The City mayor announced the introduction of Siyaqhuba Friday when he revealed his administration’s 100-day programme. “we are driving ‘Pro-poor’ agenda and we have no choice but to hit the ground running. “During campaigning for the elections our people raised a number of issues with us. Among these was the fact that after the election politicians tend to disappear yet they, as communities, face service deliv-
ery challenges. we must change that hence we have decided that we will be out there most of the time instead of the boardroom, so that we can have a sense of what the issues on the ground are and attend to them timeously.” he further announced that to improve the turnaround time to service delivery complaints, the city would be launching a smartphone app, with gPS navigation so that communities can just take a picture of the problem and send to the call centre for speedy resolution. As part of Siyaqhuba Friday, the mayor leads his mayoral committee, senior managers and technical staff to communities to address service delivery challenges. “we are calling on our people to freely engage us when we We are driving ‘Pro-poor’ visit them so that we have agenda and we have no choice a clear picture of what we are dealing with and how but to hit the ground running.” best we can handle that,” says Mayor Masina.

ThE gauteng Premier, David Makhura accompanied by MEC for Social Development, nandi Mayathula-Khoza honoured senior citizens for their contribution to society by hosting a lunch at Change Bible Church in Katlehong. The elders came from all five regions in gauteng (Sedibeng, west Rand, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni) to enjoy themselves and were entertained by performance by Kholeka and the Tshwane Elderly Choir. The event on Friday, october 7, formed part of the international Day of older Persons, older Persons week and Social Development Month. “older persons, even in their twilight years continue to contribute immensely to society. They look after children after their parents died due to hiV and AiDS, sometimes without any financial support. it is such contribution that the Premier will express his gratitude for,” said MEC Mayathula-Khoza. Premier David Makhura told the guests that he came to the church not to address them, but to enjoy the presence of the Almighty like everyone who attends any religious service. “The real reason we gathered here is to thank the senior citizens of this Province. There would be no Democracy in South Africa if it wasn’t for you. what we see and have today, we experience it because you sacrificed your lives to raise us; your children and grandchildren.” Makhura also launched the hotline for the elderly to communicate any problems and issues they face as a vulnerable group in society.
