Jeremy began his seafaring career in 1979 with “Bank Line” where he qualified as a 2nd Mate after four years of global trading on “tween deck” general cargo vessels (including calls at Red Hook, Brooklyn), and studies at South Shields Marine & Technical College. Being at sea taught him many valuable life lessons and gave him a broader understanding of the maritime industry. He then completed a BSc in Maritime Commerce at Cardiff University and subsequently, an MBA at Warwick University.
He joined the P&O Group at the Port of Felixstowe, and then P&O Containers in London and Singapore. Following the company’s merger with Nedlloyd in 1996, he moved to Hong Kong and then to the USA in 1998. There he was based out of their NA regional headquarters in East Rutherford, NJ. Four years later, Jeremy moved back to London. In 2006, he joined Maersk’s global headquarters in Copenhagen after their acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd. After serving two years with Maersk, Jeremy moved back to London in 2008 to head up NYK Group’s container business in Europe and Africa. He was then transferred to Singapore in 2010 to establish NYK’s new global liner head office. This later led to the initiation and creation of Ocean Network Express (ONE), through the consolidation of K Line, NYK and MOL’s container shipping businesses in 2018. Today ONE is a major global container shipping company, with a balance sheet of USD 30 Bn and is active in 140 countries in the world.
Working with a team of highly professional and experienced staff, Jeremy regularly reminds his colleagues that ONE should be “big enough to survive but still small enough to care.”
Jeremy has always had a strong passion for anything related to maritime and shipping. As CEO of ONE, Jeremy has contributed to a number of cross industry initiatives related to sustainability, safety and crew welfare. Jeremy is also Co-Chair of the World Shipping Council (WSC). Additionally, he led the company through the global pandemic, ensuring that ONE’s operations remained fully functional while also keeping employee’s welfare fully in mind.
His wife Tina lives with him in Singapore, and their daughter Natasha, who was born in New York, is in her final year of study at Edinburgh University in the UK.
