org Accessible to the public during daylight hours. Mount Angel takes its name from Engelberg, Switzerland – the homeland of the Benedictine monks that settled on a nearby butte in the 1880s. The monks have operated a monastery and seminary ever since. The campus has a church, coffee/gift shop, a retreat center, and – more recently – a brewery (with a tap room to open soon).

Copperglance
12390 Sunnyview Rd. N.E., Salem • 503-873-3406 • geercrest.org See website for events calendar. Founded by Oregon Trail pioneers Ralph & Mary Geer in 1848, this rare historic site serves as an active homestead practicing agrarian culture for schools and families to experience. There are monthly farm dinners, overnight and camping opportunities, and events throughout the year – and lots of goats. One particularly unique relic is a little bit of “graffiti” on the 1851 farmhouse by Ralph & Mary’s grandson, world-famous political cartoonist Homer Davenport.
